He emphasised that long-term peace and stability in South Asia hinge on reciprocal nuclear risk reduction measures and a balanced approach within the broader geostrategic landscape.
He made these remarks during his keynote address at the opening session of a two-day international conference hosted by the Center for International Strategic Studies (CISS), Islamabad, titled, 'Nuclear Deterrence in the Age of Emerging Technologies.'
The event brought together a diverse group of leading international scholars and strategic experts to deliberate on global security issues and share insights on evolving deterrence doctrines.
Organised to promote meaningful dialogue on global strategic concerns and articulate Pakistan's perspective on nuclear deterrence, the conference attracted participation from prestigious institutions worldwide. These included the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), National Institute for Defence Studies (NIDS), Australia; Ploughshares Foundation, Canada; China Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA), Peking University; the Center for Polar and Oceanic Studies (China), the European Leadership Network (ELN), LSE School of Public Policy, Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS) in Russia, IMEMO RAS, Saint Petersburg State University (Russia), Geneva Center for Security Policy, North Carolina State University (USA), and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
Throughout the sessions, participants exchanged views on the implications of technological advancements on nuclear deterrence, regional stability, arms control, and global disarmament efforts. Experts stressed the urgency of evolving security doctrines to keep pace with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cyber capabilities, and space-based systems.

PM's Digital Youth Hub: over 0.5m youth registered so far
LAHORE: Over 0.5 million young individuals have so far registered at Prime Minister's Digital Youth Hub within short span of two months. This registration highlights government's commitment to empowering youth through digital skills and opportunities, sources said. More than 1000 domestic and foreign companies have also signed up on digital youth hub, the sources added. The Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP) is Pakistan's flagship initiative dedicated to empowering its youth, recognizing them as the country's greatest asset. With over two-thirds of Pakistan's population under the age of 30, the nation is experiencing a youth bulge—a defining demographic opportunity that, if harnessed effectively, can drive economic growth, innovation, and social progress. The PMYP operates under the 4Es framework — Education, Employment, Engagement, and Environment ensuring a holistic approach to youth development. Through dynamic and integrated initiatives, PMYP equips young Pakistanis with education, skills, employment, and entrepreneurial opportunities, while fostering engagement in sports, volunteerism, policy-making, and environmental action to create a sustainable future. It may be noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had rolled out the 'Digital Youth Hub' (Prime Minister's Youth Programme), aiming to get Pakistan's young talent working smarter, not harder. Think of it as a one stop shop for the youth to connect to jobs, scholarships and skill-building programmes. It's essentially a career launch pad wrapped in tech. With about 64 percent of Pakistan's population under 30, PM Shehbaz Sharif's pitching the hub as the fix: provide training in modern skills like- Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology, enabling them to have a shot at real opportunities to actually thrive in today's job market, without crossing borders. India's growing water belligerence
That India is upping the ante against Pakistan is a fact that has found its best expression from its opposition to the supplemental award by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague by declaring that New Delhi does not recognize the court or its decisions. The PCA had issued an 'Award on Issues of General Interpretation of the IWT' in the Indus Waters Case, stating that India must let flow the waters of the western rivers for Pakistan's 'unrestricted use'. India, in my view, must not lose sight of the fact that Pakistan has already made its position in relation to India's decision of placing the Treaty in abeyance clear by declaring that any attempt to stop water flows into Pakistan would be considered an act of war. The Pakistan's government's resolve is quite clear. The prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, for example, has issued a stern warning to India by stating, among other things, that New Delhi cannot 'snatch even one drop of water belonging to Pakistan'. It is, therefore, about time the world community took steps aimed at reining in India in the larger interest of peace in the region and beyond without any further loss of time.
