Emma Raducanu takes tips from men's number one ahead of facing Aryna Sabalenka

After training for 70 minutes at Wimbledon's Aorangi Park practice courts on Thursday afternoon, Raducanu sat with coach Mark Petchey and observed Jannik Sinner's warm-up session.
Raducanu has been making an effort to pay closer to attention to the skills of her fellow players, saying: 'I'm trying to learn by osmosis. He (Sinner) is so effortless when he hits the ball.'
Trying to squeeze everything she can out of her Wimbledon experience this year has been a theme of the 22-year-old's run so far, with Raducanu overjoyed about her performance in beating former champion Marketa Vondrousova on Wednesday.
While she can never go back to the carefree teenager she was prior to her US Open triumph, she appears to be finding a balance that allows her to enjoy the journey while pushing for the best destination she can.
The British number one is also clearly relishing having people she trusts in her corner, with Petchey, who first helped her remodel her serve back in 2020, accompanied on the practice court by Raducanu's friend and mentor Jane O'Donoghue.
O'Donoghue left her coaching career to work in finance but has taken a sabbatical from her job to help Raducanu out in tournaments around the world.

In the stands, meanwhile, are a group of Raducanu's friends from childhood, many of whom live in the United States but who use Wimbledon for a reunion each summer.
'I was out there with my friends,' said Raducanu after beating Vondrousova in one of her best performances at the All England Club.
'It's so rad. I have all of them here in one place. They've been my rock through everything. They're the closest people to me outside of my family. That was really special.
'I had the same sort of routine last year. I just really cherish these moments because we know how hard it is week to week playing on the tour.
'When we're here in this sort of environment feeling at home, it's so special. I think it's important to take it in. You don't know the next day how it's going to go.'
Taking on Sabalenka is the ultimate challenge in women's tennis at the moment, with the Belarusian holding a dominant lead at the top of the rankings and bidding to reach a fourth grand slam final in a row.
Raducanu looked relaxed in practice, drilling service returns in preparation for what will be a barrage of pace coming at her.
They have played once before, in Indian Wells last spring, when Sabalenka won in straight sets but in a close enough contest to give Raducanu encouragement.
The top seed has been tested in her first two matches, while the home crowd on Centre Court will play their part as well.
'Emma is playing much better tennis since last year, I have to say,' said Sabalenka. 'She improved. You can see that she's getting back on track. Also facing British at Wimbledon, I'm not sure I prefer that.'
Finding the right balance between attack and defence will be key for Raducanu, who said: 'I definitely think playing Aryna, she's number one in the world for a reason.
'You can't really do nothing or give nothing balls to her. I'm going to have to be aggressive but pick my moments and not kind of be overly (aggressive). I think you can fall into that trap, too.
'I don't think I'm going to go out there and out-power her. I think I'm going to have to try and be creative, as well.'
Raducanu is one of three British players who will play third-round matches on Friday, with Sonay Kartal and Cameron Norrie both taking to Court One.
Kartal, who is bidding to reach the last 16 at a slam for the first time, faces French qualifier Diane Parry while Norrie's reward for knocking out Frances Tiafoe is a meeting with unseeded Italian Mattia Bellucci.

