Terrorist moved to NHS unit with board games and film nights
A teenage terrorist who has stabbed 10 prison officers while in custody has been transferred to an NHS mental health unit that offers sports, games and film nights.
Nathan Ruth, 18, has been held at Feltham Young Offenders Institute, in west London, since he was jailed for seven years last year after being convicted of plotting an attack at the Isle of Wight Festival. The then 15-year-old had researched weapons, vehicles and stab vests.
Prison sources at Feltham have warned that staff at Ruth's new NHS mental health unit are not safe from the Muslim convert extremist, who tried to slice one guard's ear off and stabbed another with a makeshift weapon known as a shank.
An intelligence report on Ruth, leaked to the Daily Mail, revealed that he has a history of improvising weapons and attacking staff and intends to kill a prison officer.
Between his arrest in July 2022 and sentencing last April, Ruth, who was caught following a tip-off from the FBI, had already attacked prison personnel on 18 occasions.
However, he will now be able to take advantage of sports facilities, quizzes, arts and crafts and film nights after being moved to Bluebird House, a secure mental health facility in Hampshire.
The centre's website states that staff provide 'a friendly, welcoming and therapeutic environment for our young people'.
The unit's three wards care for up to 20 young people and include a relaxation room, sports hall, games room, fitness suite and all-weather sports area. Patients are provided with their own 'homely and comfortable' bedroom with an en-suite.
Its website said: 'During evenings and weekends, we plan activities such as sports, board games, quizzes, arts and crafts and film nights.'
According to the Mail, guards at Feltham have worn full riot gear when they deliver food to Ruth or allow him out to shower or exercise.
Prison officers said they were shocked at his move. 'He has stabbed so many officers while in Feltham, and openly boasts to staff that we will see him on the news one day,' a source told the Mail.
'We can't believe they have let him go. He has 100 per cent manipulated the system to get himself sent somewhere more comfortable. What really annoys staff is that he has received no further prison time for all the stabbings against staff.
'They just want to focus on his rehabilitation. Well, tell that to the officer who nearly lost an ear. He is a stone-cold psychopath, the scariest I have ever seen. He will not stop until he has killed someone. Staff at that place do not know what they are letting themselves in for.'
A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: 'Prisoners can be transferred for treatment in mental health hospitals, based on assessments by expert clinicians, but will return to prison once they are fit to do so. We do not tolerate violence against our hard-working staff and will always push for the strongest possible punishments for those who break the rules.'

The 37-year-old British singer took to Instagram on June 3 to reveal that she was diagnosed with early breast cancer prior to dropping her new song, 'No Secrets,' which was released on April 25. 'One, because selfishly I do not talk about it enough – I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard.' Jessie J goes on to describe herself as a 'sharer' and 'open book.' 'I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories,' she says in the video. She also highlighted the irony behind the timing of her two newest releases. She further clarified that the release of her two singles was 'pre-planned' before learning of the diagnosis. The breast cancer diagnosis comes less than one year after the singer revealed that she was diagnosed with ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) and OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Police probe ground, abandon buildings in search for Madeleine McCann
June 4 (UPI) -- German and Portuguese police Wednesday continued their search near the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal for Madeline McCann, the British child missing since 2007. The search efforts included using ground penetrating radar focused on some derelict structures a few miles from the site where Madeline went missing. German federal police requested the renewed search that began Tuesday as they seek evidence against the imprisoned prime suspect, Christian Bruckner. He is serving time for raping a 72-year-old woman near Praia da Luz in 2005. The search is scheduled to continue until Friday. Bruckner lived in one of the houses being searched when Madeline went missing. Roughly 30 officers are conducting the search using drones and a digger and well as the ground penetrating radar. The radar employs electromagnetic radiation pulsed into the ground to detect objects or changes beneath the surface, reducing the need to dig as much as other wise would be required. Bruckner has denied being involved in Madeleine's disappearance. He was officially identified as a suspect in 2022. The search is focused on 120 acres that include abandoned buildings between the Ocean Club resort where McCann and her family were staying and the house Bruckner lived in. Bruckner sometimes worked as a handyman at the Ocean Club. Madeleine disappeared May 3, 2007 after her parents left her sleeping in a room with her twin 2-year-old siblings. The last search before this was in 2023 near the Barragem do Arade reservoir roughly 30 miles from Praia da Luz. Bruckner is set to be released from prison in September unless further charges are filed.

French attempts to ‘stop the boats' are too little, too late
On paper, if I had to choose between the French police and our own Border Force to try and prevent people smugglers and illegal migrants crossing the Channel, I would choose the French police. Faced with the prospect of violent resistance, this paper reports that officials in Paris are debating whether officers 'should be armed and wearing body armour when they engage the boats'. Imagine the furore if that were suggested here. Sir Keir Starmer could certainly use some cavalry about now. But are les gendarmes really going to ride in and save the day? That feels like a long shot. Successive British governments have several times announced with great fanfare this or that arrangement with France, only for the small boats to just keep coming. We pay a lot for the privilege too. The latest tranche of spending, covering 2023 to 2025, was a cool €541 million (about £476 million when the deal was signed). It's not that the French pocket the cash and don't do anything – crossings would be even higher without their efforts. But 'even higher' is cold comfort to British politicians facing mounting public anger at a completely unacceptable level of crossings, especially when photos or footage appears of French officers standing idly by as a boat pushes off. But France does not have a huge incentive, beyond our cash, to keep these people in France rather than letting them set sail for their intended destination. Paris might also, and fairly, blame the UK's continual refusal to address the pull factors that attract people here – a poorly-policed black economy, for one – for creating a migration superhighway to their northern coast in the first place. Perhaps this move does represent a sea change (no pun intended). Having previously refused to engage boats at sea, France now says it will (although a lot depends on how they end up interpreting the need to 'respect the law of the sea'). One must pity the Conservatives, who struck several expensive deals with Paris, reading that in this latest deal our two governments have confirmed 'for the first time, the need for action to prevent irregular crossings of the Channel'. The first time! But when Emmanuel Macron's embattled government next faces down the Rassemblement National, is he really going to want Sir Keir Starmer boasting of his strenuous efforts to keep illegal migrants in France, all for the benefit of Les Rosbifs?
