Hong Kong police launch first drone patrols in urban areas
Hong Kong police have launched their first drone patrols in urban settings, with the unmanned aerial vehicles able to inspect an area the size of 13 football pitches in 25 minutes.
The force on Friday deployed a drone to cover a 96,000 square metre area around Yau Ma Tei and Jordan in Kowloon.
Carlos Shum Lap-chi, operations officer in Yau Tsim police district, said the patrol area bordered Dundas Street, Nathan Road and a section of Waterloo Road in Yau Ma Tei, as well as Ferry Street in Jordan.
'Our drone patrols can perform a few more rounds than [equivalent] ground patrols. The effectiveness is significant,' Shum said.
The patrol followed the launch of a three-month pilot scheme for drones to inspect the border and Kowloon West late last month.
As part of the pilot scheme, drone patrols in Yau Tsim, which covers Yau Ma Tei, Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui, would first focus on crime hotspots, Shum said.

Hong Kong police arrest 2, hunting for third over burglaries at antiques warehouse
Hong Kong police have arrested two men and are hunting for a third in connection with two burglaries at an antiques warehouse where more than 100 jade pieces, antiques and accessories valued at over HK$2 million (US$254,860) were stolen. 'The victim's initial estimate places the total value of the stolen items at over HK$2 million, but the exact amount and losses are still being tallied.' An Eastern district crime squad took over the investigation, poring over a large amount of security footage, including from the force's citywide SmartView camera system. 'Coupled with intelligence analysis, police arrested two men suspected to be involved in the case [on Friday] and successfully recovered a portion of the stolen goods,' Chan said, adding that the investigation was ongoing. Inspector Tse Yuen-ying of the district crime squad said the first burglary on May 14 was a solo job. The same suspect allegedly returned with two accomplices on Thursday.

Retired Hong Kong priest arrested for alleged sexual assault of minor in 1990s
Hong Kong police have arrested a 66-year-old retired priest on suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor on two occasions more than 30 years ago, the Post has learned. A source said on Saturday that a woman, now 44, filed a police report late last month alleging she had been sexually assaulted twice at a church in Sham Shui Po between September 1993 and March 1994. She was 13 years old at the time. The man was accused of sexually assaulting the minor while she was studying inside the church. The source said the assaults were alleged to have taken place at the Hong Kong & Macau Lutheran Living Stone Church. Management had assisted police with their investigation and helped look into whether there were other potential victims, the insider said. Police said officers had arrested a 66-year-old man in Fanling district on Friday on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 16 years of age, buggery with a girl under 21 and indecency with a child under 16. The man has been released on bail pending further investigation, and he must report to police later this month.

9 injured in collision involving taxi, private car near Hong Kong Disneyland
Nine people, including a one-year-old girl, were injured after a taxi and a private car collided near Hong Kong Disneyland on Lantau Island on Saturday. Advertisement The incident occurred at an intersection on Magic Road at 2.21pm, when the driver of the Kowloon-bound private car attempted to make a right turn at a junction before hitting the taxi, which was en route to a hotel along the road, police said. All nine people sustained minor injuries and were sent to North Lantau Hospital for treatment, the force added. Five people, aged between 1 and 59, in the taxi were injured. The 59-year-old driver, surnamed Ma, reported experiencing head pain. All nine victims have been sent to North Lantau Hospital for treatment. They included a 43-year-old woman who suffered from neck pain, a 19-year-old woman with a headache, a 10-year-old boy with a thigh injury, and a one-year-old girl.
