5 Technology Heavyweights That Surged in H1 & Have Room to Run in H2

Globe and Mail6 hours ago

The artificial intelligence (AI)-driven, astonishing bull run of 2023 and 2024 has suffered major hurdles in 2025. The Fed's ambiguity over further rate cuts this year, fears of a near-term recession and the availability of a low-cost Chinese AI platform have unnerved investors.
However, the technology sector has lately returned to its northward trajectory. Expectations of a U.S.-China trade deal, the delay by the Trump administration to impose 50% tariffs on the European Union and the ongoing negotiations related to tariff and trade policies with several other major trading partners of the United States boosted market participants' confidence.
At this stage, we have identified five technology giants that have surged in first-half 2025. The favorable Zacks Rank of these companies will usher in more price upside in the second half. These stocks are: Amphenol Corp. APH, Intuit Inc. INTU, Okta Inc. OKTA, Lam Research Corp. LRCX and KLA Corp. KLAC.
Each of our picks carries either a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) or 2 (Buy). You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank stocks here.
The chart below shows the price performance of our five picks year to date.
Amphenol Corp.
Zacks Rank #1 Amphenol provides connectivity solutions using AI and ML (machine learning) technologies. It provides AI-powered high-density, high-speed connectors and cables, and interconnect systems optimized for signal integrity and thermal performance.
Amphenol benefits from a diversified business model. APH's strong portfolio of solutions, including high-technology interconnect products, is a key catalyst. Increased spending on both current and next-generation defense technologies bodes well for APH's top-line growth. Apart from Defense, APH's prospects ride on strong demand for its solutions across the Commercial Air, Industrial and Mobile devices.
The Andrew acquisition is expected to add roughly $0.09 to earnings in 2025. APH's diversified business model lowers the volatility of individual end markets and geographies. Its strong cash-flow-generating ability is noteworthy.
Amphenol has an expected revenue and earnings growth rate of 32.3% and 40.7%, respectively, for the current year. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for current-year earnings has improved 1.5% in the last 30 days.
Intuit Inc.
Zacks Rank #1 Intuit has been benefiting from steady revenues from the Online Ecosystem and Desktop business segments. INTU's strong momentum in Online Services revenues is driven by the solid performance of Mailchimp, payroll and Money, which includes payments, capital and bill pay.
INTU's Credit Karma business is benefiting from strength in Credit Karma Money, credit cards, auto insurance and personal loans. INTU's strategy of shifting its business to a cloud-based subscription model will help generate stable revenues over the long run. Cloud is a flourishing part of the technology space and has been gaining momentum in recent years.
Intuit's generative artificial intelligence (AI)-powered "Intuit Assist," provides financial assistant, enabling personalized insights and recommendations, integrated into products like TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, aiming to fuel small business and personal financial success.
Intuit has an expected revenue and earnings growth rate of 12.1% and 18.4%, respectively, for the next year (ending July 2026). The Zacks Consensus Estimate for next-year earnings has improved 4.2% in the last 30 days.

Access Gateway enables organizations to extend Workforce Identity Cloud, and Okta Device Access enables end users to securely log in to devices with Okta credentials.
OKTA has expected revenue and earnings growth rates of 9.4% and 16.7%, respectively, for the current year (ending January 2026). The Zacks Consensus Estimate for current-year earnings has improved 2.8% over the last 30 days.
Lam Research Corp.
Zacks Rank #2 Lam Research is riding on its strength across 3D DRAM and advanced packaging technologies. Growing etch and deposition intensity owing to increasing technology inflections in 3D architectures is a plus. A rebound in the System business owing to improving memory spending is a positive for LRCX.
Strategic investments in research and development activities position LRCX well to capitalize on the growing wafer fab equipment (WFE) spending. For 2025, WFE is expected to be approximately $100 billion. Foundry/logic, DRAM and NAND investments are expected to be higher year over year. Solid demand related to LRCX's high-bandwidth memory is another driver.
Lam Research has an expected revenue and earnings growth rate of 1.6% and -0.5%, respectively, for next year (June 2026). The Zacks Consensus Estimate for next-year earnings has improved 0.5% in the last 30 days.

