Cop dies weeks after getting electrocuted while serving warrant in Surigao del Sur

A member of the Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) was electrocuted while serving a search warrant against a woman allegedly in possession of firearms in Barobo, Surigao del Sur on July 25, 2025. PRO-13 said that the cop, Pat. Jankent C. Tuazon, sustained serious injuries when the subject of the warrant allegedly activated an electric fencing system. The subject of the warrant, identified as a certain "Luisa," is accused of violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. Tuazon lost consciousness and was brought to the hospital where he was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia secondary to electrocution. Police said Tuazon was transferred later to another hospital in Butuan City where he was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy secondary to post-cardiac arrest caused by electrocution. On August 10, 2025, he succumbed to cardiac arrest at the intensive care unit (ICU). He was pronounced dead around 7:19 p.m. Tuazon was a member of the 1301st Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB-13). He joined the police organization on October 15, 2018. On Thursday, August 14, 2025, PRO-13 Director, Brigadier General Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV, visited Tuazon's wake in Barangay Magaud in Loreto, Agusan del Sur. He assured his family of financial support and other form of assistance. "With deepest sorrow, PRO-13 honors the selfless sacrifice of Pat. Jankent C. Tuazon. His untimely passing leaves a profound void not only within his bereaved family but also in the hearts of all who had the honor of serving alongside him. Your courage and sacrifice will never fade from our memory," Magistrado said. "Patrolman Tuazon embodied the true spirit of service—fearless in the face of danger, unwavering in his commitment to the law, and deeply devoted to protecting our people. His courage will forever inspire us, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten," RMFB-13 OIC, Lt. Col. Michael Lozada, also said. — GMA Regional TV

9 from courtship ritual dead as truck falls off cliff in Sultan Kudarat

At least nine people who were returning from a courtship ritual died after their mini dump truck fell off a 100-meter-high cliff in Barangay Christianueva in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat. According to Dano Tingcungco's Thursday report on '24 Oras,' police said the truck was carrying 24 passengers, including the driver. The victims were returning from a courtship ritual for Muslims in Barangay Poloy-Poloy on Wednesday when the vehicle supposedly lost its brakes while descending a curved portion of Highway 70. Police Regional Office (PRO) 12 noted the mountainous section where the accident occurred is dangerous. At least 15 persons, including the driver, were injured and brought to the hospital for medical treatment. Rescuers struggled to free the trapped victims from the truck, which lasted until 8 p.m. The Lebal Municipal Police Station said the roads are steep in the highly elevated area. On Thursday, the remains of the nine victims were laid to rest. GMA Integrated News has reached out to the driver, the victims and their families for comment. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
