Colourful National Day celebration in Putrajaya

New Straits Times21 hours ago
PUTRAJAYA: Putrajaya will burst into colour on Aug 31 as Malaysia marks National Day.
There will be parades, performances and community festivities to unite the nation in patriotism.
The celebration will begin on Aug 30 with Riuh Merdeka, a festival of entertainment and togetherness.
From noon until the next day, visitors can enjoy 20 live performances by Malaysian artistes, an open-air film screening and a feast from 60 food trucks at Monumen Alaf Baru in Precinct 2.
But the highlight would come at dawn on National Day, said Information Department director-general Julina Johan.
"By 7am, leaders will gather to welcome His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, whose arrival will mark the start of the official ceremony," she said at a media briefing on the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations here yesterday.
She said a recital of the Rukun Negara and a 14-gun salute would set the tone of the celebration before a parade of impressive scale and colour takes centre stage.
She said more than 14,000 participants, including students, uniformed personnel and non-governmental organisations, would march along the 2.1km route from Dataran Putra.
The spectacle, she said, would feature 78 vehicles, seven decorated floats, 116 animals and 21 marching bands.
This year's event was designed to be more accessible and comfortable for the public, she said.
"A total of 15,000 parking spaces have been set aside across nearby precincts, with free transport by 100 shuttle buses and six water taxis on Putrajaya Lake.
"Spectator seating has been doubled to 8,000, supported by 12 giant LED screens, 18 medical tents, five surau and more than 200 portable toilets.
The celebration extends beyond the parade.
The nationwide Jualan Rahmah Merdeka Madani campaign, which started on Aug 15, will keep basic goods affordable in the run-up to National Day, while the #BersamaMalaysia campaign urges Malaysians to reflect on the meaning of independence.
The full dress rehearsal on Aug 29 will be open to the public.
Julina advised visitors to plan ahead due to road closures in Putrajaya from 10pm on Aug 29 to 6pm on National Day.

KLIA achieves global departure efficiency with airspace enhancements

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur International Airport has achieved global standards in departure efficiency through significant airspace enhancements. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia confirmed this major milestone in Malaysia's air traffic management capabilities. CAAM successfully conducted Simultaneous Independent Parallel Departure Operations on KLIA's triple runway system. This achievement marks a new benchmark in operational excellence for the aviation authority. The operation allows aircraft to depart simultaneously and independently from all three parallel runways. This enables three take-offs at the same time without any sequencing delays. The procedure incorporates strict separation standards and advanced air traffic management systems. It ensures the highest levels of safety while significantly reducing delays. The system also optimises traffic flow and dramatically increases departure capacity. This initiative builds upon the earlier Simultaneous Independent Parallel Approach Operations Based on Flight Direction. That enhancement was introduced in October 2024 and revolutionized arrival procedures. Both enhancements streamline aircraft arrival and departure routes within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Manoeuvring Area. This area serves as a critical hub for Malaysian and regional airspace operations. Performance data from May 2025 shows KLIA recorded an 86.54 per cent departure route efficiency. This slightly exceeds the global benchmark of 86.34 per cent for major international airports. Despite a 15 per cent increase in air traffic volume since October 2024, the airport achieved additional improvements. Arrival route efficiency saw a 1.34 per cent enhancement during the same period. CAAM chief executive officer Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud emphasized the significance of these advancements. These developments demonstrate CAAM's commitment to innovation, safety, and efficiency in Malaysian airspace management. By adopting international best practices and advanced procedures, Malaysia positions itself as a regional leader. Malaysia is establishing itself as a frontrunner in regional air traffic management excellence. CAAM will continue close collaboration with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and airline partners. This ensures that improvements in airspace operations translate to ground efficiency gains. The authority will maintain close monitoring of the initiative's performance and implementation. Expansion plans include rolling out these improvements across Malaysia's national airspace system. This supports growing aviation demand and strengthens industry confidence nationwide. These enhancements reinforce Malaysia's position as a leading regional aviation hub. - Bernama

Seremban family's RM200 flag display for Merdeka competition

SEREMBAN: Jasmin Abu Hassan has turned his Taman Pinggiran Senawang residence into a spectacular display of patriotism using only RM200. The 53-year-old water company supervisor decorated his house with over 150 flags for the 'Rumah Terpaling Merdeka' competition. He received assistance from his wife Rosmaini Mohd Yusof, a 47-year-old kindergarten teacher, throughout the two-week decoration process. Jasmin explained how this year's effort surpassed his previous attempts at festive decoration. 'Last year I only hung flags, but this time I added a special touch by including extra decorations,' he stated. The additional elements included the Negeri Sembilan state flag and portraits of national leaders displayed at his house entrance. 'This year is livelier because there are winners every week,' Jasmin commented about the enhanced competition format. He noted that the decorations have become more creative compared to previous years. 'The children are excited to help,' Jasmin added about family participation in the project. He proudly displayed portraits of all Malaysian Prime Ministers from the first to the current leader. Jasmin achieved the overall runner-up position in last year's competition. The father of six has resided in the neighborhood for twenty-five years. Approximately forty percent of his decorations remain incomplete before the month-end deadline. Taman Pinggiran Senawang Neighbourhood Watch chairman Fadzil Sharil expressed satisfaction with the competition's growth. The 59-year-old chairman noted the event now enters its second successful year. 'We have received growing response, with more than 80 per cent of residents participating,' Fadzil revealed. He observed that participants showcase greater creativity in decorating their homes compared to last year. 'So far, we already have four weekly winners,' the chairman told reporters. Although the prizes are modest medals, hampers and daily necessities, Fadzil praised participants' extraordinary spirit. 'Every week new elements are added, making the neighbourhood livelier,' he remarked. Twenty best-decorated houses will advance to the finals scheduled for September 6. The competition features four judging categories: cheerfulness, arrangement, creativity and neatness. The neighbourhood watch committee has also created a national landmark replica for the celebrations. They constructed miniature KLCC towers using 500 recycled bottles and PVC pipes. This community project forms part of the broader National Month decorations throughout the area. - Bernama