Wimbledon star held back from umpire as crowd boo 'embarrassing' decision

A furious Ben Shelton was prevented from approaching the chair umpire after his Wimbledon match against Rinky Hijikata was suspended due to bad light as he was about to serve for the match. Shelton, 22, was on the verge of a straight-sets victory over Hijikata when the umpire made the decision to suspend the match. The 10th seed won the first two sets 6-2 7-5 and was about to serve for a place in the third round. Shelton had discussed the possibility of a suspension at the start of the third set but it looked as if the players would be able to get through the match as he led 5-4 on serve. Australia's Hijikata saved three match points in the previous game and will live to fight another day after the umpire called time at the following changeover. 'Ladies and gentleman, play is suspended due to darkness,' the umpire announced at just before 9.30pm, sparking raucous boos from the crowd on Court Two. Shelton was furious with the decision and walked in the direction of the chair umpire only to be ushered away by another match official. Ben Shelton reacts to his match against Rinky Hijikata being suspended at 9:29 PM local match will be resumed tomorrow after play is suspended due to darkness. — SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) July 3, 2025 After composing himself, Shelton gestured to the spectators who were deprived of the chance to see him finish the match and book his place in the third round of Wimbledon. A commentator on American TV said: 'Oh my goodness. This is unbelievable. The officials have painted themselves into a corner. 'It's a tough situation but they [the officials] did this to themselves by not stopping in at 4-2 when they were willing to go off. 'Now Ben's furious that they're stopping. He's got to come out tomorrow cold and serve for the match.' The decision was branded 'embarrassing' and 'ridiculous' by many fans on social media. The match will resume on Friday, depriving Shelton of a full day-off ahead of his likely third-round clash with the winner of Gael Monfils vs Marton Fucsovics. That second-round match was also suspended on Thursday evening after Fucsovics won a tie-break to level at two sets apiece. Earlier in the week, Taylor Fritz's clash with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard had to be completed the following day after officials suspended the match despite there being around 45 minutes of playing time left. Both players were asked if they wanted to continue and as they did not agree – Perricard was keen to come back the following day – the officials opted to pause the match. World number one Jannik Sinner had no such problems as he eased his way into the third round with an emphatic win over Aleksandar Vukic. More Trending Sinner, seeking his maiden Wimbledon title, has dropped just 12 games across his first two matches at the All England Club. The three-time Grand Slam champion remains the second-favourite to win the men's title, however, behind two-time defending champions Carlos Alcaraz. Novak Djokovic, bidding to win a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title, is also through to the third round, but British number one Jack Draper was knocked out by former US Open winner Marin Cilic. World number ten Shelton is yet to reach the second week of Wimbledon but made it to the semi-finals of the Australian Open, where he lost to eventual winner Sinner. Sport stars pay tribute to late Doddie Weir in birthday video

Rugby stars Kenny Logan and Rob Wainwright and other sporting legends have paid tribute to the late Doddie Weir in a video released on what would have been his 55th birthday. The video has been created to honour the memory of Weir, and the legacy of the foundation he set up to find effective treatments for motor neurone disease (MND) after he was diagnosed with it in 2016. Weir founded the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation in 2017, and died in November 2022 aged 52. Those in the video include Olympic swimming medallist Duncan Scott, Olympic curling medallist Eve Muirhead, broadcaster and ex-footballer Ally McCoist, former England rugby player Mike Tindall and British and Irish Lions fly-half Fin Smith. Supporters from across the UK will wear Doddie tartan to work on Friday July 4, as part of a tradition marking what would have been the former rugby player's birthday. Kenny Logan, who played alongside Doddie as part of the 1999 Five Nations-winning Scotland side, said: 'Doddie was a leader in life, and he remains a leader in death. 'His memory inspires thousands of people, both inside and outside of the MND community, to take action and help bring an end to this devastating disease. 'We all know Doddie should still be here with us. He brought light and laughter into every room, even in the darkest days. It's up to all of us to dig deep, keep fundraising and finish what he started. 'We do it because we miss him. We do it because we love him. And we do it because nobody else should have to go through what he and his family did.' The My Name'5 Doddie Foundation has now committed almost £20 million to targeted research projects and launched a Catalysing A Cure strategy to speed up the search for effective treatments. Earlier this year it pledged £4 million to the MND Discovery Network, a new UK-wide initiative connecting leading scientists to accelerate progress. The film also features Jennie Starkey, who is living with MND and is part of the Foundation's Discovery Network board. The video comes after the end of the Doddie's Lions Challenge, in which a team led by Logan and including Ally McCoist, Gabby Logan, and Doddie's widow Kathy, cycled 555 miles around the island of Ireland in five days to deliver the match ball for the British and Irish Lions vs Argentina fixture in Dublin. The ride has so far raised almost £650,000 for MND research. My Name'5 Doddie Foundation chief executive Nicola Roseman, said: 'Doddie's spirit continues to galvanise the MND community. 'The outpouring of support and emotion on what would have been his 55th birthday shows just how many lives he touched and how much his story still matters. It also reminds us that there is still work to be done. 'Every birthday that passes without Doddie is another reminder of the urgency of our mission.'
