A 34-year-old woman has been served the Book of Evidence and sent forward for trial to the circuit court charged with assaulting a Detective Inspector causing him harm at Sligo Courthouse.
Mindruta Muntean, Meadowbrook, Athlone, Co Westmeath was charged with assaulting Dt Inspector Raymond Mulderrig at Sligo Courthouse, Teeling Street, Sligo on December 13 2024.

Three in court charged over sexual exploitation of children in Co Kerry
Three people have appeared in court charged in connection with the sexual exploitation of four children at addresses in Co Kerry. The three, two women and a man, were arrested at separate addresses in the county yesterday evening and appeared before Tralee District Court today. The man, who is aged 36 years faces 142 charges of sexually exploiting and sexually assaulting a child. These include 36 counts of obtaining or procuring a child for sexual exploitation; 34 charges of inviting, inducing, counselling or inciting a child to sexual touching; 34 counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence or sight of a child under 17; 34 counts of sexual assault; and 4 counts of communication by means of information and communication technology to facilitate the sexual exploitation of a child. Garda Det Sgt Tom Bourke gave evidence of the man's arrest, charge and caution yesterday evening. The State's application was to remand the man on bail, subject to conditions. The court was told that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed trial by indictment and that a Book of Evidence is being prepared. Judge Treasa Kelly granted the application and remanded the man on bail on his own bond of €300, to appear before Tralee District Court on 3 September for service of the Book of Evidence, with conditions attached. The second defendant, a 28-year-old woman, was charged with 9 counts of providing, offering, or promising to provide a child under 18 for another person for the purpose of sexual exploitation of a child. The third defendant, a 46-year-old woman, faces 40 charges. These include 33 charges of providing a child for sexual exploitation; 1 charge of possessing child pornography; 3 charges of producing child pornography and 3 charges of distributing child pornography. Det Garda Mary McGinty gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution in both cases. Applications to remand both women on bail on their own bond of €300 to appear again before the district court on 3 September for service of the Book of Evidence, on conditions, was granted by Judge Kelly who also made it a condition of bail that the two women remain within the jurisdiction. Free legal aid was granted to all three defendants, and Judge Kelly imposed reporting restrictions on anything that would identify the victims or witnesses in the case.

Two Sligo businessmen sent forward to circuit court charged with the false imprisonment of three teenage boys
Sligo Champion Two Sligo businessmen, who are charged with the false imprisonment of three teenage boys, have been returned for trial to the next sitting of Sligo Circuit Court on July 15. Three in court over defrauding Trinity of nearly €500,000
Three people have appeared in court charged in connection with an alleged scheme to defraud almost a half a million euro from Trinity College's student hardship fund. Forty-eight-year-old Helen Richardson from Beaupark Square in Clongriffin in Dublin, who worked as a student support officer at the college, is facing over a hundred theft and money laundering charges. She is accused of stealing and transferring sums of between €1,550 and €3,000, 102 times, on different dates over a two-year period between 2021 and 2022. The money was allegedly from Trinity College's Student Hardship fund. The alleged offences are contrary to the Criminal Justice Theft and the Criminal Justice Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Acts. Det Garda Joseph Heaphy from Pearse Street Garda Station told the court that he arrested Helen Richardson at her home in Beaupark Square this morning. He said the 48-year-old, who no longer works in Trinity College and is currently on social welfare, made no reply to each of the 102 charges when they were put to her between 9am and 9.33am this morning. She was granted free legal aid and remanded on bail for service of the Book of Evidence in October. Judge Paula Murphy directed as part of her bail conditions that Ms Richardson was not to have any contact with any witnesses or her other two co-accused. They are 33-year-old Luke Taffe from Brookwood Avenue in Artane and 45-year-old Daniel Dwyer from Edenmore Avenue in Dublin 5. Luke Taffe is facing 20 charges of converting, transferring, handling, acquiring, possessing or using property that is the proceeds of criminal conduct from the Student Hardship Fund of Trinity College Dublin while knowing it was the proceeds of criminal conduct. One of the charges relates to a sum of €1,550 on 22 December 2020 and is contrary to the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing) Act. Daniel Dwyer is also facing 14 similar charges of converting, transferring, handling, acquiring, possessing or using property that is the proceeds of criminal conduct, from the Student Hardship Fund of Trinity College Dublin while also knowing it was the proceeds of criminal conduct. One of the charges he faces relates to the movement of €15,590 at The Central Bank of Ireland in the Irish Financial Services Centre IFSC on the 7 September 2021. Judge Murphy also remanded Luke Taffe and Daniel Dwyer on bail to appear again before the Dublin district court in October for service of a book of evidence.
