Ashley's Pastry Shop has been open in Oakwood for 43 years.
They told News Center 7′s Mason Fletcher that they have had to raise their prices due to egg prices.
'In October, we were at $3.09 a dozen. (Wednesday), we got lucky. We paid $4.02 a dozen, I think. But the day before, we were at $4.89,' said Theresa Hammons, Ashley's Pastry Shop owner.
She explained to Fletcher they've felt the price hike.
'Oh, it's taken an effect on us, believe me. The prices have increased significantly,' said Hammons.
She said they use about 30 dozen eggs a day. But recently, they've been shopping for a little more.
'(Wednesday), we purchased 90 dozen eggs,' said Hammons.
She tells Fletcher they cannot use 90 dozen at once. So instead, they are cracking the eggs in-house and freezing them to be used later. Hammons said it locks them into the price they paid and helps protect them if costs increase.
'One of the reasons why we're so fortunate is to continue to watch those to watch our margins, to watch our profits,' she said.
Hammons said they will have to raise their prices. She added they will not go any higher than they must.
'The increases that we're taking are not profit-generating. They're simply the cost of goods generated. So, we're taking a gain from $2.25 to $2.30,' she told Fletcher.
Melissa Flannagan has been an Ashley's Pastry Shop customer for over 20 years. She tells Fletcher that she appreciates the transparency.
'It's understandable. You know, as a shopper and a consumer, you go to the store and see that they have doubled,' said Flannagan.
Hammons said the store is keeping an eye on egg prices.
They buy more when the cost is lower to benefit their customers but will shop in several places instead of clearing out one store.
News Center 7 checked around for the lowest egg prices:
Kroger on Wayne Avenue- $4.59
Meijer on Wilmington Pike- $4.29
Aldi in Centerville- $5.15

Gas prices $0.45 less per gallon in Georgia than last year, AAA says
The latest gas prices in Georgia remain lower than the year before, and are still going down even compared to the last month. AAA's gas price tracker shows that in Georgia, the state average gas price remained the same, a full five cents lower than in June. Compared to last year, AAA said prices in Georgia were 45 cents less than in 2024. 'Gas prices remain low across the country in many states, providing some relief for drivers; however, with hurricane season in full swing, any significant storms could disrupt supply and lead to higher prices at the pump,' Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman, said in a statement. 'It's a good time for drivers to consider fuel-saving strategies to prepare for potential fluctuations.'
