70 per cent of WHO's total vaccines are sourced from India: Minister Anupriya Patel
NEW DELHI: India continues to be a leading supplier of vaccines and as much as 70 percent of World Health Organisation's total vaccines are sourced from the country, the Centre said on June 16.
'..India has emerged as a global hub for affordable healthcare solutions and continues to deepen its partnerships with nations through knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and health diplomacy,' said Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel.
Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural session of Second Policymakers' Forum, which aims to strengthen global collaboration on drug standards and access to affordable medicines, she emphasised India's commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality-assured medicines.
The minister also stressed the importance of regulatory harmonisation in facilitating global health equity.
She also recalled that during the COVID-19 pandemic, India started the 'Vaccine Maitri' initiative and supplied vaccines to more than 100 friendly countries, which depicts India's deep sense of responsibility towards global health and its intention of helping friendly countries in times of distress.

Hyderabad: Union minister and state BJP president G Kishan Reddy on Monday conducted a detailed inspection of Gandhi Hospital, assessing its infrastructure, staffing and services. City reports one more Covid-linked death but cases on decline
Mumbai: On Monday, the city reported one more death linked to Covid-19, taking the total number of deceased here since May to six. The deceased was a 44-year-old woman with chronic liver cirrhosis. The total Covid-linked deaths in the state now stand at 29. Health officials said since the surge began in May, only those with severe comorbidities succumbed, which is too few when compared to the large population of the state. The state recorded 34 new cases on Monday, of which 12 were in Mumbai. This is a sizable decrease as the city was recording more than 20 to 30 cases every day this month. Other cases were reported from Pune Municipal Corporation (7), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (7), Navi Mumbai (1), Thane (1), Pimpri-Chinchwad (1), Satara (1), Sangli Municipal Corporation (1), Amravati (1), Amravati Municipal Corporation (1), and Nagpur (1). Health officials said all diagnosed patients had mild symptoms. Prior to the recent cases, there was a 35-year-old heart patient who died at a private hospital in the city on June 13.

Puducherry hospital ends decade-long wait for MRI with major Rs 20 crore diagnostic upgrade
PUDUCHERRY: In a significant stride towards enhancing public healthcare infrastructure, the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Postgraduate Institute (IGGGH and PGI) in Puducherry has been equipped with a state-of-the-art Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory, along with digital MRI, CT scan, and mammogram facilities. The laboratory also features an automated nucleic acid extractor for faster sample processing and an automated ELISA processor capable of conducting simultaneous tests for dengue, chikungunya, scrub typhus, and more.
