Sepoy Harminder Singh: A Tricolour homecoming for Punjab's braveheart
His mother, Gurpreet Kaur, spoke to the mediapersons through tears, 'Harminder had thought of getting his house renovated and we were also insisting him to get married… he had told me that whenever he will come on holiday, he will surely think about marriage… but who knew that he will come wrapped in a tricolour.'
Village sources mention that Gurpreet remains inconsolable, and his father, Jaswant Singh, along with his sister, are both battling serious health issues for long now deepening the family's sorrow.
On the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, the family was mourning over the loss of their son.
His uncle, Darshan Singh, said, 'Our government should take strict steps to deal with terrorists… the army should be given a free hand to combat terrorists… our young bravehearts are getting martyred.'
And Harminder's friend Gurminder Singh, said, 'He used to inspire others to work towards fitness and get enrolled in army… he was an inspiration to all of us… we are proud of his bravery but at the same time we are in grief over losing him.'
Harminder will be cremated on Sunday morning in Badinpur, with full military honours.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in a heartfelt post on X, solemnly said: 'In an encounter with terrorists in Kulgam… the tragic news was received of the martyrdom of soldier Pritpal Singh… and Sepoy Harminder Singh from the village of Badinpur… We express our heartfelt condolences to the families. We salute the spirit and bravery of the soldiers… an ex-gratia of ₹1 crore each will be provided to the families.'
The Chief Minister added, 'Their dedication and bravery will always be remembered,' and reaffirmed Punjab's unwavering support for the bereaved in this time of grief. Meanwhile the operation Akhal has been continuing in Kulgam since August 1.

SRINAGAR: Over 4.14 lakh devotees performed Amarnath yatra from twin routes of Pahalgam in south Kashmir and Batal in central Kashmir this year, said Lt Governor Manoj Sinha at a felicitation ceremony held at Raj Bhawan Auditorium, here on Tuesday. Last year, 5.1 lakh pilgrims had paid obeisance at the Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas. 'The enthusiasm and devotion of devotees and successful pilgrimage was a befitting reply to the enemy's design of destabilising peace in J&K UT,' the Lieutenant Governor said. He congratulated people of J&K for making the pilgrimage a rich spiritual experience for devotees. 'Amarnath Yatra is a confluence of humanity and faith. Every pilgrim is now a brand ambassador for Jammu Kashmir,' Sinha said. He asked the officials to analyse and apply the experiences and lessons learned from this year's pilgrimage, and take up the works on priority for a better experience of the pilgrims in future. This year's 38-day Amarnath yatra started on July 3. However, the authorities suspended the yatra a week before its scheduled end on August 9 on Raksha Bandhan, citing adverse weather conditions and its impact on the yatra. Shri Amarnath Barfani Langars Organisation (SABLO), the apex body representing various Bhandara (langar) groups serving free food (langars) to pilgrims during the pilgrimage, had objected to premature suspension of the yatra saying the 'arbitrary stoppage amounts to a denial of the fundamental right to worship and is violation of spiritual customs and traditions associated with the yatra'.

Brigadier's mother, 85, found dead at Lucknow home; police probe suspicious death
Lucknow police on Monday night recovered the body of 85-year-old Dr Sarojini Kapoor, a retired Sainik School teacher and mother of Brigadier Akhilesh Kapoor, from her home under suspicious to officials, Brigadier Kapoor, who is posted elsewhere, had called his mother several times during the night but received no response. Concerned, he alerted relatives in the city to check on her. When the relatives reached the house, they found the door locked from inside, prompting them to call the officers arrived at the scene and, after gaining entry by breaking the door through the terrace, found Sarojini lying lifeless in the prayer room. Her body was sent for post-mortem, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death has been initiated. Family members said Sarojini had been suffering from multiple ailments, including heart and respiratory problems. She had experienced difficulty breathing as recently as Saturday. Her husband, Manohar Kapoor, passed away 11 years ago, and a maid would visit the house daily to prepare Rakshabandhan, she had gone to her brother's home in Chowk's vegetable market area to tie him a rakhi. Shifted for ‘arguing' with group, SI reinstated after probe finds he's attacked
Agra: A sub-inspector who was transferred to police lines after an altercation with a group of men last Saturday was reinstated to his post at Dadon police station in Aligarh after it was found that he was the victim, not the aggressor, police said on Tuesday. A case has been registered against six individuals – including Sihani Faridpur village pradhan Devendra Yadav – for assaulting SI Rajveer Singh with sticks and rods, and tearing his uniform while he was on duty at Alampur crossroads during Rakshabandhan on Aug 9. CCTV footage of the incident has been widely circulated online. Police said the clash occurred over a challan issued to one of Yadav's associates during a vehicle-checking drive earlier. Before an FIR was even filed against Yadav, Singh was transferred to the police lines. Questions were raised over his shifting, prompting the police authorities to clarify that the transfer was a "clerical error". The order was later revoked. DSP (Chharra) Dhananjay said, "Six people, including the pradhan, were booked under relevant sections, including BNS 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to a public servant to deter them from performing their duty) on Aug 9 for assault and unruly behaviour.
