More intermittent rains, windstorms likely
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have penetrated most parts of Pakistan which would strengthen within the next 24 hours. A westerly wave has also affected most central, southern parts of the country.
From July 6 to July 8, heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs, streams of Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and northeast Punjab. Downpour may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha and Faisalabad.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, districts such as Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, and Peshawar are likely to receive rain and thunderstorms from July 28 to 31. Punjab and Islamabad will see rain with scattered heavyfalls from July 28 to 31, affecting areas such as Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sialkot. Rain is also likely in southern Punjab (DG Khan, Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan) from July 29 to 31. Balochistan's northeastern and southern districts, including Quetta, Barkhan, and Zhob, may receive rain from the night of July 29 to July 31. In Sindh, hot and humid weather will persist, though rain is forecast for July 30 and 31 in districts such as Tharparkar, Sanghar, Sukkur, and Larkana. The PMD has warned that heavy rain could trigger flash floods in hill streams of Chitral, Swat, and other northern regions. Urban flooding is likely in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Sialkot. Landslides or mudslides may occur in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Kashmir. Strong winds and lightning may damage weak infrastructure, including kacha houses, electric poles, solar panels, and billboards. The public, travellers, and tourists have been advised to stay informed and avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas. Authorities have been urged to remain alert and take precautionary measures. Flood waters: Punjab CM's message on ‘World Drowning Prevention Day'
LAHORE: Terming the recent drowning of several people in flood waters as extremely painful and disturbing, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz said that millions of people lose their lives worldwide every year due to not taking the risk of drowning seriously. In her message on 'World Drowning Prevention Day' she said this day raises awareness on taking precautions. She highlighted, 'Water is a symbol of life, but if not taken seriously, it can also cause death. Prevention of drowning in canals, rivers, flood drains or sea is possible only with caution.' She underscored, 'There is a ban on bathing in canals, lakes and rivers throughout Punjab. Warning, sign system and monitoring are being ensured for effective ban on bathing.' She added, 'Rescue 1122 teams are fully mobilized to save public from drowning.' She appealed to the parents to prevent children from bathing in flooded drains, canals and rivers. PTA directs uninterrupted services amid rain relief efforts
ISLAMABAD: As flash floods and landslides wreak havoc across parts of Pakistan due to the ongoing monsoon spell, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an urgent advisory to telecom operators to ensure uninterrupted communication services and support relief efforts. To coordinate emergency telecom measures, the PTA has established the National Emergency Telecommunication Coordination Centre (NETCC). This body will oversee the implementation of contingency plans and ensure that vital mobile and internet services remain operational in the affected areas. According to the advisory, all telecom operators have been directed to activate their emergency protocols immediately. Special instructions have been issued to secure critical telecom infrastructure in sensitive regions to prevent further disruptions. 'In the event of any major technical failure, operators must inform PTA Headquarters without delay,' the advisory states. Additionally, service providers are required to submit service restoration reports every six hours to monitor recovery progress in real time. The PTA has also emphasised the importance of public awareness during the crisis. Mobile operators are to disseminate flood-related alerts, evacuation information, and emergency contacts in both national and regional languages, helping ensure timely response and public safety. Further directives include the deployment of temporary mobile units in heavily affected regions, activation of franchises by local loop operators to manage complaints, and the presence of staff at mobile top-up points to assist users. Essential telecom services such as SIM issuance, balance recharge, and other basic facilities must continue without interruption, the advisory notes. The PTA has also called for the deployment of trained personnel at local and regional levels for field operations and on-ground support. Lastly, the PTA urged operators to prioritise communication services for relief and emergency personnel, underscoring the critical role of telecom networks in disaster management and response.
