Industrial parks will be set up in AP: Piyush
Guntur: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said the Centre and State governments will jointly set up industrial parks in the state. Along with the Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, he conducted a review meeting on National Industrial Corridor Development at the Tobacco Board office here on Sunday.
Later, addressing the media, he said industrial parks set up in the state will benefit 1.6 crore families and generate employment opportunities. He urged the farmers not to cultivate tobacco more than limit and added that during the last four years, tobacco farmers got better prices and their income doubled. He assured that he will take steps to solve the problems of the tobacco farmers and expressed satisfaction over the meeting held with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on industrial development and exports promotion. He said they had discussed tourism promotion.
He discussed with the Tobacco Board officials on how to extend helping hand to the Burley tobacco farmers who suffered losses due to falling prices. He directed the board officials to take up skill development programmes with reputed institutes for the children of tobacco farmers and teach French, Japanese and German languages.
Minister for R&B and Infrastructure BC Janardhan Reddy, Tobacco Board chairman Chirupothu Yashwant and others were present.

Anganwadis seek extension of welfare schemes to them
Anganwadi workers and Helpers staged a protest, on the call given by the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, an affiliate of the CITU, at the Gandhi statue near GVMC and placed a memorandum at the feet of the Mahatma, on Monday, demanding implementation of government welfare schemes. The other demands include: stop showing them as 'government employees' in the official record as they were only being paid a honorarium. Demanding an immediate response from the government to their demands, Union leader K. Venkata Lakshmi said that the wages of the Anganwadis were not hiked for the past six years though the prices of essential commodities were skyrocketing. She said that the Anganwadis were living a hand-to-mouth existence with their wages remaining stagnant and prices spiralling. She sought that the government should recognise the services of the Anganwadi workers and helpers and extend the benefit of welfare schemes like Thalliki Vandanam, pensions, rice cards and housing to them. Union honorary secretary Mani, honorary advisor Brundavathi, district general secretary Devi, treasurer K. Padmavathi, district leaders Sridevi, Satyavathi, Begum, Sivalakshmi, Venkatalakshmi and Durga were among those who participated.

Census In India- File image New Delhi: In a significant development for the country, the Union Home Ministry led by Amit Shah issued the official notification for conducting the population census in the country. Most importantly, the 2027 Census will include humongous data collection, including the caste details, will be conducted in two phases, where the first phase will cover the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and two hilly states — Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand — beginning on October 1, 2026 and the second phase will start on March 1, 2027. Home Ministry notification As per a report carried by IANS news agency, the Home Ministry notification issued under Section 3 of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948), said, 'A census of the population shall be undertaken during the year 2027. Reference date for 2027 India Census The report also talks about the reference date of the census will shall be 00.00 hours of March 1, 2027, except for the Union territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. 'In respect of the Union territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the reference date shall be 00:00 hours of October 1, 2026,' it added. 2027 Census and Caste Data Notably, this is the first time that caste enumeration will be made part of the mammoth Census exercise. The Centre, in a recent cabinet meeting, had given clearance for caste enumeration in the Census, reasoning that it would enable the Central government to frame policies with better precision and also make it target-oriented. Congress vs BJP on Caste Census The green light for caste-based Census also stirred political fight as the Congress claimed that the Modi government was forced to include its idea of social justice and social empowerment. British carmaker JLR trims FY26 margin forecast on US tariff concern
British luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover lowered its fiscal 2026 earnings before interest and taxes margins forecast to 5 per cent -7 per cent on Monday from 10 per cent earlier, amid uncertainty in the global auto industry as US tariffs loom. Shares in the company's Indian parent Tata Motors slumped as much as 5.2 per cent in early trade following the announcement. The revised EBIT margin forecast is also below JLR's reported 8.5 per cent margin for the previous fiscal year ended March 31. JLR added it sees free cash flow of close to zero in fiscal 2026. The company, which derives over quarter of its sales from the US, had temporarily paused shipments to the country after President Donald Trump slapped a 25 per cent duty on all foreign-made vehicles sold in the world's second-largest car market. The 'Defender' sport utility vehicle maker said it is re-allocating available units to "accessible markets", to boost profits. It added that it continues to engage with both the US and UK governments regarding a trade deal signed in May, which allows the UK to export 100,000 cars a year to the US at a 10 per cent tariff, below the 25 per cent levy for other nations. While JLR's " Range Rover " SUV lineup is manufactured in the UK, the popular "Defender" is made in Slovakia, a member of the European Union, which does not yet have a trade pact with the Trump administration. The carmaker said it is assessing pricing actions in the US to help offset the tariff impact. Analysts have said JLR may be less affected by the increased costs associated with the tariffs, thanks to a wealthier customer base that is unlikely to be deterred by a bigger price tag. However, Tata Motors remains among the most exposed Indian automakers to the US duties, as JLR lacks local manufacturing in the country, unlike most of its rivals, including German brands Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
