The Gujarat government's AI implementation action plan focuses on efficient governance and effective welfare programmes by fostering a robust artificial intelligence ecosystem.The 'Action Plan for Implementation of Artificial Intelligence 2025-2030', approved by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel , aims to facilitate smart decision-making, citizen-focused schemes, efficient service delivery, and effective welfare programs through the application of AI, according to an official release on Sunday.This action plan aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to position India as a global leader in digital empowerment, leveraging the widespread use of AI to drive growth in various sectors through extensive AI adoption, the release stated.At the annual 'Chintan Shivir' held in November 2024, CM Patel had declared that Gujarat will leverage AI across its administrative framework and government departments to lead in technology-driven governance and socio-economic progress, in line with the vision of Viksit Gujarat@2047.To realise this vision and embed AI in governance, healthcare, education, agriculture, fintech, and other critical sectors, an AI taskforce, a committee of 10 experts, was established.Based on the recommendations of the task force, Patel has approved the action plan, the release stated.The action plan will serve as a time-bound blueprint to equip the state government with advanced AI capabilities. Furthermore, it will foster a robust, innovative AI ecosystem that ensures seamless service delivery, improved citizen welfare, and enhanced quality of life with prosperity.To ensure the structured and timely implementation, the state will establish a dedicated ' AI and Deep Tech Mission ', said the release.This mission will function as a specialised institutional mechanism, leading the design, implementation, and innovation of AI strategies and emerging technologies within the state government.Additionally, it will strengthen a robust ecosystem by fostering collaboration among startups, academic research, and industries. The mission will focus on skilling, reskilling, and upskilling the workforce in AI and related technologies, said the release. PTI

Avg cost of data breach in India rises 13 pc to ₹22 cr this year: Report
Mumbai, Aug 7 (PTI) The average cost of an organisation for a data breach has risen 13 per cent to ₹ 22 crore in 2025 from ₹ 19.5 crore in the year-ago period, according to a report released on Thursday. However, despite the surge in costs, the security in artificial intelligence is still lacking, the report by global tech major IBM said. Phishing, or the act of sending fraudulent communication to extract personal information, is the top attack vector, with the usage in 18 per cent of incidents, followed by third-party vendor and supply chain promises at 17 per cent, while vulnerability exploitations accounted for 13 per cent. The research sector in India faced the highest impact from data breaches, with average cost reaching ₹ 28.9 crore, closely followed by the transportation industry at ₹ 28.8 crore and the industrial sector at ₹ 26.4 crore. Amid the widespread use of AI, it said nearly 60 per cent of the breached organisations either don't have an AI governance policy or are still developing a policy. Organisations are bypassing security and governance for AI in favour of do-it-now AI adoption, the IBM report said. "While AI is being rapidly embedded across business operations, security and governance are being left behind. The absence of access controls and AI governance tools is not just a technical oversight; it's a strategic vulnerability," Viswanath Ramaswamy, vice president, technology at IBM India and South Asia, said. The company has come up with the 'Cost of a Data Breach Report' for the last two decades, and has investigated nearly 6,500 data breaches for the same.

The funding, part of Democratic President Joe Biden's Solar for All programme, was awarded to 60 recipients including states, tribes and regions for investments such as rooftop solar and community solar gardens. Solar, a renewable energy, is widely regarded as a way to introduce cleaner power onto the electrical grid and lower energy bills for American consumers. India extends condolences to government of Ghana over helicopter crash
New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) India on Thursday extended condolences to the government and people of Ghana over the tragic crash of a Ghanaian military helicopter a day ago in which several people including two ministers of the west African country died. The Ministry of External Affairs said, 'Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those affected by this unfortunate incident." Ghana's defence and environment ministers and other top officials were killed in the incident, according to reports. 'The Government of India expresses its profound sorrow on the tragic crash of a Ghanaian Air Force helicopter in the Ashanti Region of Ghana on August 6, 2025, which resulted in the loss of several lives, including the Hon'ble Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and the Hon'ble Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed," the MEA said in a statement. 'We extend our deepest condolences to the Government and the people of the Republic of Ghana during this time of national mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those affected by this unfortunate incident. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace," it said.
