England have named a 14-man squad for the first Test against India starting June 20.
England have named a 14-man squad led by allrounder Ben Stokes for their first Test of a five-match series against India that gets underway from June 20. Allrounder Jamie Overton has been recalled after three years when he played the only Test of his year, against New Zealand at Headingley in 2022.
However, England have been handed another major injury blow with right-arm pacer Gus Atkinson to miss the series opener due to a hamstring injury which he picked up during the one-off Test against Zimbabwe last month.
England are already missing the services of fast bowlers Jofra Archer, Olly Stone and Mark Wood due to various injuries. While Archer is expected to be fit for the second Test, the duo of Stone and Wood has been ruled out of the entire series.
Fast bowlers Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes have also been included in the squad while the highly-rated top-order batter Jacob Bethell is back as well.
Overton scored 97 runs and took two wickets on Test debut. He did break his little finger during the series opening first ODI against West Indies last month.
The series will be the first of the next ICC World Test Championship cycle.
The first Test will be played at Headingley while Edgbaston hosts the second game. The third Test will be held at Lord's with the penultimate contest at Old Trafford.
The fifth and final match will be at London's Oval.

Rohit Sharma Reveals Father's Reaction On Test Retirement: 'He Was A Little...'

Last Updated: Rohit Sharma revealed his father was a 'little disappointed' with his Test retirement. Senior India batter Rohit Sharma has revealed that his father, Gurunath, was happy but also 'a little disappointed' when he announced his Test retirement last month. Rohit explained that Gurunath has always appreciated red-ball cricket more than ODIs and T20s, and the longest format has always made him more excited — a love that has only gotten stronger seeing his son go up the ranks to the highest level of the sport. Rohit called off his Test career in the first week of May via an announcement on his Instagram story. Only hours before his decision was made public, reports came through claiming that the BCCI selectors had decided to remove him from Test captaincy ahead of the upcoming five-match series against England in the summer. 'My father has seen me playing a lot of cricket with red ball, obviously," Rohit said at the launch of Cheteshwar Pujara's wife Puja Pujara's book 'The Diary of a Cricketer's Wife' in Mumbai. 'So he appreciates red ball cricket a lot. And then, obviously, he was a little disappointed when I announced my retirement. But was happy as well at the same time. But, yeah, that's my father. And he has obviously played a huge role in wherever I am today. Without their help, it never would have been possible," he added. Rohit revealed that his father was even happier with his cameos in Test cricket than his world-record 264 in an ODI against Sri Lanka in November 2014. 'My father worked in a transport company. Like I said, what my mom did, my father was very much involved in sacrificing things so that we could have our life. But my father always, since day one, has been a fan of Test cricket. He doesn't like this new-age cricket. I still remember that day I scored 264 in the ODI. He was like, okay, well played. Well done. There was no excitement from him. It's important to go out there and all that. But even if I used to get good 30s or 40s or 50s or 60s, in Test cricket used to talk to me about it in detail. So that's the kind of love he had for the game," he added. Rohit retired with 4301 runs from 67 Tests. His family was present — and in tears — when a stand named after him at the Wankhede Stadium was unveiled in a grand ceremony on May 17. First Published: June 06, 2025, 13:11 IST

India A Vs England Lions Live Score, 2nd Unofficial Test Day 1: Nitsh, Kotian At The Crease As Play Resumes

India A vs England Lions Live Score, 2nd Unofficial Test, Day 1: KL Rahul aims to make the most of his first red-ball game in months ahead of the Test series against England, while fringe players seek impactful performances when India A faces England Lions in their second and final unofficial Test starting Friday. With much of India experiencing monsoon, Rahul chose to head to the UK before the main Test squad to train for the five-match series starting June 20. The Shubman Gill-led India squad will depart from Mumbai late Friday. Rahul, with notable success in England, including two centuries, is the senior-most batter in the Test squad following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Though he averages a modest 33.57 in 58 Tests, most of his achievements in this format have come as an opener. It remains to be seen if he continues at the top or bats lower down the order.
