80s icon Midge Ure reschedules all shows to undergo 'urgent treatment'
Musician Midge Ure, known for 80s bands like Thin Lizzy and Ultravox, has been forced to reschedule 'all shows' after 'urgent'health issue. The 71-year-old icon was set to perform in Europe, the US, Australia and New Zealand later this year but has scrapped performances for the rest of the year. 'It is with great sadness and difficulty that I have to reschedule all shows planned from September onwards,' he said in a statement. 'During a recent routine check-up, doctors discovered a health issue that requires urgent treatment and a period of recovery.' Midge did not specify any details of the concern but added he was 'truly sorry for any inconvenience or disruption' this caused. 'I remain fully committed to performing all shows currently scheduled for this month and I'm looking forward to being out there with you for as long as I'm able,' he reassured fans. Midge rose to fame in the 80s in various popular bands such as Rich Kids, Slik, Visage and Ultravox before going solo, to further chart success. Alongside Bob Geldof, he organised Band Aid, having co-written and produced the charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? The new wave songwriter continued his philanthropy and went on to be involved with Live Aid and Live 8, as well as being an ambassador for Save The Children. While tour dates from September are being axed, Midge reassured everyone that his A Man Of Two Worlds Tour is 'very much going ahead.' He reassured fans that his previously announced A Man Of Two Worlds Tour, due to take place in May and June of 2026, is 'very much going ahead'. Announced last month and due to take place in May and June of 2026, the tour promises to offer a 'rare and deeply personal concert experience' for fans by bringing together album favourites with 'cinematic instrumentals'. His statement continued: 'I'm aiming to be back on the road again as soon as possible and looking forward to getting back out there and sharing this music with you all. 'My team and I are working closely with promoters to reschedule the affected dates, and we'll share updates on my Facebook page as soon as we have them. I kindly ask that you respect the privacy of myself and my family during this difficult time.' More Trending He ended the statement saying: 'Thank you, as always, for your understanding, patience, and unwavering support. It truly means a great deal. With thanks and love, Midge.' The Fade to Grey star recently played Isle of Wight Festival, seemingly in good spirits when the announcement was made, as he teased fans might 'strain your eyes' finding him in the stacked lineup. Before his announcement, Midge posted on Instagram saying it was a 'beautiful' night in Miltenberg, performing 'by the side of the Mainz River'. Metro has reached out to Midge's reps for comment. Terry 'Superlungs' Reid, the guitarist, singer, and songwriter who forged his own path after turning down Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, has died aged 75
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Terry Reid, the guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist whose emotive singing style led gave him the moniker 'Superlungs,' has died at 75, following a battle with cancer. Earlier in July, Reid was forced to postpone a European tour 'due to medical issues arising from recent treatment for cancer' – while his family and friends had organized a fundraising appeal to support the cost of his ongoing treatment. News of his death led to an outpouring of tributes from the music community, with Joe Bonamassa calling him 'one of the greatest to ever do it and a beautiful person and soul.' Determined to forge his own path, Reid famously turned down an offer by Jimmy Page to become the lead vocalist of the band that would evolve into Led Zeppelin, as well as an offer from Ritchie Blackmore to become Deep Purple's frontman. However, he was much more than that – in 1968, Aretha Franklin stated that the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Terry Reid were the best talents England had to offer. His career included extensive tours with the Stones, Cream, Jethro Tull, and Fleetwood Mac – the Isle of Wight Festival in 1969 and Glastonbury in 1970, as well as numerous collaborations with Graham Nash, a catalog of seven studio albums, session work with the likes of Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt, and songs he penned that featured in movies such as Up in the Air and The Devil's Rejects. In a 2023 interview with Uncut, Reid clarified that he'd rather be known as the man who put together Led Zeppelin. 'Jimmy [Page] asked me what he should do with the band,' he explained. 'He needed a singer who could sing around those guitar licks, and not everybody could do that. I'd seen Robert with John Bonham, so I said to him, 'Not only is Robert perfect, you've got to get the drummer – he's an animal!'' And while he may not have joined a big band, he clarified that he had no regrets and was proud of plowing his own furrow. 'When you're in a band, you're committed to that style,' he said matter-of-factly. 'You're not gonna be able to play any of that Brazilian music you like, cos they don't do that. And all those folk things you like, well, forget that.' Solve the daily Crossword

Justin Timberlake says he's been diagnosed with Lyme disease
The SexyBack singer, who described himself as a private person, wrote that he considered ending the tour when he was diagnosed, but wrote that he 'decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going'. Lyme disease is transmitted by Ixodes ticks, also known as deer ticks. It can cause flu-like conditions, neurological problems, joint pain and other symptoms. In the vast majority of cases, Lyme disease is successfully treated with antibiotics. 'I honestly don't know what my future is onstage, but I'll always cherish this run! And all of them before! It's been the stuff of legend for me,' Timberlake wrote. Timberlake cancelled and postponed multiple shows throughout the tour's run, citing health issues including bronchitis and laryngitis. Six of his US shows were postponed from October and November to February, the singer announced on Instagram. Timberlake ultimately cancelled the final show of the American leg of the tour in Ohio due to the flu in February. Justin Timberlake performed at the Isle of Wight festival (David Rutherford/Isle of Wight Festival/PA) Representatives for Timberlake did not immediately respond to The Associated Press's request for comment. Timberlake pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in New York's Hamptons in 2024. As part of his plea deal, the singer gave a public safety announcement in September, urging drivers not to get behind the wheel after drinking. The 10-time Grammy winner ended the post thanking his wife, Jessica Biel, and their two sons, Silas and Phin, saying 'nothing is more powerful than your unconditional love. You are my heart and my home. I'm on my way'.
