New Delhi, Aug 19 (PTI) Total assets under management of Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) have grown to nearly USD 94 billion in the last fiscal year from USD 42.1 billion in 2019-20, according to Knight Frank.
In its report released on Tuesday, real estate consultant Knight Frank India said there are five REITs and 17 InvITs listed on the stock exchanges.
The total Assets Under Management (AUM) of InvITs in India have reached USD 73.3 billion in the 2024-25 fiscal year, while the AUM of REITs touched USD 20.6 billion.
'Combined AUM of REITs and InvITS have grown to USD 93.9 billion in FY25 from USD 42.1 billion in FY20," the report said. The combined market capitalisation stood at USD 33.2 billion as on July 31, 2025.
The consultant said InvITs are set to play an increasingly important role in financing the country's infrastructure ambitions. It projected that the AUM of InvIT has the potential to reach USD 258 billion by 2030.
This growth is expected to be driven by higher allocations from institutional investors, increased participation of domestic pension and insurance funds, expanded foreign investment, and rising awareness among retail investors, it added.
REITs and InvITs are investment vehicles that allow investors to invest in real estate and infrastructure assets, respectively, without owning the physical property. PTI MJH TRB TRB

Apple Begins iPhone 17 Production in India Ahead of Global Launch

Apple has quietly started manufacturing its upcoming iPhone 17 in India, marking another big step in its efforts to diversify production beyond China. According to reports, Foxconn has begun assembling units at its new Bengaluru facility, months before the official launch event. This development signals Apple's growing reliance on India as both a manufacturing hub and a consumer market. The Bengaluru plant, located in Devanahalli, is Foxconn's second-largest facility outside China and was built with an investment of nearly USD 2.8 billion (around Rs 25,000 crore). Production is still on a limited scale, with engineers from Taiwan and other regions fine-tuning processes. Alongside this, Foxconn's Chennai unit is also engaged in building the new iPhone models, ensuring multiple supply sources from India. Over the past two years, Apple has significantly scaled up its India operations. For the financial year ending March 31, 2025, the company manufactured iPhones worth USD 22 billion, reflecting a sharp 60 percent growth from the previous year. CEO Tim Cook even confirmed that a majority of iPhones sold in the US during the June quarter were sourced from India. This underlines the country's rising importance in Apple's global supply chain. Apple is not slowing down. Industry insiders suggest the company aims to ramp up production to 60 million iPhones this year, a steep rise compared to the 35–40 million units produced last year. Exports from India are also expected to double as Apple works to meet rising demand in the US and other global markets. On the consumer front, Apple's sales in India are steadily improving. Shipments grew more than 21 percent in the first half of 2025, totaling 5.9 million units. The iPhone 16 was the top-selling model, helping Apple register nearly 20 percent higher shipments in the June quarter compared to last year. However, Apple still trails rivals like Vivo, which led the Indian smartphone market with a 19 percent share, while Apple captured 7.5 percent. The buzz now shifts to Apple's much-awaited September launch event. If timelines align, Apple will announce the event date on August 26, with the grand unveiling scheduled for September 9. Pre-orders are expected to begin on September 12, and the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max could hit stores globally, including India, on September 19. Ahead of this, the iOS 26 update is likely to roll out on September 16 for existing iPhone users. As always, Apple's September showcase will feature more than just iPhones. The company is tipped to introduce the Apple Watch Series 11, Watch Ultra 3, new AirPods Pro, a refreshed Apple TV 4K, and possibly the third-generation HomePod. Another October event will likely spotlight new Macs and iPads powered by the M5 chip. When it comes to pricing, the base iPhone 17 is expected to start at around Rs 79,999 in India, while the iPhone 17 Air may be priced at Rs 89,999. The Pro models could see a price increase due to higher production costs and possible tariffs in the US. While Apple kept the iPhone 16 Pro lineup slightly more affordable last year, all eyes are now on how the brand balances pricing with the significant upgrades expected this year. US tariff will have no impact on NALCO, company eyeing UK market: CMD

