Early look at Universal Orlando's Epic Universe's SUPER NINTENDO WORLD
Universal Orlando's Epic Universe park will include five new themed areas including SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. Here's an early look inside.
Universal Orlando's Epic Universe theme park opens to the public this May.
The park features five immersive lands: Celestial Park, Dark Universe, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and "How to Train Your Dragon" – Isle of Berk.
Epic Universe is located about 15 minutes away from Universal Orlando's existing parks.
Universal Orlando's highly anticipated fourth park is opening next month, filled with immersive experiences inspired by classic horror films, Nintendo video games, the "How to Train Your Dragon" movies and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
There are five new worlds for guests to explore at the theme park — Celestial Park, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.
Parkgoers absolutely do not need to be experts on each worlds' lore to enjoy the new park, but it doesn't hurt to catch up on the media that inspired the newest immersive experiences at Universal Orlando Resort.
Here's what to add to your watchlist ahead of Epic Universe's opening this month.
When in 2025 will Epic Universe open?
Epic Universe officially opens to the public on Thursday, May 22, 2025, ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
It will be at Universal's new south campus, about 15 minutes down the road from Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios and Universal Orlando's CityWalk dining, retail and entertainment complex.
Celestial Park
Out of the five new worlds at Epic Universe, Celestial Park is the only one not tied to existing intellectual property. No movies, TV shows, or video games are connected to the world.
It is located at the center of the theme park, serving as the gateway to the four other worlds, which are all accessed by themed portals. It houses several eateries and two rides — Stardust Racers and Constellation Carousel.
Universal Orlando describes the new world as a place where "wondrous discoveries await among the lush greenery, tree-lined walkways and dancing fountains."
"Begin your cosmic journey of discovery in a world between worlds, full of sensory delights for all to enjoy together," Universal writes.
Dark Universe
Described as a "shadowy world where the unknown lurks around every corner," Dark Universe takes classic Universal monsters off the screen and places them in real life. There are two rides — Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Curse of the Werewolf.
Universal says parkgoers will explore "a village ravaged by the wrath of unearthly creatures and the monstrous experiments of Dr. Victoria Frankenstein."
There are a lot of examples of remakes and reimaginings of the iconic monsters featured in Dark Universe.

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD features rides, dining and immersive attractions based on the Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong franchises. It features two specific lands — Super Mario Land and Donkey Kong Country.
In a press release last year, Universal described the new world as a 'multi-sensory environment where guests can experience the fun and adventure of Nintendo games in a whole new way."
The best way to prepare for the world is to refresh your skills for the Super Mario game series, especially the race tracks on Mario Kart.
As for movies, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" hit theaters in 2023 and is now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video or Amazon Prime Video with Ads. It's also available to rent or purchase on Apple TV, Google Play Movies, and Fandango At Home.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic
The new theme park brings the iconic Ministry of Magic, from the "Harry Potter" and "Fantastic Beasts" franchises, to life.
This new addition to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter takes parkgoers to 1920s Wizarding Paris. Fans of the franchise will recognize elements from the "Fantastic Beasts" movies.
After passing through this world's portal, guests will first journey from a Muggle park in Paris into Place Cachée – a hidden, bustling shopping district in the wizarding part of Paris, lined with Haussmannian buildings, shops, sidewalk cafés and historic Parisian domes rising in the distance.
There is only one ride in Epic Universe's Ministry of Magic — "Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry," a dark ride where guests travel by Métro-Floo, from 1920s Paris to the 1990s British Ministry of Magic.
All eight Harry Potter films — "Sorcerer's Stone" (2001), "Chamber of Secrets" (2002), "Prisoner of Azkaban" (2004), "Goblet of Fire" (2005), "Order of the Phoenix" (2007), "Half-Blood Prince" (2009), "Deathly Hallows Part 1" (2010), and "Deathly Hallows Part 2" (2011) — are now available to stream on Peacock and Max.
The "Fantastic Beasts" trilogy is also available to stream on Max.

Isle of Berk
Epic Universe also houses the mythical land from the popular 'How to Train Your Dragon' franchise – Isle of Berk. It's a Viking-sized village, set during the golden age of harmony between Vikings and dragons (think: between the second and third movie).

