Diljit Dosanjh blames Shakira for making them late at Met Gala in BTS clip: ‘I knew she would make us late'
Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh recently made history by becoming the first Indian man to attend the Met Gala in a turban. Now, he has released a BTS video from his Met Gala appearance, sharing the process behind crafting his iconic look.
In the BTS video, Diljit is seen meeting his Nepalese-American fashion designer Prabal Gurung as he takes his first look at the costume. The singer appears excited to see his attire but also points out to viewers that the Punjabi alphabet written on the back of his cap is the 'highlight' of his costume. Lauding the singer, Prabal is seen saying, 'I love his work. He is one of the biggest Indian stars who has been able to crossover in the western world without compromising on who he is. He is true to his identity. All my friends, even the goras love him.' Diljit adds, 'Our attire is going to be the best.' Later in the clip, Diljit is seen burning it out at the gym. He also shows the '11:11' sign on his phone to the camera.
In the next segment of the clip, Diljit Dosanjh is seen getting ready and wearing the heavy jewellery that complements his Maharaja-inspired attire. Diljit paid tribute to Patiala's Maharaja Bhupinder Singh by wearing an ivory sherwani-inspired suit at the Met Gala. The singer also quipped while getting ready, 'We would have won if this was a fancy dress competition.'
Talking about representing Punjabi culture on a global platform, he said, 'I am trying to bring Punjab to the Met Gala red carpet.' Sharing his thoughts on the rising spotlight on Indian and Punjabi culture, he added, 'I feel it is late. This should have happened much earlier. Many artistes tried but things happen on their own time. Our culture is very rich. Many inspirations have been taken from India and recreated all over the world.'
When asked which celebrity he was excited to meet on the Met Gala red carpet, Diljit said, 'Don't take me wrong but I am excited that everybody will be looking at me.'
The video then shows Diljit Dosanjh entering a room where other celebrities like Nicole Scherzinger and Tessa Thompson are having their photoshoots done. Nicole even compliments Diljit on his look. Later, Diljit revealed that Shakira made everyone late because the zipper of her dress broke. He said, 'They are not taking us to main area, all the action is happening at the backstage itself. Takes us to the stage. I guess the zipper of Shakira's broke, that's why we are late. I knew we will be late because of Shakira.'
