F-35B fighter jet: A US-made F-3B stealth fighter jet of the British Royal Navy– one of the world's most expensive warplanes– made an emergency landing at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala on Saturday, and remains grounded there for more than 72 hours. According to reports, the fighter jet, which is part of the UK's HMS Prince of Wales Carrier Strike Group, was forced to make an emergency landing at the airport due to low fuel.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is handling the matter, but a formal update on the F-35B fighter is awaited, according to Indian Defence PRO and Thiruvananthapuram airport officials. 'The IAF is fully aware and facilitated the aircraft for flight safety reasons. All assistance is being given, and the IAF is in coordination with all agencies,' said an IAF spokesperson.

As per officials, the fighter jet as launched from HMS Prince of Wales (R09)– the British Royal Navy's flagship aircraft carrier– about 100 nautical miles from the Indian coast in the Indo-Pacific region, where the HMS Prince of Wales Carrier Strike Group is currently operating, after conducting a series of joint exercises with the Indian Navy.
Why F-35B was forced to land at Thiruvananthapuram Airport?
After launch, the British fighter aircraft was unable to land due to inclement weather conditions in the region, and subsequently, the pilot contacted Air Traffic Control on an international distress frequency, seeking an emergency landing. The ATC diverted the aircraft to the Thiruvananthapuram Airport at 9:30 pm on Saturday, where it remains grounded, officials said.

Day after its emergency landing, the pilots of the British warplane were flown back to the HMS Prince of Wales aboard a AW101 Merlin helicopter, indicating that the fighter jet may take a while to be ready for operational use. The IAF has termed the incident a 'normal occurrence of diversion by F-35.'
The F-35B currently remains parked in the General Aviation terminal of the Thiruvananthapuram Airport under the watch of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, and requires IAF clearance before flying back, as per officials.
How much does the F-35B cost?
Developed by US arms maker Lockheed Martin, the F-35B is a custom variant of the F-35 operated by the British Royal Navy, and reportedly cost up to $109 million per unit. The 5th-generation stealth fighter features an advanced stealth made of radar-absorbing materials, internal weapons bays, and precisely aligned surfaces, making it extremely difficult for air defense systems and radars to detect.
The F-35B, which measures 51.2 feet in length and 14.3 feet in height, with a 35-foot wingspan, is capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 1.6, even when carrying a full internal payload of 6800 kg. It can weigh up to 60,000 pounds at takeoff.

‘He always stayed connected with his roots': Hundreds gather in Surat for funeral of British citizen, wife

It was 1.30 am; the streets of Surat were quiet and bare. But in the Haripura area of the city, outside Hasanji Kabristan, people had gathered in large numbers. They had come to bid final farewell to Akeel Nanabawa and his wife Hannaa Vorajee, who were among the 241 passengers killed in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. Their daughter, 4-year-old Sara, was also killed in the tragedy. Even though he was a British citizen, the connection of Akeel's family with Surat goes back several generations. Members of the Bohra community, which owns several properties across Surat, the Nanabawas are much renowned and respected in the city. Akeel's father Abdulla is yet to come to terms with the loss. 'There are no words to express my feelings about my son and his family. Only a few days back, we all had enjoyed Bakrid. I dropped him off at Ahmedabad for his return flight to London…' he tells The Indian Express. It was a surprise 6-day trip for Eid that had brought Akeel, Hannaa and Sara to Surat. 'His trip was short, but his company was memorable to me and will remain so forever,' says Abdulla. Outside the graveyard, as the crowds swelled for 'Namaz-e-Janaza' (funeral prayers), the mourners – including clerics, social workers, relatives, friends and members of the community — talked about how Akeel, despite not being born and raised in Surat, was always warm towards his neighbours. 'They were always warm, gentle, and friendly. Despite staying abroad, he had remained connected with his roots,' says Rashid, a family friend. The Nanabawas had been based in the UK for decades. Around 15 years ago, Abdullah had returned to Surat while his four sons and their mother stayed in Gloucester. The four brothers – all British citizens – would often come down to Surat to meet their father, says a neighbour. Akeel's younger brother Hamza and their mother Sajeda, who had flown down from London, were also present for the last rites. Akeel and Hanna were buried around 2am, next to each other. 'We could not follow the ritual of gusal (an Islamic ritual involving washing the body) before the burial. We were not allowed. It felt like something was incomplete,' says Rashid. While the funeral was underway, Abdulla received a call from Ahmedabad – Sara's remains had been identified. Later in the day, the four-year-old's funeral prayers were performed and she was laid to rest in the evening, close to her parents' graves.

This woman converted to Islam to break her marriage, became Queen of Rs 24,000 crore empire, emptied her treasury due to alcohol, was known for her lavish lifestyle

The Royals of India are famous all across the world. From the royal family of the Mewar dynasty to the Wadiyar royal family, there are many notable names in India. However, today, we will talk about a queen who, in order to break off her wedding, converted to Islam. This queen was known for her beauty, hobbies, and even alcohol habits. If you are wondering who we are discussing, then let us tell you—we are talking about Maharani Sita Devi. She came from the Madras state and was known for her beauty. When she met the Maharaja of Baroda for the first time on the golf course, she fell in love with him at first sight. Maharani was already married and the mother of a child, but all this could not stop her from falling in love with Maharaja Pratap Singh Gaekwad of Baroda. Maharaja Pratap Singh Rao Gaekwad was the father of eight children, whereas Sita Devi belonged to Madras. Sita was the daughter of King Mahapati Surya Rao Bahadur Garo and Queen Chennamma. Maharani Sita Devi and Maharaja Pratap Singh Rao Gaekwad wanted to get married, but Sita Devi's first husband was not ready to divorce her. In order to get married, Sita Devi converted to Islam, and that way she legally separated from her first husband. However, after converting to Islam, Sita Devi again converted to Hinduism to marry Maharaja Pratap Singh Gaekwad. After the marriage, many more hurdles arose. However, the British government denied to accepet the marriage of Maharaja Pratap Singh Rao Gaekwad and Maharani Sita Devi. The condition was that the heir of the Baroda royal family would be Pratap Singh's son only. Maharaja Pratap Singh Rao Gaekwad fixed an annual allowance of Rs 50 lakh for the queen. Not only this, the queen was given a lump sum of ₹6 crore from the government treasury. In an interview, Maharaja Pratap Singh Rao's nephew, Jitendra Singh Gaekwad, revealed that Maharani Sita Devi loved her hobbies and was knwon for them. She had jewellery worth lakhs and crores. Above that, her wardrobe was filled with silk sarees and jewellery, which garnered massive attention. In 1949, Sita Devi's 78.5-carat English Dresden diamond necklace became the talk of the town. This necklace was discussed in fashion magazines. She had a necklace made of Basra pearls, which cost $5,99,200; a diamond necklace, which cost $50,400 at that time; a necklace made of black pearls, which cost $4,200; and a pearl ring worth $33,600.
