Kfar Yona, Israel: Eight people were taken to hospital after a car ploughed into a bus stop in central Israel on Thursday in a suspected car-ramming attack, emergency services said.
Israel's Magen David Adom (MDA) first responders said they received a report at 9:25 am (0625 GMT) that a vehicle crashed into a bus stop near Kfar Yona.
A man and woman in their 20s were said to be in a "moderate condition, with injuries to the chest and limbs", the MDA said.
Three others were in a "mild-moderate condition, with injuries to the head and limbs", it added. Three people were described as having "mild" injuries.
"The vehicle hit several people and fled the scene," police spokesman Aryeh Doron said.
The car was abandoned and later recovered and the driver is being hunted using helicopters, motorbikes and a specialist dog unit, police added.
The site of the crash was cordoned off as forensic investigators combed the scene, an AFP photographer said.

There has been a spate of violence in Israel and the occupied West Bank since the start of the war against Hamas in Gaza, triggered by the militants' attack on October 7, 2023.
A teenager died in March this year when police said a car driven by a Palestinian man deliberately ploughed into civilians at a bus stop in northern Israel.
At least 32 people, including soldiers, have died in attacks in Israel by Palestinians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.
In the West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967, at least 958 Palestinians, including many fighters but also civilians, have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers, according to Palestinian Authority figures.
At the same time, at least 36 Israelis, including civilians and soldiers, have been killed in Palestinian attacks or during Israeli military operations, Israeli figures showed.

Former Gaza contractor says Israeli soldiers were ready to shoot starving children

The Israeli military was preparing to gun down unarmed Palestinian children in Gaza, and a US mercenary firm told an employee that he was not allowed to stand in their way, according to a US military contractor hired to guard a Gaza aid site. Former Green Beret (US Army special forces) and contractor, Anthony Aguilar, revealed the chilling orders from the Israeli military in an interview with US Senator Chris Van Hollen aired by his office on Tuesday. Aguilar said that an Israeli lieutenant colonel ordered him to get the Palestinian children off a man's shoulders, on which they were standing, to avoid being crushed by a crowd of starving people trying to retrieve aid. 'A Palestinian man had picked up some children to let them step on his shoulders to get onto a berm because they were being crushed. He [the Israeli officer] says, 'Tell your men to get them down,'' Aguilar told Van Hollen. 'I was like, 'we got this under control'…they're children.' The Israeli officer erupted, Aguilar recalled, threatening, 'Get them down now or I will.' New MEE newsletter: Jerusalem Dispatch Sign up to get the latest insights and analysis on Israel-Palestine, alongside Turkey Unpacked and other MEE newsletters Aguilar said he ignored the threat as 'bombastic' until another US mercenary said the Israeli officer had used a radio to communicate with snipers at a nearby base, ordering them to kill the children. 'One of the contractors…was an American that did speak Hebrew. He said, 'Hey. He just told the snipers…to take these kids out',' Aguilar said. When Aguilar confronted the Israeli colonel, he replied, 'I'm gonna take care of this if you don't'. Aguilar said the children eventually ran away from the site, but he had told the Israeli officer that he would not allow him to shoot children. 'They didn't want to be there. They were unarmed. They didn't have shoes. One wasn't wearing a shirt. They were starving,' he said. 'Never say no' After the incident, Aguilar said the chief operations officer of a US mercenary firm, Safe Reach Solutions (SRS), called him outside and chastised him. 'He looked at me in the face and he said, 'Never say no to the client'.' Aguilar said he pressed the COO on who Safe Reach Solution's client was, adding that he was under the impression the company had been hired directly by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Starving child in Gaza was killed minutes after receiving aid, former US military contractor says Read More » 'He said 'No, the IDF…we work for them,' he added, referring to the Israeli army. SRS is run by a former high-ranking CIA officer and tied to a US private equity firm in Chicago, Middle East Eye has reported. Aguilar says he was contracted by another firm, UG Solutions, but was taking orders from SRS. Aguilar told Van Hollen he is a former Green Beret who attended the prestigious West Point Military Academy. After graduation, he said he was commissioned as an infantry officer and had 12 combat deployments during a 25-year military career, including to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. He says he has since severed his contract with UG Solutions and is speaking out. The GHF has said Aguilar's contract was terminated by UG Solutions for misconduct. GHF spokesperson Chapin Fay previously accused Aguilar of presenting " falsified documents' and 'misleading videos" about his time in Gaza. Aguilar has told other news outlets that he witnessed Israeli soldiers and US military contractors shooting unarmed Palestinian civilians and committing "war crimes". 'I'm coming out now because I feel that it's important that the American people know from a trusted and reliable source that was there,' he said. 'The American people need to know what the United States is involved in, in Gaza,' he said.

Yoseph Haddad, pro-Israel advocate, arrested for firing gun during argument

Yoseph Haddad, a well known pro-Israel advocate and online personality, has been arrested by Israeli police after firing a gun during an argument. Israeli media reported that Haddad had been taken in for questioning after firing his weapon during an altercation with a motorist on a road in Jaffa. The other person was also arrested following the incident. According to the newspaper Maariv, it was alleged that one of the two individuals spat at the other. Police are investigating the incident. Haddad's lawyer, cited by Maariv, said that while some media had stated that the incident resulted from a 'roadside argument', it was actually 'based on racism and hatred against Yosef Haddad by an Arab man who recognised him and began to curse, threaten his life, and even spit on and physically attack him'. The lawyer stated that his client's car was overtaken by 'an Arab resident of Jaffa', who noticed that it was Haddad, made a u-turn, 'approached Haddad, attacked and cursed at him'. New MEE newsletter: Jerusalem Dispatch Sign up to get the latest insights and analysis on Israel-Palestine, alongside Turkey Unpacked and other MEE newsletters Haddad then felt threatened, and so took out his gun to deter the attacker, at which point he shot at a nearby wall, causing no injuries. Middle East Eye could not independently verify the lawyer's account. 'Broader phenomenon' Haddad, who describes himself as an Arab-Israeli, has worked as a journalist and an advocate for several pro-Israel organisations. Last year, he was ejected from a fiery Oxford Union debate by two security officers after being accused of insulting a Palestinian student. He served in the Israeli military during the 2006 war with Lebanon, during which he was seriously wounded and had his foot amputated. Israeli settler accused of killing No Other Land activist released under house arrest Read More » 'The incident we saw today with Yosef Haddad is indicative of a much broader phenomenon concerning the chaos in the country,' Abed Abu Shahada, a Palestinian activist and writer from Jaffa, told Middle East Eye. 'Unfortunately, it's only when people start dying that the media begins to sound the alarm about the ongoing violence - whether in the West Bank or within Israel itself. Specifically, within Israel in the past two years, there have been hundreds of cases of assaults against Palestinian citizens.' Abu Shahada said that such incidents were taking place in the absence of functioning police institutions protecting personal safety. 'I'm not surprised that some in Israeli society see this chaos as an opportunity - an opportunity to take revenge on Arabs, to attack Arabs, to shoot at Arabs,' he said. 'This is part of the broader public atmosphere - starting with the genocide, and even a little before - but especially after the genocide in Gaza, cases of chaos and violence have only become more frequent and more intense, driven by a sense of power.'
