Restaurant review: Portrush has become the Nantucket of NI – and the food here is just as dreamy as the location

Joris Minne heads along the Causeway coast to the new Dunluce Lodge.
Two of the world's most expensive bits of coastline are thousands of miles apart but share a common theme. Understatement. The two locations share a space at the opposite end of a spectrum where the other end is Dubai. We are talking about Nantucket, the island off Cape Cod made famous by Herman Melville and his Moby Dick and more to the point, Nicole Kidman and her central appearance in The Perfect Couple. In this series, Nantucket is portrayed as a super wealthy enclave where everybody has an innate sense of impeccable taste and style. The clapboard houses are in perfectly blended Farrow & Ball type colour schemes, the interiors are chic-rustique and the views to the beaches and sea beyond interrupted only by lush green lawns, marine pines, picket fences and salty boardwalks.
About 3,5000 miles back east on the Normandy coast is the equally well appointed super posh Deauville. Known since the 1800s as an upscale holiday destination with its elegant casino, golf courses, horse races and the American Film Festival, this town can match Nantucket on the style, elegance and good taste readings no bother.

EastEnders star Nicholas Ball died 'broke' as he leaves nothing to wife

EastEnder actor Nicholas Ball died 'broke' as his wife Ayda has been left with nothing from his will following his death last year aged 79 following a short illness EastEnders star Nicholas Ball left nothing to his wife following his death last year. The actor died aged 79 following a short illness and was known for portraying gang lord Terry Bates in the popular BBC soap. ‌ His character is remembered for attacking Peggy Mitchell and causing havoc in the iconic Queen Victoria pub. Ball also appeared in Footballers' Wives, where he took on the role of Garry Ryan, the club chairman and a former rockstar. ‌ Despite his on screen success, record show Ball left no will and nothing in his estate. It comes after Darius Danesh's ex-wife speaks out after pop star died after refusing operation. ‌ Administration of Ball's estate was granted to his wife Ayda Kay, who he wed in 2019 after over two decades together. A High Court document reads: 'The application has stated that the gross value of the estate in the United Kingdom amounts to £0 and the net value amounts to £0.' In June last year, Ball's agent revealed in a statement that he had "passed away following a short illness" and noted that his acting career, which spanned theatre and the small screen, was impressively long-standing across six decades. Ayda also shared a statement as she said at the time: "It is with the heaviest and broken of hearts, that I share the loss of my beloved Nicky-Nicholas Ball." Ball had been married to actress and psychologist Pamela Stephenson from 1978 to 1984, but she left him for comedian Billy Connolly. Director Keith English paid tribute to him after his death, as he said: "Fabulous as star of hit TV show 'Hazell' in the 1980s, Nick was a terrific actor - kind and generous. ‌ "He starred in our short film 'Top Dog' in 2001 in which he was great and we became life-long friends with him and his wife, Ayda Kay. Indeed, we were honoured when the pair of them asked if they could be married in our garden in 2019. "A fabulous affair. One of our fondest memories was going to see Jerry Goldsmith play The Royal Albert Hall with him and his great friend Mel Smith. ‌ "Mel had hired a box for the show. Both men were known hell-raisers and, sure enough, when the four of us rolled up they were both fairly merry and proceeded to football-chant 'There's only one Jerry Goldsmith!' between musical pieces to an uneven response from the rest of the auditorium. "Nick was a loving husband, friend and a wonderful actor. We enjoyed every minute of his company. Farewell and bon voyage." His television credits extended to crime shows such as Jonathan Creek, Hustle, Heartbeat and Bergerac. He also featured in comedies like Red Dwarf and The Young Ones, and the drama The Crezz. Ball secured roles in various film projects, including Overlord, Rogue Male, crime drama The Krays: Dead Man Walking; and an adaptation of Jilly Cooper's The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous.

Boxer who stopped Princess Anne's kidnapper wishes he hit killer harder

A boxer whose punches stopped Princess Anne's kidnapper said his only regret was not hitting him harder after the 'mollycoddled' killer was set free. Ian Ball, 77, tried to kidnap Queen Elizabeth's only daughter for a £3million Royal ransom in March 1974 when he also shot dead four men on The Mall. But undeterred by Ball's threats, Ronnie 'The Geezer' Russell, now 77,drove past Anne's Royal limousine and stopped. He could see Ball with a gun in each hand so punched him three times before police finally arrested him. Ball has now been released from Broadmoor Hospital despite being unrepentant for his crimes. Ball claims that the kidnap was a hoax, despite admitting to the murder of two policemen and the kidnap plot at the Old Bailey in May 1974. He's even appealing his conviction, publishing a book and flying to Barbados and Japan on holiday. Ronnie gave his reaction to the news of the killer's release, told Daily Mail: 'I can't believe Ball's been released, it's ridiculous. 'I should have hit him a bit harder. Am I worried he might come and find me? Let's go further – give him my address, and I'll go one better this time. 'He's saying now 'None of it ever happened, there was supposed to be no gunpowder in the bullets'? It's absolutely impossible, because it did happen. 'He didn't come out with all that when he was sentenced at the Old Bailey – I was there, watching him plead guilty. He should be recalled to Broadmoor. 'When Ball was put away 'at Her Majesty's pleasure' we were all sure he'd never be out. I can't see any reason why he's been released, why a publishing company agreed to print his autobiography – or how come he's had benefits to save the money to go to Barbados. 'I'm going to Barbados later this year, but that's because I worked for it. I had to sell my medal. He's been mollycoddled, and it's been too easy for him.' Ronnie recalled the moment he saved the princess and said: 'I was lifting Princess Anne out of the car by her forearms, saying 'Now we're going to walk away, and he's going to have to go through me to get to you' I was a big lad. 'But Ball came round the car, and her husband Captain Mark Phillips pulled her back in. When I turned, he was stood there with his gun pointed at me (he'd broken a car window with the other one, and it was on the floor), shouting 'Come on Anne, you've got to come'. More Trending 'That's when I decided it was going to be me, or him. I had to hit him first, and harder. 'I was quite prepared to sacrifice myself for a member of the Royal Family.' Ronnie was invited to Buckingham Palace in 1974 for his efforts helping Princess Anne and received the George Medal. Other people including royal bodyguard James Beaton, shot three times, was awarded the George Cross, journalist Brian McConnell and Anne's chauffeur Alex Callender, both shot in the chest, the Queen's Gallantry medal – while PC Michael Hills, shot in the stomach, got the George Medal.
