Elmo's X account gets hacked, posts antisemitic and racist messages
The Sunday posts, which have been deleted, called for violence against Jews, insulted President Donald Trump and demanded the release of government files on accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged clientele.
Elmo, a cheerful red Muppet, has more than 650,000 followers on X.
"Elmo's X account was briefly compromised by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts," Sesame Workshop said in a statement, adding the account has since been secured.
X came under scrutiny last week when the account of the Grok chatbot developed by billionaire Elon Musk's company xAI produced content with antisemitic tropes. The posts were subsequently removed and called "inappropriate" by Grok's X account.
Since Musk bought what was then known as Twitter in 2022, he has cut back on moderation. Extremist content has increased, causing some advertisers to pull away from the platform.

Ukraine says Russian strikes kills three in the east
Find out what's new on ST website and app. A man riding a bicycle beneath anti-drone nets in Orikhiv, in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, on July 15. KYIV - A combined Russian strike on the afternoon of July 15 killed three people in eastern Ukraine, local authorities said, after US President Donald Trump gave Moscow 50 days to reach a peace deal with Ukraine. Russia has been stepping up its summer offensive campaign as Washington-mediated ceasefire talks stall, claiming more ground in eastern Ukraine while pounding it with combined drone, artillery and missile strikes. 'Two dead and two injured: law enforcement officers recorded the consequences of another enemy attack in the Kupiansk district,' the Kharkiv region prosecutor's office said on social media, adding that the victims were 67 and 69 years old. Regional authorities in Sumy said a 50-year-old local resident had died after 'the enemy fired artillery at the outskirts of the Velykopysarivska community'. Elsewhere on the front line, Russian forces claimed two more villages in the Donetsk region, increasing the pace of their advance. A Ukrainian drone attack on Russia's western city of Voronezh wounded 27 people, local officials claimed on July 15. Mr Trump said he had struck a deal with Nato to supply American air defence systems and weapons to Ukraine and threatened Russia with tariffs and sanctions, as he grows frustrated with Russian leader Vladimir Putin for rejecting a ceasefire and instead intensifying attacks. Roblox launches IP licensing platform, partners with Netflix, Lionsgate
Roblox launched a licensing feature on its videogame platform on Tuesday, allowing intellectual property holders to integrate their characters and worlds into its games. It has signed licensing partnerships with companies such as Netflix, which would allow developers to use characters and names from the streaming giant's popular shows "Stranger Things" and "Squid Game" in their games. Other licensing partners include Lionsgate, Sega and Japanese publisher Kodansha. Roblox has been aggressively trying to grab a larger share of the videogame market and expand its revenue sources by diversifying beyond gaming and turning the platform into a hub for socializing, commerce and advertising. Introducing a platform for licensing property with popular characters and names from highly recognizable media could draw more people to its games, which appeal to a large cohort of Gen Z users. "We have a goal to have 10 per cent of all gaming content revenue flowing through the Roblox ecosystem and benefiting our community," said Manuel Bronstein, chief product officer at Roblox. "This will require having a wide range of experiences and giving creators the opportunity to partner with rights holders of the most recognizable IP," he said. Roblox had previously worked with media companies such as Warner Bros Discovery, launching special advertising campaigns and games around a specific property to drive consumer engagement. The License Manager would enable rights holders to register and create licenses, offering them quickly to creators in days or hours rather than months, Roblox said. The company also plans to onboard more IP holders throughout the year and aims to open the License Manager to all eligible IP holders in the coming months. It is even exploring additional license types.

Unreleased Beyonce music stolen during Cowboy Carter tour
Unreleased music by Beyonce along with footage, show plans and concert set lists were stolen from a car in Atlanta rented by the singer's choreographer and one of her dancers, according to a police incident report. The theft of the materials, stored on five thumb drives, happened on Jul 8, two days before Beyonce began a four-day residency at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Beyonce was set to take the stage Monday evening for her last night in the city. The Atlanta Police Department said in a news release Monday (Jul 14) it has secured an arrest warrant for a suspect whose identity was withheld. Two MacBook laptops, Apple headphones, as well as luxury clothing and accessories were also reported stolen, according to the incident report. Beyonce's choreographer, Christopher Grant, and dancer Diandre Blue told police they parked their rental car, a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, at a food hall in the city at about 8.09pm. The pair returned to the car just after 9pm to discover the trunk window had been damaged and two suitcases had been taken. Grant told officers that 'he was also carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyonce', the police incident report stated. The report identifies a possible suspect vehicle as a 2025 red Hyundai Elantra. Responding officers were able to identify 'light prints' at the scene, and security cameras in the parking lot captured the incident, according to the report. Officers canvassed an area where the stolen laptop and headphones were tracked by using the devices' location services, the report stated. Beyonce kicked off her highly-anticipated tour in late April, taking her Grammy-winning album, Cowboy Carter, to stadiums in the US and Europe. The singer will end her tour with two Las Vegas nights in late July.
