Ireland bowler Curtis Campher becomes first man to take five wickets in five balls
Reflecting on the moment, Campher said:"Because of the change of overs, I wasn't really sure what was happening. I just kind of stuck to my guns and kept it really simple - and luckily, it sort of came off."Though he is the first man to achieve the feat in professional cricket, Campher is not the first cricketer overall. That distinction belongs to Zimbabwe Women's all-rounder Kelis Ndhlovu, who claimed five wickets in five balls for Zimbabwe U-19 against Eagles Women in a domestic T20 match in 2024.Campher is no stranger to producing magical moments on the field. He previously took four wickets in four balls for Ireland against the Netherlands during the 2021 T20 World Cup - joining a select group of bowlers to have done so at international level.Earlier in the match, Munster Reds posted a competitive 188 for 7 from their 20 overs after electing to bat. Campher's record-breaking spell then ensured the total was never seriously challenged.Since making his debut for Ireland in 2020, Campher has played seven Tests, 43 ODIs, and 61 T20Is, and his latest feat cements his place among Ireland's most impactful cricketers.- Ends

Chaudhary and Singh got the better of the Chinese Taipei pairing of Liu Heng-Yu and Hsieh Hsiang-Chen 17-9 to add to the Indian medal tally. The Indian shooting duo of Saurabh Chaudhary and Suruchi Inder Singh bagged the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Asian Shooting Championships on Wednesday. Chaudhary and Singh got the better of the Chinese Taipei pairing of Liu Heng-Yu and Hsieh Hsiang-Chen 17-9 to add to the individual bronze Manu Bhaker clinched in the women's 10m air pistol competition a day earlier. The Indian pair qualified for the medal round, placing fifth with Suruchi firing 292 and Saurabh scoring 286. The duo aggregated 578 in the qualification round to be placed fifth going into the eight-team medal round. Suruchi, who has been on song this season, winning four World Cup medals, started the qualification round with a perfect 100 in the opening series, faltered in the second to score 94, and ended the preliminary round with a 98. Chaudhary had series scores of 95, 96, and 95. Earlier at the event, Bhaker achieved a score of 219.7 in the eight-women finals, securing third place. China's Qianke Ma won the gold medal with a score of 243.2, narrowly surpassing Korean Jiin Yang, who took the silver with 241.6. The 23-year-old Bhaker advanced to the final by finishing third in the qualifications, scoring 583. Korea's Yejin Oh led the qualifications with a score of 585, but she was competing for ranking points only, allowing China's Qianxun Yao to enter the final as the top-ranked shooter. Esha Singh, also competing for ranking points, finished ninth with 577, while Suruchi Singh secured 12th place with 574. Palak ended in 17th position with 573, and Surbhi Rao (RPO) was 25th with 570. R Ashwin Says "Sanju Samson Not Going To Play", Shubman Gill Is The Reason. Here's Why
Team India's Asia Cup 2025 squad has given former cricketers and pundits plenty to talk about. Shubman Gill 's return to the T20I set in the capacity of Suryakumar Yadav 's deputy saw some of the other players being forced out of the team. There was no place for the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer in the team. However, former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin feels Gill's return is set to see Sanju Samson being dropped to the bench too. In a video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin expressed sympathy with Jaiswal and Iyer after the duo found no place in India's 15-member squad. Though Ashwin admitted that team selection is a thankless job, he hopes the snubbed players were explained the reasons behind the decisions taken by the BCCI selection committee. "See, I understand that selection is a thankless job. Leaving somebody out, telling someone they are dropped, it is not an easy thing. You have to speak to the players, you have to go through the sadness. I just hope Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal were given a call, and they were told the reasons behind not being picked," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel 'Ash Ki Baat'. "Genuinely, I understand Shubman Gill's selection. He is also the vice-captain. He has scored a lot of runs for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL. He has credentials to be picked in the T20I setup," he added. Ashwin admitted that Shubman too deserved a place in the team but the selectors 'were not fair' to Jaiswal and Iyer. "When you have Yashasvi Jaiswal as the third opener in the T20 World Cup 2024, to remove someone from the World Cup squad and bring in Shubman Gill. I mean, it's okay, I am happy for Shubman, but I'm very sad for both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer. It is just not fair to these two kids," said Ashwin. Agarkar also hinted that Gill is being groomed as the man to lead India in all three formats, hence his elevation as the T20I vice-captain. But, Ashwin doesn't think such a step was necessary either. "Jaiswal has also been in some fine form. Maybe they are thinking of Shubman Gill as the leader for the future. Maybe he can be the all-format captain. But it is not necessary to have the same captain in all formats," said Ashwin. Gill's promotion as Suryakumar's deputy makes him a certain pick in the Indian XI. Hence, the batter will most likely open alongside Abhishek Sharma for India, possibly forcing the management to leave Sanju Samson on the bench.

"Not The Final Squad For...": BCCI's Big Message Amid Asia Cup Squad Announcement
Test skipper Shubman Gill was on Tuesday appointed as vice-captain, with the BCCI announcing India's squad for the Asia Cup, starting September 9. Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the men's selection committee, and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav announced the squad during a press conference in Mumbai, which was delayed due to inclement weather. When the moment arrived, Agarkar ended the suspense surrounding Gill, who impressed in his debut series as Test captain against England. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah 's inclusion, while the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar and pacer Prasidh Krishna 's getting snubbed, were the other major takeaways from the day. While Agarkar insisted that they could've only picked 15 this time around, he also urged the ones who were left out not to loose hope, especially with India set to play 20 odd T20Is before next year's T20 World Cup. "Sundar is always in the scheme of things. Not the final squad for the World Cup. At the moment we have three spinners in the squad. Whenever you need four spinners, he might always come in you in the equation. At the moment we though, Rinku Singh is the spare batter that we need. Jitesh and Sanju are the wicketkeepers. We can only pick 15, had there been 16, he might have been there," Agarkar said. Agarkar added that while the core of the team will remain same, the door will remain open for others, depending on how the players perform in the remaining T20Is before the T20 World Cup "With 20 games left, you have a fair idea on who your guys are likely to be. After every World Cup, you try and plan for the next down the squad as close you get. With what 22 games you play, you have a fair idea. Injuries and form can dictate a little bit. There might be changes, there are no guarantees. But in general, because there is a World Cup around the corner, you will always know who are your best 18 or 20 guys to pick from. An I think you have got some serious options," Ajit Agarkar said on the core for the T20 World Cup.
