Pakistan Navy hosts 'Aman 2025' naval exercise in Karachi
The Pakistan Navy has officially commenced the ninth edition of its multinational naval exercise, 'Aman 2025', in Karachi, with participation from over 60 countries.
The event aims to enhance maritime security and foster international cooperation in addressing regional and global maritime challenges, Express News reported.
The opening ceremony was held at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard, where the flags of the participating nations were raised, with Pakistan's green and white flag prominently displayed.
The event was graced by the Commander of the Pakistan Fleet, Rear Admiral Abdul Munib, who addressed the attendees, emphasising the significance of joint operations and naval stability.
This year's exercise marks a key milestone, as it introduces the 'Peace Dialogue' initiative, providing a platform for the heads of navies and coast guards from various countries to engage in discussions on critical maritime issues.
In addition to naval warships, aircraft, special operations forces, and bomb disposal units from participating nations, observers are also part of the event.
The exercise, which will run from February 7 to 11, will be divided into two phases.
The first phase, the Harbour Phase, will last until February 9, featuring seminars, discussions, operational demonstrations, international cultural events, and sporting activities.
The second phase, the Sea Phase, scheduled for February 10 and 11, will focus on practical exercises, including anti-piracy and anti-terrorism drills, search and rescue operations, live firing exercises, and an international fleet review.
Since its inception in 2007, the 'Aman' series has been held biennially, aimed at promoting maritime stability, enhancing collaborative capabilities, and highlighting Pakistan's positive role in the international community.
The inclusion of the Peace Dialogue in this edition further underscores the event's broader focus on enhancing cooperation on global maritime security issues.

CM Gandapur releases Rs3b for flood relief in K-P
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has released Rs3 billion for flood rescue and relief operations following widespread destruction caused by heavy rains and flash floods. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur left Dera Ismail Khan to visit flood-affected areas, where he is expected to meet families and review relief efforts, Express News reported. At a high-level meeting in Peshawar, attended by the chief secretary, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, and PDMA officials, authorities reported that at leas 308 people have lost their lives so far, with 23 injured. The government has allocated Rs1.5 billion to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Rs1.5 billion to the communications department for rehabilitation. Additionally, Rs500 million has been provided to deputy commissioners for compensation to victims' families. Medical teams, food supplies, and medicines have been dispatched, while helicopters and rescue teams are engaged in relocating people and restoring access roads. Authorities have declared a flood and health emergency across the province, with operations continuing in coordination with federal government and military support but led by the civil administration. CM Gandapur directed that road links be restored urgently, and helicopter services arranged where necessary. He ordered compensation payments within two days and ensured uninterrupted food supplies.

Pakistan Navy launches third Hangor-class submarine in China
The Pakistan Navy launched its third Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M MANGRO (Desig), in a ceremony held in China on August 15, 2025. The development comes months after the Navy unveiled its second Hangor-class submarine named PNS Shushuk. The launching ceremony of submarine PNS/M MANGRO (Desig) was held at Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd, Shuangliu Base, Wuhan, China. Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Project-2, Vice Admiral Abdul Samad graced the occasion as Chief Guest, according to a Pakistan Navy statement. While addressing the ceremony, Chief Guest stressed the significance of maritime security amid region's current geo-strategic dynamics. He reaffirmed that Pakistan Navy remains fully committed to defend national interests while fostering a secure and cooperative maritime environment. Referring to Hangor-class submarines, he highlighted that their cutting-edge weaponry and advanced sensors would be instrumental in sustaining regional power equilibrium and ensuring maritime stability. Commending the work of China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC), he expressed satisfaction over progress of the project and remarked that Hangor-class submarine initiative would bring a fresh dimension to the enduring, time-honoured partnership between Pakistan and China. The Government of Pakistan signed an agreement with CSOC to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines. Under the contract, four submarines are being built in China, while the remaining four will be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW) under Transfer of Technology (ToT) programme. The launching ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from Pakistan and China, including representatives from Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd and China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd.
