Maharashtra medical admissions: first round of seat allotment announced for UG courses
The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell seat allotment results for the first round of centralised medical admissions for undergraduate (UG) courses for the state quota seats witnessed a significant drop in cut-off scores for MBBS admissions in both government and private medical colleges. In government medical colleges, the cut-off score for MBBS admissions has fallen to 509 marks, down from 642 marks in the first round last year. In private medical colleges, the cut-off has dropped to 479, against 602 marks in 2024. Candidates, however, highlighted that this was an anticipated drop in the cut-off score due to the overall lower National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for Undergraduate (UG) scores this year — unlike the inflated scoring patterns observed last year. One candidate pointed out that there was score inflation in NEET UG last year due to a combination of factors. 'Unlike last year, when many students scored unusually high marks, this year's NEET UG results showed significantly lower scores. So, a drop in cut-off was expected. But this drop is still quite significant,' the candidate said. However, a parent representative Sudha Shenoy pointed out that this is a very low cut-off score in the past few years, especially in government medical colleges (GMC). 'Generally, private medical colleges would have a cut-off score around 509 for the first round of seat allotment. But this year, the same score is enough for a GMC seat in the first round,' said Shenoy. She attributed the change to a more streamlined admission process without any pending approvals for colleges or seats, this year. 'Last year there was chaos due to pending approvals for seats, despite inclusion of those seats in the seat matrix,' she said. As per the seat allotment for the first round of medical UG admissions by the Maharashtra CET Cell, a total of 10,815 candidates were allotted seats in this round, including 8,106 for MBBS and 2,709 for BDS. Students have until August 22 to confirm admission on their allotted seats. The total number of UG medical seats under the state quota stands at 10,856, comprising 8,138 MBBS seats and 2,718 BDS seats.
