Cooper DeJean lands ahead of Quinyon Mitchell in a ranking of the NFL's top 32 cornerbacks

Cooper DeJean lands ahead of Quinyon Mitchell in a ranking of the NFL's top 32 cornerbacks Cooper DeJean landed outside the top ten and Quinyon Mitchell was listed at No. 16 in the Pro Football Focus cornerback rankings for 2025 After losing six of their final seven games to end the 2023 season, Philadelphia placed a renewed focus on revamping the secondary. In 2024, the Eagles bounced back hugely, winning Super Bowl 59 in a rematch with the Chiefs. Two of the most significant factors in the rebound were Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Philadelphia's first two picks in the 2024 NFL draft had first-round grades. Still, Howie Roseman hit the jackpot when DeJean slid down draft boards, and Philadelphia traded up in the second round to secure the former Iowa star. The Birds were 2-2 coming out of the bye week, but lost just one more time after DeJean entered the lineup following the Week 5 bye. Pro Football Focus revealed their top 32 cornerbacks in the NFL for 2025, and the Eagles' two defensive gems were selected way earlier, with DeJean leapfrogging Mitchell and landing just outside the top ten. DeJean was among the highest-rated players in the slot, holding opponents to 50 receptions. He had five pass breakups, and quarterbacks had an 82.2 passer rating against him. Mitchell ranked 3rd among NFL CBs with 16 forced incompletions, trailing only Zyon McCollum (17) and Denzel Ward (17). He was 3rd among CBs in yards allowed per coverage snap (0.8) behind Pat Surtain (0.6) and Derek Stingley (0.7) (min. 600 coverage snaps).

Liga MX Star Keen to Join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami

Liga MX Star Keen to Join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Lionel Messi and Inter Miami won their most recent game against the Columbus Crew 5-1. The Argentine scored twice during the match. Advertisement Apart from Messi, the Herons have other superstar players like Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets in their ranks. Inter Miami, however, haven't performed at their best level so far this season. They are third in the Eastern Conference with 29 points from 16 matches. Javier Mascherano is looking to bolster his team's ranks, and Liga MX star Brian Rodriguez has now emerged as an option for the MLS club. Rodriguez currently plays for Club America and the winger has scored 10 goals and set up nine more in 34 appearances across competitions this season. Rodriguez has now expressed his interest in joining Messi and other superstar names in Miami. Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi (10) looks on during the first half against Minnesota United at Allianz Hemmelgarn-Imagn Images The 25-year-old Uruguayan said: "Inter Miami's interest is real. We've been talking about it for a couple of weeks. I spoke with Luis Suárez about the club and it was an honor to talk to him." Advertisement Rodriguez added that he has a possible option to move to Spain but the opportunity to play alongside Lionel Messi might be too alluring for him. He added: "There is a possibility of going to Spain, I prefer to go to Spain, but on the other side is going to play with Suárez and Messi, that weighs on me. I'm also going to talk to Marcelo [Bielsa, Uruguay manager] to see what he thinks. I've already spoken to him before about a possible move to Fiorentina, he spoke to Fiorentina at the time." Rodriguez is well aware of the ins and outs of US Soccer, having previously played with LAFC. He made 65 appearances for the Los Angeles club, scoring nine times and providing 14 assists. The Urguayan's future is worth keeping an eye on. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 3, 2025, where it first appeared.

Sixers draft history: Joel Embiid selected No. 3 overall in 2014

Sixers draft history: Joel Embiid selected No. 3 overall in 2014 With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise's history. This edition moves ahead to the 2014 NBA draft as the Sixers were still looking for that centerpiece for their rebuild. With the No. 3 pick in the draft, Philadelphia found it in the form of Joel Embiid. Of course, it was a rocky start for Embiid as he did miss the first two years of his career due to foot injuries and then only played 31 games in his rookie season in 2016-17, but in those 31 games, he showed a glimpse of what the Sixers were getting. He averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.5 blocks in those games and finished third in Rookie of the Year voting. Since then, Embiid has morphed into a top 3 player in the game. He averages 27.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.6 blocks. He won the MVP award in the 2022-23 season when he averaged 33.1 points and he also has Philadelphia's single-game scoring record with 70 points in a win over the San Antonio Spurs in 2024. Embiid's career has been marred by injuries. He only played 19 games in the 2024-25 season, but when he is healthy, he is the most dominant player in the game. There aren't many players in the league who can slow him down and he is hoping to return to that stature in 2025-26.
