Spanish town bans Muslim festivals in public spaces
A local council in Jumilla, a town in the Murcia region of south-east Spain, has passed a measure banning Muslim religious festivals such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha from being celebrated in public facilities like civic centres and sports halls, as per reports from The Guardian. The motion was introduced by the conservative People's Party (PP) and approved with the abstention of the far-right Vox party, while left-wing parties opposed it. The ruling states that municipal sports and public facilities 'cannot be used for religious, cultural or social activities alien to our identity unless organised by the local authority.' Jumilla, a town of around 27,000 people, has a Muslim population of approximately 7.5%, many from North African countries. The local branch of Vox celebrated the decision on social media, stating on X, 'Thanks to Vox the first measure to ban Islamic festivals in Spain's public spaces has been passed. Spain is and will be forever the land of Christian people.' Mounir Benjelloun Andaloussi Azhari, president of the Spanish Federation of Islamic Organisations, called the ban 'Islamophobic and discriminatory' in an interview with El País. 'They're not going after other religions, they're going after ours,' he said according to The Guardian. 'For the first time in 30 years, I feel afraid,' he added. Legal experts and opposition leaders have flagged the move as potentially unconstitutional. Spain's Article 16 guarantees freedom of religion, ideology, and worship, stating that no restriction may be imposed unless necessary to maintain public order. Francisco Lucas, the regional Socialist Party leader in Murcia, criticized the decision on X. 'The PP violates the constitution and puts social cohesion at risk simply in the pursuit of power.' Juana Guardiola, a former Socialist mayor of Jumilla, questioned the vague reference to 'identity' in the motion. 'What do they mean by identity? And what about the centuries of Muslim legacy here?' Historically, the town of Jumilla was part of the Roman empire before falling under Arab control in the eighth century, remaining primarily Arab until Christian forces led by Alfonso X of Castile seized it in the 13th century. Initially, a treaty known as the Capitulations of Alcatraz allowed coexistence, but Arab rule ended soon after Alfonso's death when Castile took full control of the area. Ahmedabad: A woman arrested by Gujarat ATS for allegedly promoting Al-Qaeda agenda had appealed to Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir to invade India during Operation Sindoor to "unify Muslim lands" under "Project Khilafat", officials have said. Shama Parveen Ansari was arrested from her residence in Bengaluru on July 29 on charges of spreading the propaganda of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), a banned terror outfit, through her social media pages. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Wednesday stated Ansari operated two Facebook pages and an Instagram handle with 10,000 followers to share provocative, jihadi and anti-India content of the AQIS and some other radical preachers. On May 9, two days after India launched the Operation Sindoor against terror dens in Pakistan and PoK, Ansari uploaded a post on her FB account appealing Gen Munir to seize the "golden opportunity" to attack India, according to a release issued by ATS. In the FB post, which had the photo of Munir, Ansari stated, "You have a golden opportunity.. adopt Project Khilafat for the implementation of Islam, unify Muslim lands, and march forward to eliminate Hindutva and march forward." In a video Ansari shared on her Instagram account, a preacher can be heard criticising Indian Muslims for extending their support to the Army and condemning the Pahalgam terror attack. In another video clip Ansari shared, the Imam of Lahore's Lal Masjid Abdul Aziz can be heard making provocative statements about establishing the Khilafat System in India through armed revolution against the government, said the release. A third video shows an AQIS leader talking about "Ghazwa-e-Hind" and making provocative calls to unleash violence against the Indian state, particularly targeting members of the Hindu community and institutions of democratic governance, the ATS said. Ansari was linked to one of the four persons nabbed two weeks ago for allegedly sharing the provocative content through their Instagram accounts, as per the ATS. These four persons, including two from Gujarat, were arrested from different locations in a multi-state operation, officials earlier said. All the five individuals have been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

It has become a trend of sorts in Karnataka, especially by the ruling Congress government to perpetually keep alive the legacy of Tipu Sultan, including by irrationally crediting Tipu as the builder of Kannambadi Dam. Tipu Jayanthi came into controversy, promoted by the Congress government that was vehemently opposed by the level-headed citizens of Karnataka for Tipu's anti-Hindu ways that the government attempted to catapult him to the status of 'India's freedom fighter' having fought the British. It is important that the Siddaramiah government desists from the overt Muslim appeasement to the consternation of Hindus in the state. This excessive pro-Muslim pampering mentality on part of the Congress will cost it dearly in its greed for power. Recently, a devastating flood in Uttarakhand caused widespread destruction. The time has come for us to approach floods with a scientific mindset. The rescue operations by various governmental agencies are laudable. Now it's time to dwell deep into the root causes of such disasters, which are happening regularly in the Himalayan region. The eco-sensitive zone must be kept away from so-called development with unplanned constructions. The quantity of destruction may be due to sprouting of unplanned constructions.
