MURRYSVILLE, Pa. – Severe thunderstorms brought flash flooding to western Pennsylvania Friday, causing dozens of evacuations and multiple water rescues.
The brunt of the storms hit the town of Murrysville, east of Pittsburgh. A rain gauge near Murrysville reported 3 inches of rain in just two hours, with some storm totals exceeding 4 inches.
The heavy rains quickly overwhelmed parts of town.

About 95 people had to be evacuated due to flash flooding, Murrysville Medic One said in a Facebook post. Some of the rescued were set to graduate from high school that night.
The agency said flooding inundated roads and homes and left people stranded in vehicles.
In one rescue, teams saved two women trapped in a submerged car on a road.

The weekend is kicking off much like the work week has ended across much of the nation's heartland: with weather maps and radars dotted with clusters of strong thunderstorms and severe weather alerts. Saturday's severe weather threat covers around 65 million people across the southern Plains, Deep South and into the Southeast. Primary dangers include wind gusts of 60+ mph and very large to giant hail, but a few tornadoes are possible. A lightning strike hit a house in Southern California Tuesday, startling a mom and her two children who were standing just feet away. Tiffanie Buckner was recording the lightning as storms were rolling in, as she and her children were about to go inside, she told Storyful. Her 6-year-old daughter, Penelope, was standing in front of the camera the moment a large lightning bolt hit a home in the cul-de-sac behind her. A busy start to the hurricane season in the eastern Pacific Ocean got even busier Saturday morning as the National Hurricane Center has now added a third area to watch for possible tropical development. But in the short term, two clusters of thunderstorms are on the cusp of becoming the basin's next named storms, but which area of disturbed weather will take the name Barbara remains somewhat of an open question. Experts warn of cold water dangers during hot weather this weekend
As temperatures rise this weekend and early next week, jumping into bodies of water can be tempting. Sunday and Monday will be the hottest days in the Puget Sound area, ranging from the 80s to the low-90s, but experts advise people to swim with caution. Although it will be hot outside, the water will still be dangerously cold, according to a Friday news release from the National Weather Service's Seattle office. Surface-level water may seem warm, but the real risk lies deeper in the water, experts warn. This early in the year, bodies of water aren't necessarily warm enough to swim safely. 'We're still early in the season and waters are still running cold and fast and we've already had cold water-related fatalities this year,' the news release said. A Facebook post from East Pierce Fire & Rescue on Friday urged caution, because even experienced swimmers can lose muscle control. 'Chattering teeth, shivering, or blue lips when swimming?' the post said. 'Those are reminders to get out of the water and rewarm.' Those planning to enjoy the water this weekend should wear a life vest, the post said. After Monday, National Weather Service forecasters expect cooler weather.