The Scott Pilgrim Game Is Getting A Spiritual Successor Over 15 Years Later And It Looks Awesome
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game was a 2010 downloadable movie tie-in that turned out to be an incredible beat 'em up, helping to lead an arcade gaming revival on console. Scott Pilgrim Ex is a spiritual successor to that project that's getting the band back together for another River City Ransom-esque smash-fest down memory lane when it comes to PC and consoles in 2026. The pitch is simple: run around the streets of Toronto as Scott, Ramona, and company beating up bad guys, completing quests, getting stronger, and trying to pick up every nearby object to see if it can be used as a lethal weapon against three rival factions consisting of Vegans, Robots, and Demons. There's up to four-player co-op online, and it sounds like a somewhat nonlinear story will allow players to explore a segmented map consisting of various streets, stores, and alleyways with a high degree of non-linear freedom. There will be seven playable characters, each with their full move lists unlocked from the start of the game, with an emphasis on combos and chucking everything from turnips to other enemies. The debut trailer at Summer Game Fest Live showed off a colorful urban playground full of slick combat animations. The backgrounds aren't bursting with quite the same level of detail and depth as those in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, though that may come closer to launch. You can judge for yourself: The original game was an incredible mashup of old-school inspirations, from exuberant pixel art to chip tune rock medleys, that paid tribute to a series of graphic novels about post-school slackers navigating social drama and paranormal supervillains using video game logic. It was also made by Ubisoft and remained trapped on old consoles until 2021 when the French publisher and Universal managed to untangle the licensing rights and port it to modern platforms. Some of the people who made the original Scott Pilgrim game, including its game play designer Jonathan Lavigne, left Ubisoft to found the indie retro powerhouse Tribute Games, best known for Mercenary Kings and, more recently, making Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge with Dotemu. In addition to Scott Pilgrim EX, it's also working on the Marvel arcade brawler Cosmic Invasion, coming out later this year. 'Scott Pilgrim EX is the culmination of years of experience working on brawlers combined with our intimate knowledge of Scott Pilgrim,' Lavigne said in a press release. 'It's a full-circle moment for us. The original founders of Tribute Games all worked on the first video game incarnation of Scott Pilgrim before launching the studio in 2011. Coming back to this world feels like the most natural thing ever. This game is about friendship, our love of video games, music, and hitting robots in the face with a volleyball. It's full of lore, references, easter eggs and passion. It's the Scott Pilgrim game fans have been waiting for.' In addition to retaining some of the talent from the first game, Tribute is reuniting with renowned pixel artist Paul Robertson and the 8-bit band Anamanaguchi. Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O'Malley will consult on a new original story in that universe along with Scott Pilgrim Takes Off showruner Ben David Grabinski (the Netflix series sadly didn't get renewed for a second season). The 'American Pie' star, 47, discussed his years-long fight with drugs and alcohol during a recent appearance on the 'Well with Arielle Lorre' podcast. What Format Should You Choose For How To Train Your Dragon 2025?
How To Train Your Dragon will be getting an HDR by Barco release for true HDR presentation but with ... More only a few capable screens worldwide IMAX and Dolby Cinema will be major quality choices. The How to Train Your Dragon franchise has been a great success story for director Dean DeBlois in the animated world, but taking a leaf out of Disney's playbook, it has now taken the leap into the realm of live action. It retains Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast, with Mason Thames as Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and Nico Parker as his love interest, Astrid Hofferson. Among the other cast members, we also get Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch, who was also recently announced as Hagrid in the upcoming TV remake of the Harry Potter franchise. Resembling to my eyes, a child-friendly version of House of the Dragon, the new How to Train Your Dragon is big, bold family entertainment, so it's no wonder that it is being released in a plethora of formats, so we'll run through them here to help you decide which one to choose. With a behind-the-scenes trailer IMAX to accompany it, DeBlois says that the film has been made 'specifically with IMAX in mind.' Captured using the Arri Alexa 35 and Arri Alexa LF IMAX, both of which are 'Filmed For IMAX' certified, for over 50 minutes of its runtime, the film will expand to the 190:1 aspect ratio in all IMAX screens. This is likely to be for the big action sequences. Note, though, that this isn't the full-fat IMAX experience that you'll get with films shot with IMAX film cameras with 1.43:1 aspect ratio sequences, but there's no doubt that the flying sequences will be impressive on the extra-large IMAX screens. Also, note that not all IMAX screens are equal. The best ones will use laser projectors for a brighter picture, and most of these will also have 12-channel sound, which does better with overhead effects for more immersiveness. The movie will also get an IMAX 3D release, but my local cinema only has two showings in this format, so you'll have to hunt for this if you're a fan of stereoscopy. Sadly, I found IMAX 3D to be disappointing for the recent Marvel Thunderbolts movie, but technologies such as TrueCut Motion can help with motion blur and perceived brightness, so unless it's confirmed that this tech has been used for this release, I wouldn't recommend 3D in this case. What can be confirmed is that it has had an HDR by Barco grade —the projection technology that makes full use of the dynamic range that the digital cameras used are capable of capturing. As such, this will be the top choice for image quality. Sadly, the projectors are only available in six screens worldwide, and not all of them are showing the movie on their HDR-capable screens. This includes Cineworld London Leicester Square, which is instead showing the new Ballerina movie (which does have an HDR by Barco grade at least) and Mission: The Final Reckoning, which is top draw but doesn't have an HDR grade. At least you'll get more consistency if you choose to see it at a Dolby Cinema. Having seen the trailer in this format at the Dolby screening room in its London HQ (more on this coming soon), I can attest that the intense colors from the greenery and the dragon flames make it a delight for the eyes, while the Dolby Atmos audio is a great match for the swirling flight scenes. If you can't get to IMAX or Dolby screen but still want a large image and great audio, then seek out a premium large-format screen. Every chain has its own branding for these, so look out for Cinemark XD, Cineplex UltraAVX, Xtreme Xscape, Prime at AMC, Regal RPX, and in the UK, Odeon iSense and Cineworld Superscreen. These will all give you 4K laser projection, Dolby Atmos, and decent seats, so it's worth the extra. If you want something really fun, though, consider 4DX, which, for How to Train Your Dragon, is combined with 3D. As such, you might not mind the motion blur as you'll be being thrown around by the moving seats in time with the on-screen action, with rumblers in the seats will make you feel every crash landing, which to me sounds like a ton of fun. ScreenX is also available, which offers extra footage shown on screens that run down the sides of the auditorium. Save for Grand Turismo, where the side-screens were amazing for the cockpit scenes, I've yet to be convinced by ScreenX—though I could see how it could all to the immersiveness of the flying scenes. Aside from this, there's regular RealD 3D in standard screens, but there's a danger it will be an aging Xenon bulb, which could hurt the experience by delivering a dim picture. Personally, you know there's a laser projector in play in your particular chosen screen; if you're not going to choose one of the above formats, I'd avoid it and stick with regular 2D. But with so many other, much more exciting ways of seeing How to Train Your Dragon, it would seem a shame not to take advantage and jump aboard one of them.