Agency: Bhubaneswar, Aug 19 (PTI) Asserting that the recent tariff hike by the US will have no impact on its business, the National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) on Tuesday said it is focusing on the trade with the United Kingdom which has zero duty. Addressing a press conference here, NALCO chairman-cum-managing director Brijendra Pratap Singh said the company's standalone net profit soared 77 per cent to Rs 1,064 crore in the first quarter of the current financial year as against Rs 601 crore recorded in Q1 of last year. Revenue from operations stood at Rs 3,807 crore in the first quarter of FY 25-26, he added. 'The UK has a strong market for electric vehicles and solar panel manufacturing, both of which rely heavily on aluminium. This presents a significant opportunity for us to expand our presence in the country," Singh added. 'The US tariff hike will in no way impact the business of Nalco. Rather, we are exploring the opportunities in the UK, which has zero duty," the CMD said. In the first quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal, NALCO registered the highest-ever domestic sale of alumina and aluminium, supported by a robust growth in both domestic and export markets, he said. He added that the company plans to start operations of its Pottangi bauxite mines in Odisha's Koraput district by June next. 'Geo-tendering for Pottangi bauxite mines will be awarded by September or October this year and the mines are expected to be made operations by June next," he added. The mining block, spread over 697.979 hectares, has an annual production capacity of 3.5 million tonnes and has reserves estimated at 111 million tonnes. NALCO estimates to invest Rs 1,961 crore to operationalise the mine, Asutosh Rath, a senior executive of the company, said. Currently, NALCO operates the Panchpatmali bauxite mines with a capacity of 7.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to feed its 2.1 MTPA alumina refinery at Damanjodi and its 0.46 MTPA aluminium smelter with a 1,200 MW captive power plant at Angul. With India's aluminium consumption projected to reach 7.5-8 MTPA by 2030, NALCO has also prepared an expansion plan to play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand and reinforcing its leadership in the global aluminium sector, Singh said. The CMD also informed about the Rs 34,600 crore expansion plan of the company, which is expected to materialise by 2030. 'Out of this proposed investment, the company will spend over Rs 5,600 crore on the expansion of the fifth stream alumina refinery of 1 MTPA capacity at Damanjodi in Koraput district, over Rs 17,000 crore on expansion of aluminium smelter plant at Angul district (0.5 MTPA) and Rs 12,000 crore on constriction of captive power plant of 1080 MW, he said. The DPR for the expansion projects would be prepared by the third quarter of FY-26 and would be placed for the approval of the Board of Directors, Singh informed. At present, the central PSU has an alumina refinery of 2.1 MTPA capacity at Damanjodi in Koraput district, aluminium smelter of 0.46 MTPA in Angul and 1200 MW captive power plant. UP govt to use AI for transparent, error-free welfare schemes

Agency: Last Updated: Lucknow, Aug 19 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government is set to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make social welfare schemes more effective, transparent and free from irregularities, an official statement said. The Social Welfare Department is moving towards technologically strengthening the monitoring of key welfare schemes such as old age pension, family benefit, scholarships and mass marriages, the statement issued on Monday said. This initiative aims not only to ensure that benefits reach the rightful beneficiaries but also to make administrative processes faster, paperless and more accountable, it added. To eliminate any scope of irregularities, the department is considering the adoption of an AI-based monitoring system. Recently, a special workshop on the theme 'Use of AI in Social Welfare Schemes' was organised in the presence of Social Welfare Minister (Independent Charge) Asim Arun. With the help of AI, accuracy will be ensured in data verification, beneficiary identification and scheme implementation, the statement said, adding this will help curb malpractices and guarantee that benefits reach genuine beneficiaries on time. The department has already strengthened online monitoring to promote transparency and ease in schemes such as the Scholarship Scheme, National Family Benefit Scheme and Old Age Pension. In the scholarship scheme, students will no longer have to undergo repeated registrations, as a one-time registration number system has been introduced. This not only saves time but also ensures that eligible beneficiaries receive uninterrupted benefits. The integration of AI will further enhance accuracy, prevent fraudulent applications and deliver benefits swiftly, the statement said. Through data analytics, only genuine beneficiaries will be able to access the schemes, while AI-driven verification will speed up application processing and instantly flag fraudulent submissions, it said. The shift to a paperless system will reduce unnecessary paperwork and speed up implementation. AI-driven technology will bring transformational improvements in data management, beneficiary verification and scheme monitoring, officials said. Along with simplifying the administrative procedures, it will also strengthen public trust in the government, they added.
