Barry from Aberdeen, Scotland, said: 'He told me about his character and how bad his life was, but he got up every morning with a positive mindset at all times. I've idolised this guy for thirty years. The next day after the convention, I joined the gym, totally changed my diet, and walked in public.
'It was because I had so much respect for this guy and I've got so much time for him and I looked into his eyes and I knew that he was actually interested and cared. If I was ever going to make myself proud, I wanted to meet him again, and talk to him about his words and how they spurred me on.
"He said he couldn't believe that he had inspired me, and he said it was great to meet me again. It made me feel so good about myself."
Barry described himself as a "big lad" growing up. "I was having up to 12 bottles of fizzy full coke daily, some days up to 24 bags of crisps," he said.
Speaking of his lifelong love for Only Fools and Horses he added: 'You are so into that family, and you want the best for them. "The acting is great, and I love all the characters. Sir David's story is great, and that is what you see throughout the show, you get a real connection with all of the characters."
He told Sir David about how much the show meant to him at the convention. "People have said to never meet your heroes but Sir David Jason was absolutely brilliant," he said.
'The words that came from Sir David changed my life. He said that my binge eating has to stop and my gambling has to stop. My admiration for David and his words changed my life."
Barry replaced his bacon butty breakfasts with avocado on toast, and his dinner of pasties became steak with asparagus. He also joined the gym, working out three times a week.
"I would watch Only Fools and Horses every day," he said. "It kept me going.'
Now he wears 34'' size trousers and large t-shirts - and showed off his new frame to Sir David last month. "He said he remembered me and he talked to me about the weight and he said what Derek Trotter can do to people.'

Superman 2 Release Date Reportedly Revealed
The release date for may have been revealed. Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios' Superman movie was released in United States theaters in July 2025. Written and directed by James Gunn, the DCU film stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Following the release of Superman, Gunn began to tease Superman 2; however, he's also said that the follow-up will be 'a little different than what one might expect.' It's not immediately clear what Gunn means by this, though David Zaslav did recently refer to the film as being 'the next movie in the Super-Family.' What is the reported Superman 2 release date? According to insider EmpireCity Box Office, Warner Bros. Pictures is looking to release Superman 2 in July 2027. More specifically, the studio is reportedly eying July 9, 2027, or July 16, 2027, as a release date. This means the DCU sequel will be filming at the same time as The Batman 2, also known as The Batman Part II, next year. This is just a rumor at this time, as neither Gunn nor anybody at DC Studios has confirmed that this is the release date for Superman 2. Gunn has said, however, that the treatment for Superman 2 is already done and that production will start sooner than fans may be expecting. He just recently told Collider, 'We're scheduling it now. I'm totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They're not regular treatments. They're 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I'm just turning that into a script. We're planning out when we're going to shoot that. It's going to be much sooner rather than later.' Superman is now available to rent or purchase on digital outlets. The next DCU project is Peacemaker Season 2, which premieres this coming Thursday. Solve the daily Crossword

Betty White's unforgettable explicit first words to David Boreanaz on the 'Bones' set
Betty White always knew the importance of comedic timing, whether on screen or in conversation. David Boreanaz, who worked with White on a few episodes of "Bones" in 2015, recently reflected on his first interaction with the late "Golden Girls" actress. While chatting with cast members during the "Bones" 20th Anniversary Retrospective at the Televerse Festival in Los Angeles, Boreanaz agreed to actor T. J. Thyne's comment that White was "a little troublemaker" on set. "She showed up in the diner. They drive her in and put her – Ms. White – [they] usher her in," Boreanaz recalled during a panel discussion, according to People magazine. "And she says hello to everybody. And Emily [Deschanel] and I are waiting for her. And she's like, 'Good to see you. Oh, good to see you. You're so nice. You're so pretty.' She goes up to Emily – 'Oh, you're so pretty.'" "She looks at me, she goes, 'Holy s---, I want to f--- you. I want to f--- you!' I just started laughing," Boreanaz said. Deschanel clarified that she didn't exactly remember the exchange. "I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm saying I didn't hear that, but that's amazing," she said, before co-star Tamara Taylor called White a "legendary potty mouth." While White was known for her "Golden Girls" role and starring on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," she regularly made movie cameos and guest appearances on television shows, including "30 Rock," "Boston Legal," and "The Bold and the Beautiful." White died Dec. 31, 2021, at the age of 99, her friend and agent Jeff Witjas confirmed at the time. "Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever," Witjas said in a statement to People magazine. "I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don't think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again." In 2018, White spoke to Parade magazine, revealing that the secret to her long and happy life was, in part, her consumption of foods she enjoyed, such as vodka and hot dogs – "probably in that order" – rather than restricting her diet. "Enjoy life," she told Parade. "Accentuate the positive, not the negative. It sounds so trite, but a lot of people will pick out something to complain about, rather than say, 'Hey, that was great!' It's not hard to find great stuff if you look."

