1.45 Newmarket – Betfred Handicap (Class 2, 6f)
STANAGE switched stables from the Gosdens to the Easterbys last November and has been on the up in his two outings this year.
In March he won a Class 4 handicap over today's trip at Doncaster and last month he finished a useful third over course and distance in Class 2 company. He didn't get a smooth passage in the latter race and we think he could push the favourites and will finish at least in the first four here.
2.20 Newmarket – Suffolk Handicap (Class 2, 1m 1f)
HAND OF GOD looks a worthy favourite, having won each of his last three races – a sequence that began with victory over a mile here in 2023.
The lightly raced four-year-old won a pair of Class 2 races in 2024: the Esher Cup at Sandown in April and the Golden Gates Handicap at Ascot in June. Ryan Moore, who rode him in the first of those, returns in the saddle today.
2.55 Newmarket – Hong Kong Jockey Club Palace House Stakes (Group 3, 5f)
In what looks to be an open race over the minimum trip, we're banking on the age allowance for the three-year-old TROPICAL STORM to prove decisive.
Second in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, he ran disappointingly at Glorious Goodwood before bouncing back to win a Listed race at York and finish fourth in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster in September. Oisin Murphy's mount is a threat to his older rivals here.
3.35 Newmarket – 2,000 Guineas (Group 1, 1m)
It's hard to look beyond the favourite FIELD OF GOLD in the first Classic of the English Flat season.
John and Thady Gosden's colt has won three of his five races, including a course-and-distance victory in the Group 3 Craven Stakes on his seasonal reappearance last month. That day he came from last to first to win by three and a half lengths from Wimbledon Hawkeye, one of his 10 rivals here.
Two runners come here with Group 1 wins to their names. Ruling Court won the Middle Park Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes here last autumn, over six and seven furlongs respectively, with Expanded a neck behind him in the latter. Scorthy Champ won the National Stakes at The Curragh in September.

More info The Chase fans fumed "it's a joke" after the show was taken off air in a huge shake-up on Tuesday (June 3). The hit gameshow, which typically airs weeknights at 5pm on ITV1, was not aired this evening. Instead, the news was broadcast at 5pm, followed by the UEFA Women's Nations League match between England and Spain. However, The Chase fans were left frustrated when they went to tune into the gameshow, with many sharing their disapproval on X (formerly Twitter). "No Chase and Emmerdale today because of women's football, it's a joke," one person wrote, with another adding: "No #TheChase or much at all due to football? Like there's not enough sport on TV already? Switched off." A third said: "What's going on why is the news on at 5? Where is the Chase??" ‘That's Ryan Moore's ride' – Punters convinced after Epsom Oaks price collapse
PUNTERS are convinced they know who Ryan Moore will ride in the Epsom Oaks - after an intriguing price crash came seemingly out of nowhere. Aidan O'Brien has three in the Friday Classic ahead of Thursday's declarations. 1 But just who Moore would choose out of Giselle, Whirl and Minnie Hauk looked anyone's guess. Bookies thought they had some inkling as they made Minnie Hauk, who was 8-1 just 48 hours ago, the outsider of the Ballydoyle trio. But the Cheshire Oaks winner's price has been smashed into as short as 7-2 following a tidal wave of support. Punters think her odds crashing - and Giselle and Whirl's going the opposite way - are a sign Moore has chosen who he will partner, with one proclaiming: "That's Ryan Moore's ride." Paddy Power's Paul Binfield said: "The front two in the Oaks market have both been strong today, but particularly Cheshire Oaks heroine Minnie Hauk. "That support would indicate that punters are pretty sure that of Aidan O'Brien's three possible protagonists, Ryan Moore has chosen to partner this very talented Frankel filly." Whoever Moore rides will have to go some to beat Charlie Appleby's red-hot Oaks favourite Desert Flower, though. The 1000 Guineas winner has been obliterated into just 6-5 with some firms. Legendary jockey Kieran Fallon, who rides out at trainer Charlie Appleby's Moulton Paddocks yard, said she was a cut above. And punters think so too, with Desert Flower looking like she could be the shortest-price winner since O'Brien's 11-10 Love in 2020. Epsom Oaks odds via Paddy Power 5-4 Desert Flower 7-2 Minnie Hauk 7-1 Giselle, Whirl 10-1 Elwateen, Revoir 20-1 Quilin Queen, Wemighttakedlongway 50-1 Go Go Boots Commercial content notice: Taking one of the offers featured in this article may result in a payment to The Sun. Lazy Griff team hoping to secure Soumillon's Derby services
'He ran really well at Chester and wasn't fully spot on for that and wasn't too far behind Lambourn, so we're expecting him to improve fitness wise,' said Middleham Park's Mike Prince. Another favourite comes in! 🔥 Lambourn wins the Boodles Chester Vase Stakes 🥇#ITVRacing | @ChesterRaces — ITV Racing (@itvracing) May 7, 2025 'Lambourn is around a 12-1 chance and we know our lad is a guaranteed stayer and there will be a few in the field who are not, so he definitely warrants being in the race, that's for sure. 'We do need it to rain a little bit and he's a German bred and would need a little cut. Good ground is fine but if it was good to firm, we would then have to take a view. There is some rain around and we'll certainly declare and then hopefully the rain arrives.' In comparison to those towards the head of the betting like Ruling Court who cost Godolphin €2.3million and Ballydoyle candidate The Lion In Winter who was a €375,000 purchase, Lazy Griff was a relative bargain from Baden-Baden's BBAG September Yearling sale in 2023 at €75,000. Prince continued: 'It's very hard to compete at middle distances against the big owner-breeder conglomerates and we don't actually buy that many horses of that mould for that reason. 'We do try to just buy one or two horses each year that we hope would give us a chance and through bloodstock agent Jeremy Brummitt, that has come off this year. 'It's lovely to be there mixing it and he will be plenty long enough in the market. But we know he'll stay and there will be a few who won't, so it would be great to see him run well.' Christophe Soumillon is poised to ride Lazy Griff (Steven Paston/PA) Lazy Griff was ridden by the aforementioned Soumillon when scooping Group Three honours in the Prix de Conde as a juvenile and the Belgian pilot – who has made no secret of his desire to one day land Epsom's showpiece event – is now pencilled in to ride having taken a shine to the son of Protectionist at Chantilly. 'Christophe said when he won the Group Three that he loved the horse, he gave him a good feel and he'd love to ride him again,' added Prince. 'It made sense to try to book a jockey of that pedigree for the ride.'
