‘Traitors' star Dylan Efron saves two women from drowning in Miami ocean: ‘People screaming in the water'
The 'Traitors' star recounted the heroic tale on Thursday's episode of 'Brooke and Connor Make a Podcast,' sharing that it was his first time visiting South Beach in Miami.
Efron, 33, was with his friend Brennon and his 'Traitors' co-star Sam Asghari.
'I just walk up the shore for the first time ever, and I'm looking out, and there's people screaming in the water,' Efron recalled, adding that he didn't initially think it could be a shark because 'the currents were ripping.'
'I just saw five girls, like, their hands were up, screaming. There's people on the shore with their hands up,' he continued.
'So I just looked around, and there's no lifeguards around. … Me and Brennon just look at each other, and we just sprinted out there.'
The 'Down to Earth with Zac Efron' producer noted that there were two women in the water who were closer to shore who 'already had a guy helping them in,' while the other three were 'out further.'
'So I swam one in, swam back for another girl,' he explained.
'The last girl I swam in, I was just trying to calm her down. Just saying, 'Breathe. Breathe.' And she's just wrapped me in the biggest hug, like, doesn't wanna let go. So we hugged for like a full minute, just hugging this girl on the shore. I'm like, 'You're safe. You're good.''
According to Zac Efron's younger brother, the girl 'never said [another] word' to him, and they both 'just walked away.'
He described the experience as 'random' and 'really real.'
When asked whether he hesitated to enter the ocean given the powerful rip current, Dylan replied, 'I'm in the water a lot, so I just felt comfortable.'
However, he did point out that he and Brennon 'ended up, like, a football field length away' from where they first entered the water.
'The current was strong,' he reiterated. 'The girls probably just got a little too far and got scared.'
After that, Dylan said officials directed everyone in the ocean to come back to land.

Biggest moments from the Last Culturistas Awards, the show for the meme age
Missed the biggest moments from the Last Culturistas Culture awards? I don't think so, honey! The ceremony, essentially one long bit hosted by "Saturday Night Live" star Bowen Yang and his podcast cohost Matt Rogers, aired on Bravo Tuesday, Aug. 5. With over 100 categories, it is the ultimate entertainment industry spoof, swapping competitions like "best supporting actress" for "excellence in lesbianism" (which was not won by an actual person but instead by "probably your grandma even though she was married to your grandpa for 50 years.") Once a smaller offshoot of Rogers and Yang's popular "Las Culturistas" podcast, the awards show, televised for the first time this year, appeared more like a bona fide Hollywood event than an inside-turned-outside joke. Filmed in July, the awards brought major stars like Allison Janey, Jeff Goldblum and Ben Platt to the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. Here's a look at the biggest (and oddest) awards of the night. Eva Longoria Award for Tiny Woman, Huge Impact Winner: Quinta Brunson The "Abbott Elementary" star was presented the award by "Survivor" star and recent memoirist Parvati Shallow. Brunson, who is under 5 feet tall, was nominated alongside the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sabrina Carpenter. "I want to say: To every bathroom mirror that told me I couldn't see, I can see me now!" she said in her acceptance speech. Creatine Award for Straight Male Excellence Winner: Andy Samberg A jocular spin on hypermasculinity, the award, presented by hunks-of-the-moment Dylan Efron and Jack Quaid went to "SNL" alum Samberg. In an ironically fratty fit and tone, the comedian accepted the honor by saying: "It's not that complicated, bro. Just do the work like I do: Rise and grind. When your wife hands you a thank you card she wrote, sign it. And broskis, you gotta wash your hands at least once a week." Best New Artist Award Winner: Gabby Windey The "Bachelor" alum took home the sincerely named but sarcastically doled out Best New Artist award, winning no doubt for her turn as a fan favorite on the reality show "Traitors." Like Yang and Rogers, she hosts a popular podcast, "Long Winded." "This is not the first time a gay man has helped me win something," Windey, who won "Traitors" alongside Efron, joked in her speech. "Big shoutout to Dylan Efron." (Efron is in a long-term relationship with his high school girlfriend.)

Tennis champion Naomi Osaka invites audiences to tag along as she explores Tokyo in the debut episode of 'Off Day,' a new travel series on YouTube following athletes touring well-known cultural and culinary destinations on their days off. The series was developed and produced by UltraBoom Media — the company helmed by producers of 'Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown' and 'Down to Earth with Zac Efron' — together with LeBron James' Uninterrupted, Osaka's Hana Kuma, and in partnership with The Infatuation, Chase Travel and Chase Sapphire. Join Forces to Grow in Film, TV, Documentary, Live Events and Branded Content LeBron James and Netflix Sued by Writer Who Claims 'Rez Ball' Ripped Off His Script ''Off Day' sits at the intersection of two of our most celebrated universal languages, food and sports. Two things that transcend borders, languages, and cultures,' stated UltraBoom Media's Erik Osterholm, who founded the company alongside Michael Simkin, Carrie Kaylor and Omar Mullick last year. 'The show reflects the kind of storytelling we set out to create when launching UltraBoom Media, leaning into our diverse global production and creative experience,' Osterholm continued. 'We love that 'Off Day' hands the storytelling baton to the athletes, immersing us in their POV and is designed for a new world of entertainment and audience engagement. 'Off Day' is a show, but it's also a limitless brand that we're excited to share with the world.' UltraBoom Media is developing 'Off Day' to expand into additional formats and iterations, including 'Off Mic' with comedians, 'Off Stage' with musicians, 'Off Script' with actors, and 'Off Menu' with chefs. New episodes launch every other week on YouTube via Uninterrupted; upcoming episodes include MLB all-star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. touring Toronto, NBA star Alperen Sengun in Istanbul and Aryna Sabalenka, currently the No. 1 ranked tennis player in the world, in New York City. 'As both an executive producer and someone featured in the first episode, 'Off Day' is really special to me,' said Osaka. 'We created Hana Kuma to tell layered, honest stories like this — ones that go beyond the game and show the person. I'm proud to kick it off and to collaborate with Uninterrupted and UBM, who share our vision of showing athletes in a fuller, more human light.' Likewise, Uninterrupted VP Elyse Kellogg noted how the new series reflects the company's 'commitment to creative storytelling from the athlete's point of view by giving fans a deeper look into the culture and lifestyle of their favorite athletes. It also marks a broader effort to grow our storytelling and distribution through strategic partnerships — in ways that feel personal and relatable.'
