Bill Hader stars as the trouble-making feline in the latest animated iteration, The Cat in the Hat. On Tuesday, July 1, Warner Bros. gave the first glimpse at the latest take on the character — originated in Dr. Seuss' iconic 1957 children's book of the same name — in the first teaser trailer.
'There's a movie I've been working on for a long time. Like, really long,' Hader, 47, teased in a video shared ahead of the trailer. (The film was first announced back in 2018, according to Variety.)
In the film, the titular cat 'has been reimagined in a way that's hilarious and unlike anything you've seen before,' Hader said in the video.
The comedian also teased that the location of the new movie will be an 'expansive new universe,' which separates it from the 2003 Mike Myers live-action adaptation set in the fictional town of Anville.
In the same video, Hader also announced the star-studded voice cast, which includes Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, America Ferrera, Xochitl Gomez, Tituss Burgess, Matt Berry, Tiago Martinez, Paula Pell and Giancarlo Esposito.
'I can't wait for you to see these unique worlds with different styles of animation, which are so beautiful,' Hader said. 'I love how they frame and shape each world you travel through.'
Further teasing The Cat in the Hat first look, the Saturday Night Live alum joked, 'I had to bribe some officially-looking officials to get this out, and now I'm broke — but it's worth it. You're gonna love it.'
A synopsis teases, "Doing what he does best, the Cat spreads joy to kids in his hilarious, signature and singularly irreverent way, transporting them and audiences on a fantastical journey through a world they've never seen before."
"Our hero takes on his toughest assignment yet for the I.I.I.I. (Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC): to cheer Gabby and Sebastian, a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town. Known for taking things too far, this could be this agent of chaos's last chance to prove himself ... or lose his magical hat!"
An in-progress version of a trailer for the adaptation debuted at CinemaCon 2025 earlier this year, with the head of Warner Bros. Animation Bill Damaschke describing it as the "doorway into our own Seussiverse,' according to Entertainment Weekly.

'We all know the cat cheers up and brings joy to kids on rainy days. In our film, he will get his toughest assignment yet and have to up his game to keep that hat,' Damaschke teased at the convention, per EW. 'It expands the story way beyond the book."
Before Hader — who also memorably played a live-action version of the Cat in a 2014 SNL sketch — it was Myers who brought the Dr. Seuss character to life on the big screen. The Canadian actor and SNL alum played the cat in the 2003 film, which starred Spencer Breslin and Dakota Fanning as a sibling duo who — along with Myers' character — butt heads with a villainous Alec Baldwin.
More recently, PBS Kids seriesThe Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That! starred yet another SNL alum, Martin Short, as the titular feline. The educational children's show ran from 2010 to 2018, per IMDb.
The Cat in the Hat is in theaters Feb. 27, 2026.

James Gunn's ‘Superman' Cracks $300 Million At Domestic Box Office

Superman — James Gunn's Man of Steel tale starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan — just reached a big box office milestone as it heads into its fourth weekend in theaters. Written and directed by Gunn, Superman opened on July 11 and earned $125 million at the domestic box office in its first three-day frame from 4,135 theaters. The film marks the first DC Studios release from Gunn and his fellow co-CEO Peter Safran after they took over the division at Warner Bros. Forgoing the origin story route, Gunn's version of Superman picks up with Superman already a well-established force for good in Metropolis, along with Clark Kent a fixture at the Daily Planet and boyfriend of Brosnahan's Lois Lane. Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) sends Superman's life into a tailspin, however, when the tech billionaire finds a way to turn the public against the Krypton-born superhero. Superman crossed the $300 million mark at the domestic box office on Thursday with $2.6 million in ticket sales, boosting its 21-day tally to $302.3 million. Combined with its international gross of $225.6 million through Thursday, Superman has earned $527.6 million worldwide to date. Superman had a production budget of $225 million and a marketing budget of $125 million, according to Variety. 'Superman' And 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Are In A Tight Race For The Top Superhero Movie Of The Summer While Superman still has momentum three weeks in release, it's still uncertain whether it will be the superhero film that flies the highest at this summer's box office. Superman easily soared by Disney and Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts* a week into domestic theater run. Thunderbolts* (aka The New Avengers) is looking like it will wrap up its domestic run this weekend in a mere 20 venues (via The Numbers). The film has a running North American box office tally of $190.1 million. Disney/Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps, however, has a shot at catching up with Superman, thanks to a solid domestic opening of $117.6 million from 4,125 North American screens. The Fantastic Four: First Steps heads into its second weekend with $158.4 million in domestic ticket sales and $99 million in international receipts for a worldwide box office tally of $257.4 million to date. Superman's theater count is dropping from 3,930 venues last week to 3,537 heading into its fourth weekend, per The Numbers. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is projected to easily win its second weekend at the domestic box office over three newcomers — the animated family comedy The Bad Guys 2, the action comedy The Naked Gun and the body horror thriller Together.

Jeremy Renner Plans to Return to Marvel: ‘My Body's Getting Ready'

Jeremy Renner is ready to step back into Hawkeye's suit. In a new interview with Empire, the actor said that he is 'sure' he will return as the Marvel superhero, either in a second season of Disney+ series Hawkeye or in a future MCU movie. 'I'm always happy to be in that world, man,' Renner said. 'I love all those guys, I love the character. I'm sure we'll end up doing Season 2 [of Hawkeye], and do other things. And I'm happy to do it. My body's getting ready for something like that. I don't know if anybody wants to see me in tights, but my body will look good in the tights.' 'I'm more than 150 per cent of what I was prior to the incident,' he told Empire. 'Having health and wellness be such a central part of my life, that's what's gotten me back. And even as I age, I just feel stronger than I've been. I have some issues, and tendon issues and certain limitations of flexibility and mobility, but I spent a lot of time on getting better and stronger, and I wouldn't if I didn't get crushed.' Earlier this year, Renner confirmed he previously passed on a second season of Hawkeye because he was offered 'half' of his pay from the first season. 'They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money,' the actor said. 'I'm like, 'Well, it's going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.' He alluded that the reason behind the lower offer was due to his accident, which crushed more than 30 bones in his body. 'I'm like, 'I'm sorry? Why? Did you think I'm only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that's why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season,'' he said. The first season of Hawkeye debuted on Disney+ in 2021 and starred Renner alongside Hailee Steinfeld and Florence Pugh. Renner also appeared as the character in several Marvel films, including The Avengers.
