Teen who stabbed 10 prison officers moved to NHS unit with games and film nights

A teenager who plotted a terror attack at a popular UK festival has been moved to an NHS unit with arts and crafts and quizzes. Nathan Ruth, who can now be named for the first time after turning 18, has knifed 10 prison officers since being arrested in July 2022. Prison sources have expressed fears that staff at Bluebird House mental health facility in Hampshire are not safe from the extremist, who is a Muslim convert, MailOnline reports. A leaked intelligence report has revealed Ruth's history of improvising weapons and even wanting to kill a prison officer. He has also allegedly begun boasting about his new living arrangements and how the facility will be easier to escape from. Ruth was 15 when he researched weapons, stab vests and vehicles for a terror attack on the Isle of Wight Festival. He was arrested in July 2022 before being sentenced in April 2024 to seven years in jail. By that time, the teenager had racked up 18 attacks on prison officers, including one instance when he tried to slice a guard's ear off and attacked another with a makeshift knife. His new home will soon be Bluebird House mental health facility in Hampshire, which also offers sports facilities. The unit describes itself as a 'specialist, secure mental health inpatient unit' that creates 'a friendly, welcoming and therapeutic environment' for the young people in their care. Staff try to make it as 'homely and comfortable as possible' and offer 'activities, education and therapeutic sessions' during the day. The unit also offers a choice of meals and snacks and allows them to bring music into their rooms. They look after 20 young people in three wards, with fitness suits, a sports area and a games room. This makes a change from where he is currently housed at Feltham Young Offenders Institute in south-west London. Their guards wear full riot gear just to deliver food to Ruth or when they allow him out to shower or exercise. Sources inside the prison unit told MailOnline they were shocked the teenage terrorist had been transferred. The source added: 'He has stabbed so many officers while in Feltham – and openly boasts to staff that we will see him on the news one day.' 'We can't believe they have let him go. He has 100 per cent manipulated the system to get himself sent somewhere more comfortable.' They added: 'What really annoys staff is that he has received no further prison time for all the stabbings against staff.' More Trending 'They just want to focus on his rehabilitation. Well, tell that to the officer who nearly lost an ear. He is a stone-cold psychopath, the scariest I have ever seen. 'He will not stop until he has killed someone. Staff at that place do not know what they are letting themselves in for.' The Ministry of Justice said: 'Prisoners can be transferred for treatment in mental health hospitals, based on assessments by expert clinicians, but will return to prison once they are fit to do so. 'We do not tolerate violence against our hard-working staff and will always push for the strongest possible punishments for those who break the rules.' Terrorist moved to NHS unit with board games and film nights

A teenage terrorist who has stabbed 10 prison officers while in custody has been transferred to an NHS mental health unit that offers sports, games and film nights. Nathan Ruth, 18, has been held at Feltham Young Offenders Institute, in west London, since he was jailed for seven years last year after being convicted of plotting an attack at the Isle of Wight Festival. The then 15-year-old had researched weapons, vehicles and stab vests. Prison sources at Feltham have warned that staff at Ruth's new NHS mental health unit are not safe from the Muslim convert extremist, who tried to slice one guard's ear off and stabbed another with a makeshift weapon known as a shank. An intelligence report on Ruth, leaked to the Daily Mail, revealed that he has a history of improvising weapons and attacking staff and intends to kill a prison officer. Between his arrest in July 2022 and sentencing last April, Ruth, who was caught following a tip-off from the FBI, had already attacked prison personnel on 18 occasions. However, he will now be able to take advantage of sports facilities, quizzes, arts and crafts and film nights after being moved to Bluebird House, a secure mental health facility in Hampshire. The centre's website states that staff provide 'a friendly, welcoming and therapeutic environment for our young people'. The unit's three wards care for up to 20 young people and include a relaxation room, sports hall, games room, fitness suite and all-weather sports area. Patients are provided with their own 'homely and comfortable' bedroom with an en-suite. Its website said: 'During evenings and weekends, we plan activities such as sports, board games, quizzes, arts and crafts and film nights.' According to the Mail, guards at Feltham have worn full riot gear when they deliver food to Ruth or allow him out to shower or exercise. Prison officers said they were shocked at his move. 'He has stabbed so many officers while in Feltham, and openly boasts to staff that we will see him on the news one day,' a source told the Mail. 'We can't believe they have let him go. He has 100 per cent manipulated the system to get himself sent somewhere more comfortable. What really annoys staff is that he has received no further prison time for all the stabbings against staff. 'They just want to focus on his rehabilitation. Well, tell that to the officer who nearly lost an ear. He is a stone-cold psychopath, the scariest I have ever seen. He will not stop until he has killed someone. Staff at that place do not know what they are letting themselves in for.' A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: 'Prisoners can be transferred for treatment in mental health hospitals, based on assessments by expert clinicians, but will return to prison once they are fit to do so. Huge £3.5m UK floating hotel charging £700-per-night abandoned in the sea

