Karnataka Home Minister requests construction of 'Welcome' arch on Tumkur highway
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 9 (ANI): Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday said that he has requested Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to give permission for the construction of a 'Welcome' arch on the National Highway in Tumkur.
Speaking to reporters at Sadashivanagar, Tumkur District in-charge Minister said that Rs 5 crore has been provided from the Smart City project to build the Welcome arch on the National Highway in Tumkur.
'Union Minister V Somanna is the MP of our district. I have requested Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari through V Somanna and asked him to give permission. If permission is given, we will build a welcome arch at the beginning of Tumkur,' Parameshwara said.
Parameshwara further added that many central projects need to be implemented in the district. 'Many projects related to drinking water come under the purview of the central government. Our taluk is included in this, and I have discussed it with them, he said.
He further added, 'Since Tumkur city is next to the national highway, no one will know while traveling. If a welcome arch is built, it will be known.'
According to Parameshwara, Union Minister Somanna will 'speak after seeing what the state government's decisions will be regarding the metro project' for Tumkur.
Parameshwara stressed on Tumkur's growth and said that the district should be expanded.
'We have made an industrial hub on 20 thousand acres. Many people are asking that Tumkur should be expanded. A study is underway on this. Tumkur is 70 km from Bangalore. It will be beneficial in terms of development if it is included in the Greater Bengaluru area. We will also submit a proposal,' he said.
While speaking on the Suhas Shetty murder case, Parameshwara said, 'Officials have told me that a letter has been received from the Union Home Department regarding the Suhas Shetty murder case. We will discuss this with the officials and take a decision. People from that area were talking about handing over the case to the NIA for investigation. Someone may have requested it. MPs and MLAs may have said so.'
Shetty, a prominent right-wing youth leader associated with the Bajrang Dal in Karnataka's coastal belt, was brutally murdered last month in Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada district. The activist, in his early 30s, was attacked by unidentified assailants while returning home late at night. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The incident triggered widespread protests in the region, with local Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) units alleging a targeted killing.
While speaking on the tragic stampede that occured during the IPL victory celebration event of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru, Parameshwara called the June 4 incident 'unfortunate' and said that an investigation is underway and the report will soon be submitted.
'I will not speak about the stampede incident. We have entrusted this case to the one-man commission of retired judge Michael D Cunha. He will investigate and submit a report. If we give a statement, it will have a different impact. If we are asked during the investigation, we will tell. If we give a statement now, the direction of the investigation will go in a different direction,' he remarked.
Earlier on Thursday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that a one-member commission has been formed to probe the incident.
CM Siddaramaiah also announced that the state government has decided to suspend top police department officials, including the Commissioner of Bengaluru City Police.
Speaking to the media, the Karnataka CM stated, 'Under the chairmanship of Justice Michael D'Cunha, a retired judge of the High Court, we have appointed a one-man commission to investigate the incident.'
He emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring accountability. (ANI)

NEW DELHI: The defence ministry will soon take up the case for a preliminary nod to a Rs 30,000 crore proposal to procure three regiments of the new indigenous quick reaction surface to air missile (QR-SAM) systems for the Army. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Rajnath Singh-led defence acquisitions council will consider granting acceptance of necessity (AoN) for the highly-mobile QR-SAM systems, which are designed to intercept hostile fighters, helicopters and drones at a range up to 25-30 km, later this month. The move comes soon after India's existing multi-layered air defence network played a crucial role in thwarting multiple waves of Turkish-origin drones and Chinese missiles launched by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor - the May 7-10 hostilities. The and the Army have over the last three-four years tested the QR-SAM systems against high-speed aerial targets mimicking various types of threats to evaluate their capability under different day and night operational scenarios. While the DRDO is also readying the very short-range air defence missile systems (VSHORADS), which have a 6 km interception range, the real game-changer will be an air defence system with a 350 km range being developed under the ambitious Project Kusha. Will oppose redevelopment project until everyone gets 500 sq ft houses in Dharavi: Aaditya Thackeray
Days after the state government approved the masterplan of Dharavi Slum Redevelopment Project, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Monday said his party would oppose the project until and unless all residents are guaranteed 500sqft homes in Dharavi and all the residents are declared eligible for free rehabilitation. Thackeray also demanded that the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Dharavi be granted the same status as Gujarat's GIFT City, claiming that Mumbai was being sidelined in favour of Gujarat and GIFT city was moved to Gujarat from Mumbai's BKC. Addressing a rally in Mulund, Thackeray alleged that the redevelopment plan would lead to large-scale displacement and benefit private players at the expense of long-time Dharavi residents. 'Our party's stand is very clear.. Every resident of Dharavi must get a 500 sqft house. If all residents are not made eligible, we will not allow them to be moved out of Dharavi,' said Thackeray at the 'Ladha Aaplya Mumbaicha' (fight for our Mumbai) campaign organised by the Sena UBT ahead of the BMC elections. Thackeray added that the current plan recognizes only those who settled before 2000 while many with documents dated after 2011 are likely to be excluded from rehabilitation and free houses in Dharavi. According to the eligibility criteria, for people to get homes, ground-floor residents who settled in Dharavi before January 1, 2000, will be eligible for a 350sqft home within Dharavi at no cost. Those who settled between January 1, 2000, and January 1, 2011, will receive a 300sqft home outside Dharavi at a cost of Rs 2.5 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Residents who live in upper-floor structures built before November 15, 2022, and ground-floor tenements constructed between January 1, 2011, and November 15, 2022, will be offered rented accommodations outside Dharavi. These residents will also have the option of a hire-purchase scheme for 300 sqft homes. At the rally, Thackeray also raised objections to the proposed use of Deonar dumping ground and other land parcels given for the Dharavi redevelopment project. 'The BMC had clearly stated that the land cannot be given unless it is cleaned first. It is not suitable for people to live there,' he said. He also criticised the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, questioning why the route was designed to benefit Gujarat rather than linking Mumbai to other parts of Maharashtra.

Pack of sweets with cash: Rajasthan minister alleges bribery attempt by teacher
Rajasthan's school education minister, Madan Dilawar, has alleged that a government school teacher tried to bribe him, seeking a position on the curriculum writing committee during a public hearing at his said that the incident occurred earlier in the morning at his official residence while he was preparing for a visit to Ramgarh.
