FAI head of women's football Hannah Dingley resigns after one year in job
HANNAH DINGLEY IS to leave her role as head of women's and girls' football at the FAI after handing in her resignation just one year in the job.
Less than a month after chief football officer Marc Canham announced his decision to depart after three years at the helm, Dingley is also set to return to Britain.

The Welsh native had an interim spell in charge of Forest Green Rovers, becoming the first woman to manager senior men's team in England's professional pyramid, before joining the FAI last May.
Dingley arrived at the association to fill the void left by Eileen Gleeson after she was appointed permanent manager of the senior women's international team.
While Gleeson has since been replaced by Carla Ward, she is understood to still be a FAI employee, although chief executive David Courell and Canham sidestepped that issue during recent media interviews.
It was only in March that Dingley made her first significant appearance in the job, launching the FAI's Women & Girls' Football Action Plan at the Mansion House.
Now the FAI are beginning another recruitment process for a senior figure, although Canham's successor could be announced before he departs at the end of this month.

World Cup of Darts 2025: England's Luke Littler and Luke Humphries torn apart by Germany
The world's top two players slipped to an 8-4 second round defeat at the Eissporthalle in Frankfurt, where Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko made the most of the backing of a partisan home crowd to seal a comprehensive victory. Booed by the home crowd, Littler started nervously and the Germans took the first two legs, but his 123 check-out got England on the board before a 64 finish levelled it up at 2-2. However, the the teenager missed three darts at a double in the fifth leg to allow Pietreczko to win it with a 106 out-shot and another in the sixth as the Germans restored their advantage, and after Humphries had hit 25 rather than bull going for 122, they went in at the break 5-2 ahead. Pietreczko took out 101 after the resumption before Germany went 7-2 up and although Littler and Humphries took the next two, they eventually succumbed as a return of just four doubles from the 11 chances they created ultimately proved costly. Germany's reward is a quarter-final tie against Australia, who routed Argentina 8-1 with Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock proving too strong for Jesus Salate and Victor Guillin despite missing 21 of their 29 attempts at doubles. Twice-winners Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton secured Wales' passage with a resounding 8-2 win over the Philippines. ADVERTISEMENT The Welsh pair, who claimed the crown in 2020 and 2023, powered their way through to a last eight clash with Hong Kong with the minimum of fuss despite the first three legs going against the darts. However, Scotland's Peter Wright and Gary Anderson found themselves on the wrong end of a demolition job as they went down 8-0 to the Netherlands in just 15 minutes. Danny Noppert and world youth champion Gian Van Veen, who took out 130 to claim the fourth leg on Scotland's throw, were in inspired form, averaging 100.2 and converting eight of the 12 darts they had at doubles to breeze through to a meeting with the Czech Republic. William O'Connor and Keane Barry eased the Republic of Ireland to a showdown with neighbours Northern Ireland after an 8-3 victory over Switzerland in which they were always in control. Northern Ireland were comfortable winners over South Africa as Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney eased them to an 8-2 success. Elsewhere, there were wins for the Czechs over Malaysia and Hong Kong against Sweden.

Japanese high school students perform incredible version of Welsh anthem
Ahead of this summer's Test series between Wales and Japan, Japanese high school students have delivered a stirring rendition of the Welsh national anthem, Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. The Welsh team, led by Matt Sherratt, is set to face off against the Brave Blossoms in two Tests next month. The first match will be held at Mikuni World Stadium in Kitakyushu on 5 July. This isn't the first time the Welsh side has visited Kitakyushu; they were warmly welcomed there during their pre-World Cup training camp in 2019. Gathered at Kokura Station, the students were dressed in Welsh rugby T-shirts while harmonising to the 'Land of My Fathers'. The collective received warm applause after completing their version of the anthem. Warren Gatland's Wales spent six days in the city prior to the 2019 World Cup, with hundreds of schoolchildren turning up to welcome the squad to their hometown. Chants of 'Go, Go, Cymru!' could be heard from the crowds at the airport. As well as this, Kokura Castle was illuminated in the colours of Wales. After Wales face Japan in the first Test next month, they will travel to Osaka Bay. The second and final match against the Brave Blossoms will take place in Kobe at the Noevir Stadium on July 12. Wales have lost 17 international matches in a row, and are looking for their first win since October 2023, with interim head coach Sherratt the man tasked with trying to steer the ship. Ahead of the tour, the Cardiff Rugby boss has drafted in T Rhys Thomas, Adam Jones, Danny Wilson and Gethin Jenkins onto his coaching staff. Wales legend Leigh Halfpenny is the latest to be added, and will take on his first international coaching role despite still being an active professional player. The iconic full-back is rumoured to be joining French second division outfit Beziers next season, but over the summer he'll be taking on kicking coaching duties from mentor Neil Jenkins in the Far East. At the helm for Japan is former England boss Eddie Jones, who has recently called up a university student ahead of the tour. There are 16 uncapped players in the squad, with an average age of just 26. There's just one player with more than 50 caps in the squad - veteran Michael Leitch, who has played in four World Cups and earned 87 appearances at Test level. The two nations have not faced each another for nine years. Ireland's Down syndrome futsal team eyeing European glory
Ireland's first national Down syndrome futsal team will depart for the SUDS European Championships in Italy tomorrow. The team's participation in the competition is the culmination of a continuing partnership between the FAI and Down Syndrome Ireland, which first began in 2023. Hosting the week-long championships in Ferrara is the Italian Paralympic Sport Federation for athletes with intellectual or relational disabilities, FISDIR. The Irish team has already taken part in two previous international events, facing Italy, Portugal and Turkey in 2023, and the USA in 2024. Organisers have said these international matches have raised the profile of both the sport and the abilities of Irish players with Down syndrome and have also led to the development of a tailored grassroots programme within the League of Ireland structure. League of Ireland clubs are now setting up their own teams for players with Down syndrome through their social responsibility programmes. Two major blitzes are currently held every year, with some inter-club matches during the season also expected to get under way shortly. The FAI has said the development of Down Syndrome futsal continues to grow across the country with the support of its Football For All programme. The 11-player squad named to represent their country at the SUDS European Championships followed months of assessment with over 100 players available for selection nationwide. The final national assessment took place at TU Dublin's Blanchardstown Campus in February. The management team of Mark Ross, Conor McKahey and Nigel Fitzharris have said that given the players are excelling with their respective League of Ireland clubs, hopes are high for the tournament. The 10 outfield players and one goalkeeper headed for the northern Italian city of Ferrara will be representing six Down Syndrome Ireland branches from around the country. There are four players from the Donegal branch, three from the Louth/Meath branch and one each from the Cork, Dublin, Mayo and Waterford branches.
