Listen to This Article
For decades, Bihar has carried the heavy tag of being a 'one-way traffic state', reflecting the persistent outflow of its workforce, particularly the skilled and the young. From Delhi's crowded lanes to Punjab's farms and Maharashtra's construction sites, Bihari hands have built modern India, often far from home. But recent signals from the Nitish Kumar government suggest a desire to turn that tide.

Rivers Swell, Patna Double Deck Flyover Worth Rs 422 Cr Sinks As Rains Batter Bihar
Last Updated: Patna's double-deck flyover, inaugurated by the CM in June, has sunk after heavy rainfall. Built for Rs 422 crore, flooding has disrupted daily life and raised structural concerns. A recent incident has raised concerns about the structural integrity of Patna's double-deck flyover, which was inaugurated in June this year. Part of the double-deck flyover sinks after incessant rainfall in the city. The flyover was built for Rs 422 crore and was inaugurated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. A video of the flyover built to ease traffic congestion on Ashok Rajpath, connecting Kargil Chowk near Gandhi Maidan to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and Science College, was shared by the news agency ANI. Patna has suffered heavy rainfall over the past few days, causing severe flooding across major areas, including Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Exhibition Road and Gandhi Maidan. Waterlogging has severely impacted daily life, causing widespread disruptions, with roads, homes, hospitals, and schools getting flooded, accompanied by sewage overflow, traffic jams, and a breakdown of local drainage systems. The relentless rains have overwhelmed poor drainage systems, leading to disruptions in daily life and prompting worry over affected infrastructure, including the flyover. The double-deck flyover consists of two levels. The upper deck is 2,175.5 metres long and carries traffic from Gandhi Maidan to Science College. The lower deck is 1,449.3 metres long and helps vehicles move from Patna College to Gandhi Maidan, near BN College. Both decks, each 8.5 metres wide, connect to PMCH and are meant to reduce traffic jams in the city. According to the officials, Ashok Rajpath will soon have four levels—two flyover tiers, a ground-level service road, and the upcoming metro underground. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. NDA will form govt in Bihar under leadership of Nitish Kumar: Giriraj Singh
Exuding confidence over the outcome of the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar, Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Sunday said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form the government here under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. "Today, I can say with confidence that the next government in Bihar will be formed by the NDA under the leadership of Nitish Kumar and PM Modi," Giriraj Singh told reporters. Union Minister applauded the work done under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and mentioned that 17 bridges have been constructed over Bihar's Ganga river since 2014. Ever since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, 17 bridges have been built over the Ganga river in Bihar. Not only that, today there is no part in Bihar where there are no proper roads. The Modi government is the one which gave development to Bihar. It is only under the NDA government that people in Bihar have been employed, he said. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday said that it will double the remuneration for Booth Level Officers (BLOs), enhance remuneration for BLO Supervisors and give honorarium to Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs). "Pure electoral rolls are the bedrock of democracy. The electoral roll machinery, consisting of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), BLO Supervisors and Booth Level Officers (BLOs), do a lot of hard work and play a pivotal role in preparation of impartial and transparent electoral rolls. The Commission has therefore, decided to double the annual remuneration for BLOs & also enhanced the remuneration of BLO Supervisors involved in the preparation and revision of electoral rolls" it said in a press release. The apex poll body's press statement also mentioned that the last such revision was done in 2015 and the honorarium has been provided for EROs and AEROs for the first time.
