WB man sentenced to state prison for online child solicitation
Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough sentenced Joseph Mark Joyce, 57, last known address as South Main Street, to 15-to-30 months in prison on charges of criminal attempt to commit unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of communication facility. Joyce pled guilty to the charges Feb. 14.
Kingston police charged Joyce in January 2023, based on information from a confidential witness posing online as an "almost-16-year-old girl," according to court records.
Joyce sent the girl a message, "Hey babygirl...wyd," and proceeded to communicate how he enjoys having sex outdoors and in front of people, court records say.
Joyce proposed during his online communications, court records say, they could start having sex on a bridge.
During his sentencing hearing, Joyce said he was "sorry about this."
Joyce is subject to 25 years registration as a sex offender under the state's Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act.
In an unrelated case, Joyce was sentenced to two years probation for hindering apprehension that was filed by the Pennsylvania State Police at Wilkes-Barre stemming from an incident in Plymouth Township on on Dec. 29, 2021.

Pennsylvania State Police investigating deadly shooting in Ellsworth Borough
Pennsylvania State Police troopers are investigating a late-night deadly shooting in Washington County. Washington County dispatchers confirmed to KDKA-TV that first responders were called to a home along Walnut Street in Ellsworth Borough around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday night. Pennsylvania State Police looking for man accused of robbing Aldi in East Huntingdon Township
Pennsylvania State Police are on the hunt for a man who they say robbed an Aldi grocery store in East Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County, earlier this week. Police say the man attempted to enter the grocery store via the roof before prying open the front doors. He got away with an undisclosed amount of money. The perpetrator that state police are looking for is a white man, wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, black shoes, a blue backpack, a light blue watch on his left wrist, and a white bandana to cover his face. Trooper Steve Limani says that state police are pursuing all leads and reviewing business surveillance videos to solve this case, but they are also looking for help from the public. "If anybody can identify this person or if somebody was in that shopping plaza, driving by roughly around 2 a.m., where the video footage has this person around the store, please feel free to contact us," Trooper Limani said. Trooper Limani also said that the suspect tried to cut a hole in the roof and drop down into the office below. Eventually, he gave up and took a crowbar to the front door to get in. Limani says he was likely only inside the store and its back office for a few minutes before grabbing what he could and exiting the way he came in. No alarms went off to notify police, and the theft wasn't even spotted until workers arrived to open the store in the morning. Trooper Limani says they don't see a threat to the public, but he adds that the person, when caught, will be facing several charges. "It is a burglary, which is a felony," Trooper Limani said. "So, the person is facing felony charges if we can track them down." Venango County man facing charges for possession of child sexual abuse material
A Venango County man is facing charges for possession of child sexual abuse material following an investigation, Attorney General Dave Sunday announced on Wednesday. Gregory L. Ahmadian, 64, is charged with 11 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and one count of criminal use of a communication facility, all of which are felonies. Ahmadian was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after an hours-long standoff with law enforcement, according to a press release from the Office of Attorney General. Office of Attorney General agents, with assistance from Pennsylvania State Police, negotiated with Ahmadian to surrender. Ahmadian was armed inside his home during the standoff. He eventually surrendered around 4:30 p.m. No one was hurt in the stand-off incident. "I commend our agents and Pennsylvania State Police for collaborating on the safe apprehension of an individual who was armed and under criminal investigation, posing a potential threat to everyone in his proximity during this standoff," Attorney General Sunday said. "He is now facing serious charges regarding exploitation and abuse of children, which is the reason law enforcement was at his home on Tuesday." Ahmadian was arraigned late Tuesday night. He was denied bail, with the magisterial district judge finding Ahmadian to be "a threat to self or others."
