Dibrugarh civic body launches traffic management training for enforcement squad

Dibrugarh: The Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC), in collaboration with the Dibrugarh traffic police, launched a comprehensive traffic management training programme on Friday to enhance the skills of its newly formed 22-member enforcement squad.
The initiative aims to improve traffic regulation, public safety, and overall civic mobility across the town.
The training programme includes onsite sessions at key traffic points, crowded market areas, and major intersections, where squad members will learn updated traffic rules, enforcement protocols, and conflict resolution techniques. The squad, recently formed by the DMC, will play a crucial role in managing Dibrugarh's growing traffic challenges.
Dibrugarh Mayor Saikat Patra emphasised the importance of the initiative, stating, "With increasing vehicular movement and urban expansion, efficient traffic management has become a priority. This training will equip our enforcement squad with the necessary skills to ensure smoother traffic flow and better public compliance with regulations."
Traffic Police officials, who are instructors in the programme, highlighted the need for strict yet courteous enforcement.

"The collaboration between DMC and traffic police will create a unified approach to traffic management. Our officers are sharing decades of experience with the municipal enforcement squad, covering everything from basic traffic rules to advanced enforcement strategies. The squad will not only enforce rules but also assist in educating the public on road safety. Their presence at critical junctions will help reduce congestion and accidents," a traffic official said.
The training covers practical scenarios, including handling violations, managing pedestrian crossings, and coordinating with traffic signals.
The DMC plans to deploy the squad across the town within the next few days, with periodic evaluations to ensure effectiveness. The corporation is also considering introducing advanced traffic management technologies to support the human resources being developed through this initiative.

The March earthquake in Myanmar figured among the major natural disasters in the first six months of the year, with the tremors felt in neighbouring Thailand, India, and China. In Thailand alone, insured losses reached $1.5 billion. Overall, while natural disasters caused $135 billion in economic losses in the first half of 2025, man-made disasters -- which include industrial accidents -- caused another $8 billion in losses, of which $7 billion were insured losses.

Honda's first-quarter profit hit by tariffs, but lifts annual outlook
Japanese car giant Honda said Wednesday its net profit halved in the first quarter because of US tariffs , but upgraded its annual profit forecast after Tokyo finally hammered out a trade deal with Washington.
