Jordan's aviation authority updates drone rules to boost tech innovation and economic growth
Ammon News - In an effort to modernise its airspace framework and accelerate technological progress, Jordan's Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) has announced updated regulations for the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones. The new rules, effective from 2025, are designed to support both innovation and economic development across various sectors.
Building on the Civil Aviation Law of 2007, the revised guidelines aim to streamline licensing, manufacturing, and operational processes for drones, establishing a clear legal and security structure that safeguards national interests while enabling economic opportunities.
The updated framework permits drone usage in diverse fields such as tourism promotion, agricultural surveillance, logistics, and delivery services. It also introduces licensing pathways for drone production, sales, and maintenance — creating new investment prospects for both domestic and international stakeholders.
Industry experts view this development as a significant stride toward realising Jordan's ambition of a digitally advanced economy. The ICT sector is expected to be a central driver of employment and economic expansion.
This initiative aligns with the Crown Prince's vision for digital transformation and the broader goals of the Economic Modernisation Vision, which aims to generate JD3.9 billion in ICT revenue, create 101,000 new tech jobs, and reach JD4.5 billion in exports by 2033.
CARC emphasised that the new regulations will stimulate job creation in manufacturing, logistics, maintenance, and training, while nurturing a vibrant startup ecosystem. Integrating drones into sectors such as agriculture and infrastructure is also anticipated to improve operational efficiency and cut costs, especially in large-scale monitoring and surveying projects.
Overall, the new policy is expected to reshape Jordan's drone industry, attract investment, and offer safe and flexible operating standards — ultimately contributing to the Kingdom's economic resilience and digital evolution.

Jordan, Morocco discuss economic cooperation
Ammon News - The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and Morocco's ambassador to Jordan, Fouad Akhrif, held a meeting to explore ways to enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, citing the need for stronger institutional coordination and greater engagement between their private sectors. According to a statement by the Chamber, Chairman Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq emphasized the strength of Jordanian-Moroccan relations and called for the development of deeper economic ties. He said current trade volumes do not reflect the potential of the bilateral relationship and pointed to limited delegation exchanges and coordination between chambers of commerce as key obstacles. Al-Haj Tawfiq proposed activating communication channels, improving the flow of investment and trade information, and establishing continuous networking platforms between the two business communities. He announced an agreement with Moroccan Member of Parliament Khadija Hajoubi to host an exhibition of traditional Moroccan crafts and products in Amman later this year. A twinning arrangement is also planned between the Amman Chamber of Commerce and the chamber in the Fès-Meknès region. He added that the Chamber is prepared to support Moroccan companies seeking entry into the Jordanian market and encouraged joint private-sector participation in reconstruction projects in Syria. He also described Morocco as a key gateway for Jordanian companies seeking access to African markets. Al-Haj Tawfiq stressed the importance of streamlined visa procedures and closer cooperation with the Moroccan Embassy to facilitate business travel and joint trade events. Ambassador Akhrif acknowledged the strength of political ties between Jordan and Morocco but noted that economic relations remain underdeveloped by comparison. He urged both sides to intensify efforts to realize their economic potential, citing Morocco's ongoing development across sectors. He proposed holding a business forum in Morocco to bring together companies from both countries, focusing on promising sectors that could support trade and investment partnerships. Akhrif also highlighted Morocco's investment opportunities and encouraged Jordanian businesses to leverage existing bilateral agreements and participate in trade missions. Chamber board members emphasized the need to implement and update bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding, noting that deeper cooperation could lead to expanded trade, greater diversification of exchanged goods, and stronger collaboration in tourism, transportation, and logistics. They welcomed the planned resumption of direct flights between the two countries later this year, which they said would improve business mobility. However, they noted that the current sea freight route is inefficient due to its length and called for the development of faster, more reliable transport links.

Jordan approves import of electrical appliances, food from Syria
Ammon News - Jordan has approved the import of a number of industrial products from Syria, easing earlier restrictions by allowing their entry under official import licenses. The decision, issued by Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, went into effect on May 7 and involves the exemption of specific tariff lines from a previous ban. These items have now been added to the list of goods requiring import licenses under Decision No. 9. The newly permitted items include household appliances and food-processing equipment such as electric table, floor, wall, window, and ceiling fans with motors up to 125 watts, electric hair dryers, meat and poultry preparation machines, and household food grinders, blenders, and fruit or vegetable juicers with built-in electric motors. Also approved for import are date molasses, machines used for cleaning, sorting, or grading agricultural produce such as eggs and fruits, and devices for processing fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Medical, surgical, and laboratory sterilization equipment were also included. In the food category, the list includes temporarily preserved olives not fit for direct consumption, various non-frozen, homogenized vegetables prepared or preserved without vinegar, acetic acid, or sugar, as well as temporarily preserved cucumbers, gherkins, and other similar produce.
