New Delhi, May 15 (PTI) GST Intelligence officers have busted an inter-state nexus by three business entities that were involved in fake billing and GST evasion of Rs 13.41 crore, the finance ministry said on Thursday.
This case has been unearthed due to the intra-organisational and inter-regional synergy between two offices, DGGI Lucknow in UP and DGGI Ludhiana in Punjab, the finance ministry said in a statement.
On May 15, DGGI Ludhiana arrested Raman Kumar Chaurasia and Devinder Singh for generation of fake bills leading to GST evasion of Rs 13.41 crore.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi HC has imposed a cost of Rs 50,000 on a litigant and her lawyer after finding that a writ petition concerning alleged unauthorised construction had been filed without the petitioner's signature, a glaring irregularity the Court viewed as a serious abuse of its process. The matter came to light during a hearing before Justice Mini Pushkarna, after counsel for the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) pointed out that the petition bore only the advocate's signature, not that of the named petitioner. The Delhi Development Authority's counsel further submitted that the mobile number and email address listed in the original complaint filed before the Special Task Force were also those of the advocate, not the Bench observed that the identical contact details in the complaint and petition suggested the entire legal action had been initiated by the advocate alone. 'On account of the glaring facts presented before this Court... this Court has taken a very serious view of the matter, where complaints against unauthorised construction are being filed by advocates themselves, and writ petition is being filed without the signatures of the purported litigant,' the Court remarked in its order dated May 30. Justice Pushkarna strongly criticised what appeared to be an emerging practice of lawyers filing complaints and petitions in their own names but presenting them as though they were acting on behalf of third parties, without proper authorisation or even the basic procedural safeguard of obtaining the client's signature. The MCD also informed the Court that appropriate action was already underway regarding the allegedly unauthorised construction in question. In a sharp rebuke, the Court dismissed the writ petition and directed that Rs 50,000 in costs be paid jointly by both the petitioner and her counsel to the Delhi HC Advocates Welfare Trust.

Wild elephants raid villages in Odisha's Rayagada; crops, houses destroyed
BERHAMPUR: A herd of 24 elephants which has been raiding villages in Bismakatak block of Rayagada district has left one family in complete distress. Narayan Huika (56) of Kumbharabadi village has borne the brunt of the depredation as his crop and house has fallen prey to the jumbos' ire. On Friday night, the herd entered the village and destroyed several houses and crops. Huika suffered huge loss as the herd completely destroyed his farmland along with banana plantation. He said that upon hearing the elephants arrive, his family left home and ran to safety. When they returned on Saturday morning, their house was destroyed and the stored paddy, rice and pulses were consumed by the herd. The elephants also devoured cash of Rs 80,000 kept in a millet bag. Locals said the elephants have reportedly come from the Nagligiri forest in Kalyansinghpur. The Forest department is keeping a close watch on their movement. Train speed in the area has been reduced to ensure the elephants' safety and prevent further incidents. Forest officials said the elephants are venturing into human habitation due to a food crisis caused by deforestation and climate change. Officials said the losses would be assessed and as per existing norms, the victims will be assisted.

Trinity's chariot parts to be auctioned at higher prices after Rath Yatra this year: SJTA
BHUBANESWAR: Devotees or organisations who wish to own a piece of the three chariots of the Trinity - Nandighosa, Debadalana and Taladhwaja - after the Rath Yatra will have to pay more this year. The prices have been significantly increased owing to the rising demand for the wooden wheels and decorative panels of the three chariots from devotees, organisations and industrial houses. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) recently released an expression of interest and prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) for allotment of the wheels, 'prabha', 'kona guja' and 'asuari' of the three chariots. The temple administration has fixed the offset (base) price for auction of each wheel of Lord Balabhadra's Taladhwaja at Rs 2 lakh, while it is Rs 1.5 lakh per wheel of Devi Subhadra's Debadalana and Rs 3 lakh per wheel of Lord Jagannath's Nandighosa. The base price for one wheel each of all the three chariots has been set at Rs 6 lakh. Similarly, while the price of 'prabha' of each chariot is Rs 25,000 each, that of both 'guja' and 'asuari' is Rs 15,000 each, this year. The cost of 'guja' and 'asuari' have also been increased by Rs 5,000 compared to last year.
