Multi-Million Pound Luxury Holiday Retreat to Open its Gates for Charity Garden Event

A luxury holiday park nestled within one of the UK's most scenic landscapes will unveil the rich beauty of its 120-acre estate for charity.
Maes Mynan Park, located in the tranquil village of Afonwen near Caerwys, Flintshire, is set to open its gates to the public on Saturday July 12 for the National Open Garden Scheme (NGS), which has raised millions of pounds for nursing and health organisations over the years.
Visitors will have the rare opportunity to explore the privately-owned retreat, which lies within the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape (AONB).
The multi-million pound site offers a captivating experience, with sweeping panoramic views, woodland, a sequoia grove, freshwater lakes and a stunning array of wild flora and fauna, birds and wildlife that flourish across the diverse landscape.
Acorn Leisure owners Peter and Louise Barlow hope the event's success will amplify both awareness and fundraising efforts.
To that end, there will be 32 stalls to attract footfall and support local businesses and artisans on the day of the event.
'This is a truly magical place that harmoniously blends luxury and nature,' said Louise.
'With its tranquil parkland, amazing panoramic views, lakes and woodland and a history steeped in legends of Welsh princes, Tudor royalty, and local industry, Maes Mynan Park offers a setting unlike any other, so we are delighted to share that with the public in support of such worthy causes.'
Peter added:
'Alongside the beauty of the estate and the significant investment we've made into its development, we believe in sharing this special place with second homeowners who want to be part of a naturally beautiful landscape.
'Opening up the park to the public for charity, so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of the hard work we, as a small team, have undertaken to change this old sand and gravel quarry into a hidden gem, that some call 'Little Switzerland', will be a great experience day for everyone who attends.'
The day will also celebrate sustainability and regional craftsmanship, showcasing more than 30 artisan producers and independent businesses from North Wales and the North West.
Highlights include handcrafted goods and culinary delights from acclaimed names such as Wernog Wood, Little Welsh Aromas, SheepFloof, Karen's Kakes and Confections, Kirsty Williams Ceramics, Cariad Gin, and Griff's Big Ribs BBQ.
Louise added:
'Guests will have the chance to engage with some of the region's finest producers. With handcrafted items, gourmet treats, and seating to admire the views and walks, it promises to be an inspiring and unforgettable day for everyone.'
Proceeds from the event will support a variety of UK charities through the National Garden Scheme, including Hospice UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Parkinson's UK.
The Maes Mynan National Open Garden Scheme Day runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday July 12. Entry is £4 for adults (donated to NGS and its charities), with free admission for children and on-site parking. Limited wheelchair access available along tarmac road behind the lodge holiday homes.

(Image: Indigo Jones ) You hear stories of proposals during concerts, but rarely do you hear about somebody popping the question the day before to celebrate the big event. This is what happened to Heidi Orozco from Colombia, when her now fiancée, Sergio Gallego proposed to her yesterday, Thursday July 3 at Cardiff Castle. The couple travelled roughly 20 hours to reach the Welsh capital to go and see Oasis kick off their Live 25 reunion tour in Cardiff's Principality Stadium tonight, Friday July 4. Sergio decided that now was the time to pop the question to his girlfriend, although he didn't want to distract from the real reason they were in Cardiff. However, they have something else to remember the trip as Sergio proposed to Heidi to commemorate the occasion whilst visiting Cardiff Castle. Sergio said: "It is the beat trip we have done in our life. I didn't want to propose in the concert because today is my day, yesterday was her day and I wanted to make it about her and not my favourite band." Despite not being able to speak English Heidi loves the music and is excited to see her new fiancé's dreams come true watching his favourite band. Football fans stuck in hotels after historic match hit by travel chaos

Football fans stuck in hotels after historic match hit by travel chaos Wales' team is set to face off in their first Euro 2025 match but fans might not be able to make it to the venue Wales' Angharad James getting a picture at with young fan at the Cardiff Airport (Image: PA ) Welsh football fans are facing disruption ahead of a historic match, as French air traffic control strikes continue to cause chaos for those headed to France. Welsh women's team made history after qualifying for the Euro 2025 tournament last year. They are set to take on the Netherlands this weekend on July 5 in their first match of the tournament but some fans are now having to deal with an unexpected snag. As the strikes by air traffic controllers in France continue to cause flight delays and cancellations, fans who hoped to see players battle it out on the field in Switzerland are now stuck. ‌ Speaking to BBC Radio Wales Breakfast, Daniel Davies, a fan from Rhondda Cynon Taf, said he was due fly from Heathrow Airport to Basel at 8.20 BST but his flight was cancelled on the night of July 3. ‌ He was supposed travel with his family including his wife, three children, and parents. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here However, he is now stuck at a hotel in London, worried about how the family will make it to the match. He told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast: "My brother was on the flight last night, that was also cancelled, due to air traffic control strike in France. Article continues below "They've managed to get on a flight from Bristol but their car's in Gatwick and we're planning to get on that flight, but that's full so at the moment I don't think we're able to get to Switzerland." Daniel added that there is lack of flights to Switzerland owning to the strike, and he's not left with many options due to the cost. Strikes by workers in France means that hundreds of flights in the country have been cancelled with planes flying over France also being grounded or diverted. ‌ Airlines like easyJet, Ryanair, HOP! and Air France cancelled nearly 500 flights at the start of the strike action which is taking place on July 3 and July 4. Ryanair has announced that cancellations will impact flights to and from France in addition to flights over the country that are headed to places like the UK, Greece, Spain and Ireland. The French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) has requested a decrease in airport capacity nationwide, which would mean airlines having to cancel flights. ‌ This comes just as the school summer holidays are about to kick off in France, a time when air traffic typically reaches its peak. According to the DGAC, these dates are among the busiest of the year, with many people setting off for their summer holidays. Despite the strike action continuing into Friday, only one of the two unions is participating, which should result in less disruption. The strikes could also affect 'overflights' or those that pass through French airspace. Article continues below This could potentially mean aircraft have to be rerouted around France, leading to delays. Flights to and from Belgium, Portugal, Spain and Morocco have been among the most severely impacted during previous ATC actions in France.
