Peck & Choose: Five GIB chicks named after Op Sindoor heroes

Jaisalmer: In a symbolic tribute to the heroes of Operation Sindoor , the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in Jaisalmer has named five Great Indian Bustard (GIB) chicks after key figures and elements of the military operation. This initiative not only honours the valour of Indian forces but also highlights the intersection of national defence and wildlife conservation. Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian govt, targeted terrorist hideouts in Pakistan, showcasing India's strategic, technological, and female power. In recognition of this, the GIB chicks born during the operation at the Sudasari and Ramdevra breeding and conservation centres have been named Sindoor, Atom, Mishri, Vyom, and Sophia. Deputy Conservator of Forests at Desert National Park, B M Gupta, explained the significance of these names. The chick named Sindoor, born on May 5, represents the entire military campaign. Atom, born on May 9, symbolises the strategic strength of the operation. Mishri, born on May 19, pays tribute to an intelligence officer known for countering cyber-espionage. Vyom, born on May 23, is inspired by Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, who led the official media briefing for the operation. Lastly, Sophia, born on May 24, honours Colonel Sophia Qureshi, a symbol of female leadership in the Indian Army . Senior Scientist and GIB Project Coordinator in Jaisalmer, Suthirtho Dutta, emphasised that these names serve as an emotional bridge between wildlife and national defence. "These chicks now embody the values of determination, courage, and service that the nation's forces fight for," he stated. The joint efforts of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, WII, and the state govt have been instrumental in the conservation of this endangered species. Through advanced AI technology, precise incubation, and the dedication of WII and forest officials, the number of GIB chicks in Jaisalmer is on the rise. This initiative not only preserves the GIB but also keeps the spirit of Operation Sindoor alive, linking the legacy of national defence with the conservation of India's natural heritage. Delhi Confidential: Mission Possible

Most multi-party delegations sent abroad as part of India's diplomatic outreach after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor are back in the Capital, but they have not been able to go back to their states. The MPs after their return have had meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during which they are learnt to have candidly expressed their views on what needs to be done. Jaishankar, sources said, was happy that every delegation accomplished their mission without any major hitches. The MPs are now waiting for their meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is likely to be held on June 10, sources said. Film Festival Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale was in New York this week as one of the guests to inaugurate the Indie Film Festival Awards. The event, organised by producer Mukesh Modi, was also attended by New York's Mayor Eric Adams, Indian Consul General in New York Binay S Pradhan and Prasar Bharati chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal. Athawale is known to be a film enthusiast. He also acted in a Marathi film — Anyayacha Pratikaar — in 1993 and did a cameo in another Marathi movie — Joshi ki Kamble — in 2008. More Statues WITH AN eye on 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday promised that when his party will come to power in the state, a statue of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj sitting on a 'golden chair' will be installed at the Gomti riverfront. He made the promise at a function organised by the SP to mark the anniversary of the Maratha King's coronation. Earlier last month, he had promised to install the statue of Raja Suheldev at the same Gomti riverfront. He also promised that the sword in the hand of the Shravasti King will be made of 'ashtadhatu (alloy made of eight metals) mixed with gold'. Akhilesh's promises of installing statues has surprised many in the party as SP leaders in the past were critical of former CM Mayawati's decisions of building memorials and installing marble statues in Lucknow and Noida.

Gujarat Congress general secy held over post on Opration Sindoor

The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary, Rajesh Soni, was on Friday arrested by the Gujarat Police Cyber Crime Cell over an alleged objectionable social media post on Operation Sindoor, officials said even as GPCC president Shaktisinh Gohil criticised the move. According to police officials, Soni allegedly made disparaging statements about the Armed Forces in his post. Cyber Crime Cell Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Sharma told The Indian Express, 'Soni was booked under BNS Sections 152 (endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India) and 353 (making, publishing or circulating statements that could lead to public mischief) for demoralising the army.' SP Sharma confirmed that earlier in the day, Soni was detained from his home in Ahmedabad and subsequently placed under arrest. He was produced before court, which then sent him to judicial custody. Demanding 'immediate bail' from Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for 'social leader and political activist' Rajeshbhai T Soni, GPCC president Shaktisinh Gohil said, 'Last night, just like a terrorist is being caught, Rajeshbhai T Soni was arrested by Gandhinagar Cyber Crime. If we look at the post, the only thing that is clear is that the soldiers of our brave army should get credit for the bravery they have shown and the money from the public treasury should not be used for publicity and … political gains should not be taken in the name of Operation Sindoor.' Soni had uploaded around three to four posts on social media platforms on Operation Sindoor. 'This has been in the minds of all the citizens of the country that the credit for the brave work done by our army should go to them. Seeing the way the government is doing publicity, they have expressed their concern that the soldiers will not get credit. If they only raise their voice for the army or express their concern that they will not get credit, how can it be a crime?' Gohil said. He further said, 'The Supreme Court recently took note of the government's policy of filing cases through misuse of the Gujarat Police and severely criticised the police. I hope the police use wisdom…Rajeshbhai Soni is not a terrorist… he should be released immediately. The entire country and Congress are on the side of the army.' Gohil also put out his statement on the microblogging site X, saying: 'The whole country and the Congress are in favor of the army. If it is a crime to take the side of the army only, then all the Congress workers including me will post and raise their voices in favor of the army. if they have courage, then the government should put all of us in jail.' Gohil's post tagging Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi, Gujarat Police stated, 'When late Manmohan Singh ji was the Prime Minister, many BJP leaders and supporters used to write false things at will, but the Congress government at the Centre or the states did not try to curb the fundamental freedom of expression or register a case' Gohil demanded immediate bail for the political functionary.