KLAC's robust portfolio and its leadership in process control systems are enabling customers to manage increasing design complexity. The services business also continues to perform well. KLAC is well-positioned to capitalize on AI advancements, with AI driving demand for higher-value wafer processing and more complex designs.
KLAC has an expected revenue and earnings growth rate of 2.5% and 2%, respectively, for next year (June 2026). The Zacks Consensus Estimate for next-year earnings has improved 0.5% in the last seven days.

Trump Media to launch bitcoin and ethereum ETF, pending SEC approval

Trump Media & Technology Group DJT-Q is seeking to launch an exchange-traded fund that will invest in both bitcoin and ethereum, the two largest cryptocurrencies, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. This marks the second cryptocurrency ETF filing from the social media company associated with President Donald Trump in less than two weeks. If approved, the Truth Social Bitcoin ETF and the Truth Social Bitcoin & Ethereum ETF would join a crowded and competitive market already dominated by a handful of established asset managers such as BlackRock, whose iShares Bitcoin ETF has $72.5 billion in assets. 'It will be a challenge for any new entrant in this market,' said Bryan Armour, ETF analyst at Morningstar. 'The only way to stand out will be through fees or brand.' The filing for the new bitcoin and ethereum ETF does not disclose proposed fees, and Trump Media has yet to reveal fees for the bitcoin ETF. Similar products have fees of 0.12%. Trump Media representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Armor noted that the latest filing spells out a specific allocation ratio between bitcoin and ethereum. The issuer, Yorkville America Digital, said it initially anticipates holding three bitcoins for every ethereum token in the ETF. 'There is little that is different about this new venture other than the way it could be marketed,' said Sui Chung, CEO and chairman of CF Benchmarks. 'Given Truth Social's involvement, it may very well be that (these) are marketed directly to individual investors and that this ends up getting attention from those investors in the same way that people who love their iPhones buy Apple stock.'

Think It's Too Late to Buy Palantir Stock? Here's the Biggest Reason Why There's Still Time.

With its share price up roughly 685% over the last 18 months, investors want to know: Is it too late to buy Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) stock? My answer? No, there's still time. Here's why. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » Palantir's exact total addressable market is uncertain, but it's huge For growth stocks, one of the key measures of growth potential is total addressable market (TAM). This figure represents the total revenue opportunity that a company could serve with its products or services. It's difficult to pin down an accurate TAM for Palantir for one big reason: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a cutting-edge technology, and breakthroughs are frequent. Therefore, establishing what tasks AI can do -- or will be able to do -- is hard to say. Thus, it's even harder to quantify what organizations might be willing to pay for AI-powered services. Nevertheless, many analysts have tried to estimate Palantir's TAM. In short, I've seen estimates of Palantir's TAM reaching $1.4 trillion by 2033. That's an enormous figure, and it is far from a certainty. However, one thing is clear: Analysts agree that Palantir's TAM is massive. Even the most conservative estimates, released by the company in 2020, were for a TAM of $120 billion. Palantir has a long way to go before reaching its TAM Over the last 12 months, Palantir generated about $3.1 billion in revenue. Granted, its revenue is growing quickly -- 39% year over year. But even at its current fast pace, it would take the company more than a decade to hit $100 billion in annual revenue. The good news here for investors is that Palantir still has a massive amount of room to grow into its TAM. Furthermore, if the higher-end estimates prove correct, it's possible that Palantir's growth could move faster -- or last longer -- than expected. Therefore, investors should remain confident that Palantir has many years of growth ahead. Should you invest $1,000 in Palantir Technologies right now? Trump family launches mobile phone service selling gold-coloured devices