Tom Grennan says therapy helps with his body dysmorphia
Singer Tom Grennan has said having therapy has helped him with issues around body dysmorphia, calling himself his "own biggest critic". Speaking on You About? - the performer's BBC podcast with his best friend, broadcaster Roman Kemp - Grennan spoke about how it affected him. "I definitely have body dysmorphia," he said. "I'm always constantly thinking I am bigger than I am. Or I'm always pinching my belly. It's not a healthy mindset at all, and I fully admit that." Eating patterns and gym training habits, he noted, can have a big impact on his mental health. "Sometimes I wouldn't be training for the purpose of staying fit," he added. "I'd have a binge with eating and then I'd be like, 'I need to go and train now to make sure these calories or this food isn't put on to me - which is an unhealthy way of being." Feelings of guilt often follow eating binges, he admitted. For example, when one biscuit turns into half a packet, he said, he can be left thinking: "I'm gonna be fat. I'm gonna be so unfit." With reference to how he viewed himself and his own body, the Little Bit of Love singer continued: "I'm at home in the mirror going to my missus, 'I'm fat' and she's like, 'are you alright? You're not'." He said he had been "scared of going back" to an unhealthy lifestyle. "I always think I need to stay at this point." The singer from Bedford has previously spoken on the same podcast about how being physically attacked on a night out when he was younger changed his life and sent him "spiralling". In the latest episode, the 30-year-old revealed he was in "a good place with it" right now, regarding his body dysmporhia, after having had therapy which he finds helps to "actually love yourself more". What is body dysmorphia? According to the NHS website, body dysmorphia - or body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) - is "a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are often unnoticeable to others." It affects both men and women of all ages but is most common in teenagers and young adults. "Having BDD does not mean you're vain or self-obsessed," it continues. "It can be very upsetting and have a big impact on your life." Symptoms can include worrying a lot about a specific area of your body and spending a lot of time comparing your looks with other people's, as well as either looking at yourself in the mirror a lot or avoiding mirrors entirely. People with body dysmorphia also go to a lot of effort to conceal flaws with clothes and make-up, or pick at their skin. TV and radio presenter Kemp shared some of his own experiences with Grennan on the pressures of body image and around weight in show business. "I can't look at a picture of myself if it's on the day because it will upset me for the rest of the day," the One Show host noted. "I'll be judging everything, and it won't be about what I'm actually doing, it'll be about how I look. And I don't want to live like that." The former model recalled witnessing one extreme example of such pressures for one young woman at a fashion show in Milan. "We were doing the rehearsal, and she fainted on stage," he remembered. "We tried to give her food, because she needs to eat, but [she was] straight up refusing," he added. "I saw that on a regular basis." Kemp also recounted how someone in a pub recently told him he looked "a lot fatter on telly". He said: "I fluctuate a lot, but that's just because sometimes you'll be working more, like anyone." On Tuesday, Grennan went on to tell BBC Breakfast how he had channelled some hard life lessons, heartbreak and advice from his mum too into his new album, Everywhere I Went, Led Me to Where I Didn't Want to Be. "I was lost and I was young and I was stupid sometimes, and my mum could see something wasn't right," said the singer, who has two previous number one albums to his name. "And a lot of people could see, but I was very much [like], 'no I need to be going full at it and doing everything I can to become a big star' or whatever." He added: "But actually none of that matters. Peace of mind is my mantra at the moment. "When you've got peace of mind everything falls into place and you can see your way out of anything."
