Dubai: Gold prices rise a day ahead of Eid Al Adha
Gold prices slightly rose at the opening of markets in Dubai on Thursday ahead of key US economic data. The Dubai Jewellery Group data showed 24-carat trading at Dh406 per gram on Thursday morning, up from Dh404.5 per gram at the close of the markets on Wednesday. Among the other precious metal variants, 22-carat, 21-carat and 18-carat opened higher at Dh376, Dh360.5 and Dh309 per gram, respectively. Many gold jewellers and analysts expect gold to maintain its appeal as a safe haven and stay above Dh400 per gram in the medium to long term due to strong demand from central banks, geopolitical tensions and tariffs row. Gold jewellers in Dubai are expecting an increase in sales during Eid Al Adha holidays, which will be celebrated in the UAE from Friday to Sunday. Spot gold was trading at $3,367.62 per ounce, down 0.22 per cent amidst ongoing global economic and political uncertainties, while looking ahead to US payroll data for further economic cues. Ole Hansen, head of commodity strategy at Saxo Bank, said technically, gold has now broken above the downtrend from its April 22 record high at $3,500, with that former resistance line now turning into support near $3,325. 'Additional layers of support are seen at $3,280 and the 55-day moving average at $3,223. While we remain cautious about declaring an imminent charge to fresh all-time highs, the macro setup is shifting in favour of precious metals,' said Hansen. 'A potent mix of post-stimulus fiscal drag, tariff-induced supply shocks, waning consumer confidence, a weakening labour market, and deteriorating real spending power may soon warrant a dovish and potentially stronger-than-expected policy pivot from the US Federal Reserve, potentially then sending bullion prices higher towards $4,000,' he added.

Ireland's food and drink exports to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region reached €546.9 million ($624m) in 2024, underlining the region's growing importance for the country's agri-food sector, according to Bord Bia – The Irish Food Board. The milestone was announced alongside findings from Bord Bia's second annual CEO Pulse Survey, which reflects the perspectives of Irish food and drink companies responsible for nearly €11bn ($12.5bn) in global exports—two-thirds of the nation's total export value. The survey revealed that 56 per cent of Irish food and drink exporters anticipate growth in the MENA region in 2025, despite ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges. Irish food exports to Middle East Exporters cited robust consumer demand, rising interest in sustainably sourced products, and deepening trade relationships as key drivers of optimism. Kieran Fitzgerald, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa at Bord Bia, said: 'Irish food and drink companies continue to see the Middle East and Africa as high-potential markets. 'The scale of export performance in 2024, paired with strong sentiment from exporters, highlights Ireland's growing reputation as a provider of trusted, high-quality food and drink solutions for the region.' A major contributor to this growth is Ornua, Ireland's largest dairy exporter, which continues to expand its presence in the region. David Butler, Managing Director, Ornua Ingredients International, said: 'The Middle East continues to represent a key growth market for Ornua, with rising demand for high-quality, innovative dairy solutions across the region. 'Our investment in Saudi Arabia underlines our long-term commitment to the region, enabling us to strengthen local partnerships, respond more quickly to customer needs, and deliver market-specific solutions. 'With its strategic location and strong trade ties, Saudi provides an ideal base from which to support our customers and expand our presence across the wider MENA market.'

ACWA Power's $1.9bln rights issue may include rump offering
Saudi utility giant ACWA Power's upcoming SAR 7.125 billion ($1.9 billion) rights issue may include a rump placement of unsubscribed shares to ensure the offering is fully subscribed. The Saudi-listed company announced on Wednesday the issuance of a preliminary prospectus for its plan to increase its capital via a rights issue, which is part of the company's strategy to consolidate its growth, including tripling its managed assets by 2030. If any of the shares remain unsubscribed, they will be offered to institutional investors and underwriters, according to the company's prospectus. The offering is meant to increase ACWA Power's capital from its current SAR 7.325 billion. The nominal value of the new ordinary shares to be issued is set at SAR 10 apiece. The offering is expected to commence three business days from the approval of the capital increase by the Extraordinary General Assembly, which is scheduled on June 30, 2025. Following the close of the initial subscription period, any remaining unsubscribed shares, referred to as 'rump shares', will be offered at no less than the offering price. Institutional investors can submit their offers, with allocation based on the highest bid. Any remaining rump shares will be offered to the underwriters, who will subscribe at the initial offering price on a pro-rata basis. SNB Capital, J.P. Morgan and Citigroup Saudi Arabia have been appointed as joint financial advisors for the rights issue. (Writing by Cleofe Maceda; editing by Seban Scaria)
