AB de Villiers has named Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting and Virat Kohli as his top batters and Mohammad Asif, Dale Steyn and Glenn McGrath as his top bowlers.
Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers has said that among all-format batters, his top favourites are compatriot Jacques Kallis, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting and his friend and former Royal Challengers Bengaluru teammate Virat Kohli.
While cross-era comparisons often spark intense debate, they are subjective and can lead to unexpected conclusions.
After weighing the merits of Windies legend Brian Lara, De Villiers finalised a trio of modern and past greats for his list of top batters.
The bowlers' list drew even more intrigue as De Villiers picked a blend of raw pace, pinpoint accuracy and masterful swing.

One big miss on De Villiers' list was batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who remains the highest run-scorer across formats, as well as Kumar Sangakkara, who is second on that list.
Kohli is the third-highest run-scorer across formats, with 27599 runs in 550 matches at a stunning average of 52.27. Ponting, on the other hand, finished with 27483 runs in 560 matches with an average of 45.95 and a whopping 71 hundreds to his name.
In the bowlers list too, De Villiers ignored Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, James Anderson and former India cricketer Anil Kumble.
McGrath is the fifth-highest wicket-taker across formats in history, with 949 wickets in 376 matches at an impressive economy of 2.93.

Sourav Ganguly Offers Advise To Gautam Gambhir: 'Pick The Right Attack, Play...'

Last Updated: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly advised head coach Gautam Gambhir to play spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the final Test against England at The Oval. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly advised head coach Gautam Gambhir to play spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the fifth and final Test of the series against England at The Oval. India's determined fightback in the fourth Test at Old Trafford secured a draw for the visitors on the final day. With England leading the five-match series 2-1, the former India captain is confident that the visiting team can win the series finale by choosing the 'right bowling attack" and maintaining their batting momentum. 'I advise Gambhir to play Kuldeep Yadav in the fifth Test and pick the right bowling attack. If we continue to bat like this, we can win at The Oval," Ganguly told IANS. Reflecting on India's batting performance in Manchester, Ganguly noted that after such an outstanding display, the team must be contemplating their Lord's result, where they lost by 22 runs chasing a modest target of 193. 'This is a young team, we have to give them some time as the team is rebuilding. The way they batted in the fourth innings yesterday, scoring more than 400 runs, India will feel bad that they lost the Lord's Test. They batted very well on the fifth day in Manchester; the 190 should have been achieved at Lord's," the former left-handed batter said. 'After a long time, many Indian batters have scored significant runs in an overseas Test series. This is something that pleases me and is a positive sign for Indian cricket. These young players will represent the country for a long time, and their performances in England will surely boost their confidence. If we improve our bowling, we can win at The Oval," Ganguly added. The veteran cricketer further praised wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for his consistent performance on the tour. Pant, who sustained a right foot fracture in the fourth Test, has been ruled out of the final Test of the series. 'He is a very good Test player. He is injured, and his foot was fractured; he will take time to recover. He has batted brilliantly in the series," Ganguly said of Pant. 'India played good cricket and saved the Test match after batting for more than 140 overs. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar played very well," the southpaw added. The fifth and final Test of the series will be played at The Oval in London starting Thursday. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Canada's Summer McIntosh Wins Second Gold At World Swimming Championships, Eyes Historic Run

Summer McIntosh won her second gold at the World Championships in Singapore, taking the 200m medley. The 18-year-old Canadian aims to win five individual titles. Swimming sensation Summer McIntosh captured her second gold medal in as many days on Monday, winning the 200m individual medley at the World Championships in Singapore. The 18-year-old Canadian touched the wall in 2 minutes, 06.69 seconds, ahead of Alex Walsh of the United States (2:08.58) and fellow Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey (2:09.15). Just missing out on a podium finish was 12-year-old Chinese prodigy Yu Zidi, who placed fourth with a time of 2:09.21. Yu had burst off the blocks fastest and was in medal position through the early stages but faded slightly in the final stretch. Red-Hot McIntosh Eyes Historic Championship Run McIntosh arrived in Singapore in exceptional form, having already won the 400m freestyle on Sunday's opening day of competition. She now sets her sights on joining swimming legend Michael Phelps as the only athletes to win five individual titles at a single world championships. The reigning Olympic champion and world record holder entered the 200m medley as the overwhelming favorite, having shattered Katinka Hosszu's decade-old world record earlier this year. At the Canadian trials in June, McIntosh posted a blazing time of 2:05.70, rewriting the record books. She also broke her own 400m medley world record during those trials, marking her third world record in just a matter of days. McIntosh emerged as one of the biggest stars at the Paris Olympics last year, winning three gold medals, including a double in the 200m and 400m medley events. In Singapore, her campaign is far from over. She is still scheduled to compete in the 400m individual medley, 200m butterfly, and 800m freestyle—events that could further cement her place among the sport's all-time greats.