The Trump family said it is licensing its name to a new mobile phone service, the latest in a string of ventures that have been announced while Donald Trump is in the White House despite ethical concerns that the U.S. President could mold public policy for personal gain. Eric Trump, one of President Donald Trump's sons running the Trump Organization, said the new venture, called Trump Mobile, will sell phones that will be built in the U.S., and the phone service will maintain a call centre in the country as well. The announcement of the new mobile phone and service, called T1 Mobile, follows several real estate deals for towers and resorts in the Middle East, including a golf development in Qatar announced in April. A US$1.5-billion partnership to build golf courses, hotels and real estate projects in Vietnam was approved last month, but the deal was in the works before Trump was elected. Trump's meme coin has racked up $320-million in fees as buyers jump at the chance for access to the U.S. President Even oversight of such a company, with the Trump name attached, raises ethical concerns. Trump has already used the federal government to reward his allies and punish his enemies. The Federal Communications Commission, the primary regulatory body overseeing mobile phone companies, has already launched investigations of media outlets Trump dislikes and, in some cases, is personally suing. Still, Eric Trump said Monday that consumers deserve a phone that aligns with their values. 'Hard-working Americans deserve a wireless service that's affordable, reflects their values, and delivers reliable quality they can count on,' he said in a statement. Trump criticized Apple last month because it planned to make most of its U.S. iPhones in India, and threatened to slap a 25 per cent tariff on the devices unless the tech giant starts building the product in its home country. The company on Monday said the new, gold-coloured phone available for US$499 in August, called the T1 Phone, won't be designed or made by Trump Mobile, but by another company. The Trump Organization did not respond immediately to a request for more details. A mock-up of the phone on the company's website showed Trump's slogan, 'Make America Great Again,' on the front and an etched American flag on the back. The service, which will cost US$47.45 a month, is partnering with existing cellular carriers with access to a 5G network. The Trump service will offer free texts and calls, and unlimited data. It will also offer free roadside assistance and a telehealth service that will allow callers to get prescriptions. The name given to the monthly service offer, The 47 Plan, also makes reference to the presidency. Trump was the 45th president and is currently the 47th. By sticking to licensing, the Trump family is limiting its risk. Still, the new service faces big challenges if it hopes sell beyond the President's loyal MAGA fans. The Trump company tried to tap into Trump support among the middle class in the first term with a mid-priced hotel chain. Called American Idea, and unveiled like the phone service Monday under a giant U.S. flag in the Trump Tower atrium, it flopped. Despite taking in millions of dollars each year in various licensing deals and a string of new ventures, the Trump brand has taken a series of hits to its brand over the years. During his first term, the Trump name was stripped off residential buildings and hotels in Toronto, Panama and Manhattan. After the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, banks refused to lend to the family business. The Trump International Hotel in Washington, since sold, lost money even though the family opened its doors to business executives, lobbyists and diplomats trying to shape U.S. policy. And the average condo in Trump branded residential towers has underperformed the broader market in several cities for years during and immediately after Trump's first term. In New York City, the value of Trump condos have fallen 2 per cent in the past two years even though prices for condos built during roughly the same period have jumped. Those indexes rose 8 per cent and 14 per cent, respectively, according to CityRealty. Can Carney be the Trump whisperer for a while? He has had more success with some ventures launched during his second term. Trump's media company also announced Monday that it had filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission to launch a new exchange-traded fund tied to the prices of the two most popular forms of cryptocurrency. Trump Media & Technology Group, the Florida company which operates the Truth Social media platform that the President uses to communicate with his followers, said the planned ETF will have 75 per cent of its assets in bitcoin, the world's most popular cryptocurrency, and 25 per cent in ether, the second-most popular. The planned ETF is another branch in the Trump family's rapidly growing crypto empire, which includes a new stablecoin and launching and promoting meme coins. The President's most recent financial disclosure report shows that he made more than US$57-million last year from World Liberty Financial, a crypto company he and his sons helped launch in September.
