Elderly driver mounts footpath, ploughs into CBD store pinning shopper
The 87-year-old man, from Ivanhoe in the city's north-east, was behind the wheel of a teal Mercedes-Benz sedan when it mounted the footpath on Elizabeth Street about 2.30pm Wednesday.
The car struck a pedestrian, a 19-year-old man from Parkville, before smashing through the glass facade of KT Mart and hitting another 56-year-old man inside.
The vehicle pinned the shopper, who was left with a bloodied leg, 7News reported.
Police said the building sustained major structural damage, while both people struck by the car were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
'The driver of the vehicle is expected to undergo a [licence] review,' a Victoria Police spokeswoman said. 'The investigation remains ongoing.'
The driver, who was the only person in the car, was uninjured.
A large police presence was reported in the CBD after the crash. The outer carriageway of Elizabeth Street was closed to traffic between Queensberry Street and Victoria Street.

Harrowing footage has captured the moment a man attacked two police officers in a Melbourne home, slashing one with a box knife before fleeing the scene in a stolen car, which he later set alight. Newly released footage shows Diesel Jackson, 25, fighting a male and female police officer, neither of whom were equipped with tasers, at a home in Frankston on March 22, 2024. The officers had arrived at the property at 6.30pm that evening, responding to reports of a man with a stolen white Jeep Grand Cherokee. Footage, released by a judge to 7News on Friday, shows Mr Jackson waving a knife in front of the male police officer. 'Put it down! Put it down!' the officer shouted, while pointing a gun at the man. 'Put the f***ing knife down!' At one point, the female officer is heard pleading with the male officer to let Mr Jackson go, after being 'trapped' alone in the room with him. 'No, no, let him go, let him get out … I'm trapped!' she said. During the altercation, Mr Jackson was sprayed with capsicum spray but it had little effect. 'Let him go, not worth it,' the female officer said as Mr Jackson made his way downstairs. Outside, the pair stood and watched as Jackson drove away, only to return moments later. He accelerated toward them as they stood on the pavement. 'Watch out, he's going to ram us!' the female officer shouted. 'Get out of the way!' What followed was a high-speed police pursuit captured by aerial footage over southeast Melbourne, with Jackson allegedly reaching speeds of up to 170km/h. The stolen Jeep was seen mounting kerbs and median strips, continuing on even after hitting police-deployed stop sticks. The chase came to an end when Jackson lost control and spun out on Cranbourne Road. He then set the vehicle alight before fleeing on foot. He was caught shortly afterwards. Both officers were taken to hospital following the incident, which has since renewed pressure on the Victorian Government to accelerate its plan to equip all frontline police with tasers. Wayne Gatt, chief executive of the Police Association Victoria, said tasers would 'definitely have helped in the situation.' Jackson, 25, was later charged with 28 offences, including assaulting an emergency worker on duty, intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, and theft of a motor vehicle. He was convicted of eight offences and three summary offences and sentenced to six years in prison, with a non-parole period of four years. 'Our thoughts remain with the victims and their loved ones,' a Victorian Government spokesperson said in a statement provided to 'We thank all the men and women of Victoria Police who put their lives on the line every day to keep Victorians safe. 'We have delivered $214 million to give Victoria Police next-gen tasers and we continue to introduce a range of tough new laws that back the work of Victoria Police.'

AFL great Trent Cotchin's family ‘rattled' after brazen daylight robbery
Richmond legend Trent Cothin and his family have been the victims of a brazen robbery. The triple premiership captain and Brownlow medallist had a number of his items stolen from his car outside his Moonee Ponds home on Thursday night. Wife Brooke shared details of the ordeal on social media, posting security footage of a car pulling up in front of their house at 6pm. A hooded thief then went to Cotchin's unlocked Mercedes, opening the door and helping himself to a wallet, including an Amex card. Cotchin told 7NEWS that multiple transactions were made on the card before they locked it. Police were at the Cotchin's house on Friday morning to take statements. Brooke said on Instagram that anything 'half valuable' in the car had been taken, along with a picture of a toothbrush and toothpaste that was left behind. She also said her family were 'rattled' by the incident and that one of their children slept with their lights on. They shared footage of the incident in a bid to raise awareness and hope online sleuths can help find the thief. Cotchin retired at the end of 2023 after a brilliant career with the Tigers. As well as captaining the team to three premierships, Cotchin won three best and fairests during his storied 306-game career.

Shocking footage emerges of assault on 60-year-old man during home invasion in Gladstone Park, Melbourne
Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a man was stabbed and beaten by a group of armed thugs during a terrifying home invasion in Melbourne's northwest. Kemal Akbulut, 60, was seriously injured in the violent attack inside a home on Trentham Dr, Gladstone Park in the early hours of July 24. Five men armed with guns and knives entered the home and cornered both Kemal and his cousin Birsel Akbulut, 57. When Kemal confronted the men they launched into a vicious attack. The footage shows the moment Kemal was set upon by the group, who began beating him, stabbing him and striking him with a hammer. He can be heard yelling and crying out during the ordeal. One of the thugs can be heard yelling: 'Where's the money?' Another can then be seen pointing a gun at Kemal while shining the flashlight from a phone in his face. They then demanded he get up and Kemal said he would give them whatever they wanted. The offenders also threatened Birsel inside the home with the gun. She told 7NEWS the pair were innocent victims and that the offenders were actually looking for her daughter's underworld boyfriend. The offenders fled the Gladstone Park home in a white Haval SUV. No one has been charged and investigations are ongoing.
