Mbappe breaks 71-year record in Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Mallorca
The Frenchman broke the record for most LaLiga goals in the debut season for Los Blancos.
It was Mbappe's 32nd league game and the former PSG star netted his 28th league goal in the 2-1 win against Mallorca.
With two matches left, the France international can add to his tally
Di Stéfano held the record for 71 years, as he scored 27 goals in the 1953-54 season.
Meanwhile, it was a difficult game for Real Madrid who needed an injury-time winner to keep the title race alive at least for another 24 hours.
Jacobo Ramon found the back of the net (90+5′) after Martin Valjent gave the visitors the lead (11′) and Mbappe scored in the 68th minute.
Carlo Ancelotti's side's defeat to Barcelona last weekend was a big blow to their title defence as they are now four points behind the Catalans who will play their local derby against Espanyol on Thursday.
Barca can be confirmed league winners today with a win, but a draw or loss would see the race go down to the wire in the final two games.
Di Stéfano scored 306 goals in 392 appearances for Los Blancos.

Santos fires coach and Neymar in tears after 6-0 loss at home
Ammon News - Santos fired its coach, Cleber Xavier, after a 6-0 home loss Sunday to Vasco Da Gama that saw Neymar leave the field in tears after the match. 'The club thanks the coach for the services provided,' Santos said of Xavier, who only took over in April, 'and wishes him luck in the continuation of his career.' The result left Santos – famously the club of Brazil great Pele and now Neymar – in 15th place in the 20-team Brazilian top flight, two points above the relegation zone. Neymar was consoled on the field by a member of Santos' backroom staff after a game that saw Vasco's Philippe Coutinho score twice. The 33-year-old Neymar, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star, returned to his boyhood club in January after a spell in Saudi Arabia and signed a contract extension in June keeping him at Santos until the end of the year.
