
Isomorphic Labs' AI designed drugs are about to hit human trials
DeepMind's revolutionary AlphaFold AI system gave birth to Isomorphic Labs, which can accurately predict the structure of proteins. This AI has become so advanced that it can model how proteins interact with other molecules, such as DNA and drugs. It enables researchers to design medicines quickly and with high precision.
According to Colin Murdoch, president of Isomorphic Labs and DeepMind's chief business officer, the company is close to achieving a major milestone by putting AI-designed drugs into human trials. In an interview with Fortune, Murdoch said, 'There are people sitting in our office in London, collaborating with AI to design drugs for cancer right now.' He added, 'The next big milestone is actually going out to clinical trials.'
Since the beginning of Isomorphic Labs in 2021, it has partnered with major pharmaceutical companies like Novartis and Eli Lilly. These partnerships helped them to support existing drug programs and to advance their research in oncology and immunology. The company secured $600 million in funding in April 2025 to accelerate the mission.
The current drug development process is very expensive and time-consuming, costing millions and with just a 10% chance of success. Isomorphic Labs aims to speed up the discovery process, reduce costs, and improve the success rate. Murdoch envisions a future where researchers can use the power of AI to design a drug with just the click of a button.
If successful, Isomorphic Labs could revolutionise how medicines are developed and possibly offer faster cures for a range of diseases. The company's progress marks a significant step toward utilising the full potential of AI in healthcare, making the dream of curing all diseases a possible goal.

Prashant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, a New Delhi-based online travel firm, has announced a contribution of ₹1 crore to develop an Artificial Intelligence-powered solution that can identify traffic pinch points across Bengaluru. The initiative stems from Mr. Pitti's personal experience of being trapped for 100 minutes at a single traffic jam-prone zone on the Outer Ring Road, transforming a 11-km journey into a grueling two-hour experience. He told The Hindu: 'The project's success will depend on collaboration with the Bangalore Traffic Police (BTP) and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), who must provide access to their traffic data feeds and establish dedicated teams to implement the AI-generated recommendations.'' He said that rather than adding to the endless stream of traffic complaints, he chose to create tangible solutions by utilising Google Maps' recently introduced 'Road Management Insight' feature, available in Big Query format since April 2025, to find a logical remedy to the city's long-standing traffic challenges. 'This comprehensive system will integrate satellite imagery with machine learning algorithms to systematically identify traffic congestion points and analyse the peak timing patterns,'' he said. The funding allocation would support hiring experienced machine learning and AI engineers and cover operational expenses, including Google Maps API usage, satellite imagery procurement, GPU resources, and field testing programmes. The entire solution would be designed as an open-source platform, allowing other Indian cities to implement similar traffic management systems, he added. However, he said, the project's success would depend on collaboration with the BTP and the BBMP. Mr. Pitti also requested public support by encouraging citizens to connect with traffic authorities, inviting AI professionals to contribute their expertise, and rallying commuters to advocate for the initiative, emphasising that India's technology capital deserved world-class infrastructure for its innovators and workforce.

Andhra Pradesh cuts liquor prices, tipplers save ₹116 crore every month
Liquor consumers in Andhra Pradesh are collectively saving nearly₹ 116 crore per month, following a reduction in alcohol prices from₹ 10 to₹ 100 per bottle, the first such cut in the state. During a review meeting with officials, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed them to ensure transparency in the liquor policy, maintain affordable prices, and protect public health. He also stressed the need to prevent the sale of fake or substandard liquor brands, according to an official release on Monday. Naidu directed officials to allow only national and international quality brands into the state, and to prohibit the sale of non-duty paid, illicit, or harmful liquor. Officials informed the CM that the new liquor policy has boosted state revenue, brought back trade lost during the previous YSRCP regime, eliminated fake brands, and contributed to improved public health by helping prevent addiction among economically weaker families. Liquor prices have decreased for the first time by ₹10 to ₹100 per bottle, resulting in overall consumer savings of nearly ₹116 crore per month, keeping prices of 30 brands in Andhra Pradesh lower than those in Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu the release said, quoting officials. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of CII CIES, Co-Founder of Infosys, and Chairman of Axilor Ventures, during an interaction with entrepreneurs here on Monday, advised young entrepreneurs and start-ups to adopt technology to give a boost and evolve in their business. Technology, a disruptor in almost every sector, was also an important driving factor for upgradation, he added. Though it could be a challenge for the start-ups to bring in the money required for the upgradation, it has become an indispensable change that has to be adopted, Mr. Gopalakrishnan stated. 'But the out of box thinking like roping interns and experienced retirees to get the technologies incorporated into the businesses could be considered. Building a network with the colleges can help address the demand,' he suggested. Commenting that the academics and industries have not worked together as an ecosystem, he said that except for hiring students through placements, a dialogue between the two large sectors was missing. He asked the education institutions to adopt the idea of Indian Institute of Technology to allocate vacant space for the industries to set up their units at the institution. By that way, both the students and the company could benefit from each other. 'As close to 25 lakh engineering graduates come out of colleges every year and with the recent dip of employment in Information Technology sector innovative ways are required to fill the gap in education and employment,' he added. The Karnataka government, to upskill both students and teachers to adapt to the changing needs of the market, has planned to conduct a mass workshop to train teachers on Artificial Intelligence (AI), he pointed out. 'Though students are being updated on the latest technologies, teaching faculties, following their employment, stops learning,' Mr. Gopalakrishnan said. Adopting new systems like dedicating a semester to internships for students and allowing a sabbatical for teachers to improve their industrial knowledge could give leverage in the knowledge acquisition and hiring process, he suggested. With rapid intrusion of AI into the sectors, there was a fear afloat that it would replace humans, but the same fear prevailed when computers were first introduced into banking sectors in 1980s, he noted. Rejecting the fears, he said once the sector grows, employment will eventually grow. Speaking on the academic challenges in inculcating business interest in students, he said in Kerala and Gujarat, the State governments have allocated a separate fund to encourage students to develop and start a business as part of their curriculum. It would not only motivate the students but would also help them think of businesses as an alternative option to job seeking, he noted. 'Only by running a business, we can learn about business,' he said. The CII (Madurai zone) had hosted an exclusive interactive session for the Start-ups, MSMEs and incubation centres.