From helping Britain defend itself against French warships to a luxury hotel charging guests £700 per night - this incredible sea fortress now appears to have been left to rot Stranded just a mile from the UK coast, this incredible granite island has taken on many life forms. Constructed in the 1860s as part of a trio of forts to defend Britain against French warships - Spitbank Sea Fort lies in the Solent on Spit Sand, 1,100m southwest of Southsea Castle in Portsmouth. With walls around 4.5m thick at basement level, and a 2.3m thick concrete roof - the fort was installed with anti-aircraft guns during World War Two to protect nearby Portsmouth harbour against German attacks. The fortress consisted of ammunition stores, fronted brick casemates, and an iron armoured gun gallery which faced out to sea. ‌ It homed soldiers, sergeants, and officers, up until the 1960s when it was decommissioned and turned into a museum. Then, in 2009, the circular sea fortress was built by millionaire businessman Mike Clare who reportedly spent a staggering £3.5 million refurbishing the island into a luxury hotel. ‌ Arms and ammunitions were removed for the venue, to make way for nine spacious bedroom suites, three bars, three restaurant areas, and spa facilities. A deluxe double room cost £700 per night, while a premier room came with an even heftier price tag of £750. "Where better to stay when visiting Cowes Week than on your own private fortress?" stated Visit Portsmouth, the area's official tourist board. "Want a magnificent venue for a private party where there is no chance of gatecrashers, then Spitbank Fort ticks all of the boxes. "What about luxurious accommodation for the Isle of Wight Festival where you can party on like a rock star long into the night? As Spitbank Fort can only be reached by own boats it provides a level of privacy, peace and tranquillity that is virtually impossible to find anywhere else in the world." ‌ Despite its glitz and glam, Fortbank Fort closed as a hotel in 2020 - following the Covid-19 lockdown. While travel enthusiasts have since discovered the empty fort, and claim it has been abandoned, the building was actually sold to an anonymous buyer last year. With a hammer price of just over £1 million, Spitbank Fort was sold by Savills, who witnessed 'global interest' from 'multiple buyer types'. They described the listing as an 'unparalleled opportunity to own a former island fort transformed into self-contained private accommodation', stating the island had potential for alternative use, subject to consent. "Nestled in the waters of Portsmouth Harbour, this remarkable property offers a truly one-of-a-kind living experience," Savills added. "Boasting approximately 33,000 sq. ft. of space, the fort's historic charm harmonizes with modern amenities. Enjoy panoramic views and exclusive privacy in this secluded yet accessible waterfront retreat."

The little trick that will get you into this Summer's best music festivals free

Festival season is here, with hundreds of thousands of music lovers set to head to city centres, parks and farms across the country from now until September. That's if you've been able to get a ticket. Demand is the first barrier for the most popular events, but even if you're first in the queue, price is potentially a bigger issue. As with everything, ticket prices have continued to rise. Last year Glastonbury was £355. This year those who managed to get a ticket were forking out £18.50 more at £373.50. The Isle of Wight Festival has increased by £15 to £285 this year and even one-day events can go past £100. However, if you're flexible or willing to put in some graft, then you can cut these prices –potentially getting in for free! Let's start with the freebies, which are available to volunteers. Most major UK festivals, small and large, offer free spots for those who'll work. That could be pouring pints at a bar or checking tickets at the gates, through to staffing help desks or litter picking. In return for a shift each day, you'll get free entry and often a food token. If it's a camping event there's usually a separate secure area to stay, too. On day festivals you can usually be done by 8pm so you can enjoy the headline performers. At longer events, you'll hopefully be able to switch shifts so you can see your favourite acts. Just be prepared to get there early for training and to work at least one night. Some will require you to stay on a day or two after to operate the clean-up. You will have to part with some cash upfront, but as long as you turn up for your shifts you'll get that refunded after the event – though watch out for some small admin fees that won't be returned by some organisers. Of course, some of these ships have already sailed. You've no chance of Glastonbury this year, or even the big-name dayers from the likes of Charli XCX and Stevie Wonder. But you can still pick up a free ticket to Leeds, Latitude and Boomtown, as examples. Many of the opportunities come via charities, so you'll also be helping to promote and raise funds for those causes. Ones to check include Oxfam, WaterAid, Charity Concierge and My Cause UK. Others come via commercial businesses, like Festaff and Hotbox Events. See their websites for details and application forms. But for those who don't want to work for their ticket, or don't have the time to commit to extra days off, all is not lost. I'd suggest you look for cheaper tickets at fan-to-fan resale sites such as Twickets and Tixel. The closer you get to an event, anyone who has to offload their ticket could get desperate and start listing it at a lower price. With Twickets you can even bid what you're prepared to pay. More Trending If you're really flexible, I'd also keep an eye on seat-filling sites including Central Tickets and Show Film First, which list cheap or free tickets for non-sold events a few days before they happen, for a small admin fee. You might also be able to pick up local tickets via sites such as Groupon and LivingSocial, though I haven't seen as many of these in recent years as I used to. View More » Failing that, and you have to pay full price, you can get around 5% back on Ticketmaster gift cards purchased from apps such as HyperJar, Cheddar or JamDoughnut, which would at least cover some of those booking fees.
