In men's singles, Sathish Karunakaran, champion at the 2023 Odisha Masters and 2024 Guwahati Masters, will take on top seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark.
World junior championships bronze medallist Ayush Shetty, who reached the Taipei Open semifinals, will face Canada's Brian Yang, while Priyanshu Rajawat opens against Singapore's Jia Heng Jason Teh.
In mixed doubles, world number 19 Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto will face a qualifier. Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde will begin against fourth-seeded Chinese pair Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui, while Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh meet top seeds Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin.
Sathish will also pair up with Aadya Variyath in mixed doubles to face Malaysia's Roy King Yap and Valeree Siow.
In men's doubles, the pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi will be in action.
Women's doubles will see Indian participation from Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi, Vaishnavi Khadkekar and Alisha Khan, as well as Prerana Alvekar and Mrunmayee Deshpande.
In the qualifiers, Kidambi Srikanth, S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian, and Tharun Mannepalli will vie for spots in the men's singles main draw, while Anmol Kharb and Tasnim Mir will aim to qualify in the women's section.

Dream11 to shut real money gaming operations, focus on alternatives, says report
Dream Sports, the parent company of fantasy gaming major Dream11, is reportedly set to shut down its real money gaming (RMG) operations, following India's new Online Gaming Bill 2025, according to Entrackr, citing sources. Livemint reached out to the company seeking an official statement on the report, and Dream11 declined to comment. Speaking to the publication, the sources said that staff was informed about the decision to shut down real money gaming operations via an internal town hall on August 20. They added that RMG contributes to over 67 per cent of Dream Sports' annual revenues. The Entrackr report further cited another source saying that Dream11 will move from RMG to expand instead into non-real money options such as Sportz Drip and Fancode. Besides this, focus will reportedly also move to its other investments such as Willow TV and Cricbuzz and expansion into overseas markets. 'The firm is also likely to explore new game formats for overseas markets, similar to the strategy adopted by Mobile Premier League (MPL),' a second source the online publication. This source added that impact of the RMG section would have a ripple effect, triggering 'severe cost-cutting measures, including mass layoffs, as the RMG business employed the majority of the firm's workforce'. The Rajya Sabha on August 21 approved the Online Gaming Bill, 2025, sealing the deal on the Indian government banning all forms of online money games in the country. The bill was approved by the Lok Sabha on August 20. The bill 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025' was presented in the Upper House by Union Minister of Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, who said the legislation will promote two-thirds of the online gaming segment, but will ban online money games, 'which have become a big problem for society, especially middle-class youth'. 'There is addiction. The family's savings are lost. It is estimated that 45 crore people have fallen victim to it. More than ₹ 20,000 crore of our middle-class families' hard-earned money has been destroyed,' Vaishnaw said. Besides online real money gaming, the bill also seeks to prohibit ads related to such games, and bars banks and financial institutions from facilitating or transferring funds for any of such games. Online money games are played by depositing money in expectation of winning monetary and other rewards. The bill proposes that any person offering an online money gaming service in violation of the stipulated provisions will face imprisonment of up to three years or a fine that may extend to ₹ 1 crore or both. 1 crore or both. The provisions also stipulate imprisonment of up to two years and or a fine of up to ₹ 50 lakh, or both, for those indulging in advertisements in contravention of rules.

Will KL Rahul, Siraj play Duleep Trophy? BCCI tells state associations to pick India players after top Test cricketers were ignored by South Zone
Irked by the non-selection of top players like KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj for the Duleep Trophy squad by South Zone, the BCCI has sent a letter to all state associations to select centrally contracted cricketers for the domestic season opener. The BCCI sent an email last week after a few associations didn't pick international players for the premier domestic tournament scheduled to start on August 28 in Bengaluru. The move was primarily triggered by South Zone's decision not to select Rahul, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna, Sai Sudharsan, and Siraj. The Indian players are currently getting a month-long break after the England tour. The BCCI's general manager cricket operations Abey Kuruvilla emailed the associations about the need to honour the premier domestic tournament. 'To uphold its prestige and ensure the highest quality of competition, it's imperative that all currently available India players are selected for their respective zonal teams. Requesting the Zonal Convenors to ensure that all the current India players who are available to play Duleep trophy should be picked,' Kuruvilla wrote in an email accessed by The Indian Express. Last year, in February, the BCCI had laid down the rule that it's 'mandatory' for international players to make themselves available for all domestic cricket, after they had noticed a trend of some players 'prioritising IPL over domestic cricket'. This year, again, after the series in Australia concluded in January, the board had yet again reiterated that it was mandatory for players to play domestic cricket. However, many state associations feel that international stars should play for India A or Board president XI teams instead of Duleep or Deodhar Trophy. Their reason is that because of this influx of national players, the Ranji players who had worked hard through a season are forced to make way for international stars in Duleep Trophy. They argue that their players who had done well in past seasons don't get rewarded for their performance once these Indian players walk into the side. South Zone was the first team to pick their Duleep Trophy squad on July 27 and they named Tilak Varma as the captain. The BCCI hadn't issued their diktat at that point. However, there is no clarity whether South Zone will change their squad now, post the email from Kuruvilla. Top players like Shubman Gill (Test captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Shreyas Iyer will be playing for their respective zones in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. Additionally, in his mail, Kuruvilla had written that all the contracted players have to adhere to the guidelines sent to them. 'Participation in domestic matches: All players contracted or otherwise, who make themselves available for selection into team India, shall participate in domestic matches conducted by BCCI. In case, any player opts not to participate in any domestic cricket tournaments in spite of availability, he/she shall not be considered for selection unless a prior recommendation is obtained to skip the match/tournament form the National coach and the chairman of selection committee, and prior approval from the BCCI. In case of any leave is granted the same shall be considered on the basis of some valid and cogent reason,' Kuruvilla added. For the 2025 Duleep Trophy, the teams are selected by zonal selectors, not the national selectors, as the tournament has returned to a zonal format. Last season, it was a national selector-picked, team-based tournament. The Indian board this year decided to return to the traditional zonal-based format.

New Faces Galore As Khalid Jamil Era Begins In Indian Men's Football
It's a new start for the Indian senior men's national team under head coach Khalid Jamil, who began his first camp on Independence Day. Six days and five training sessions into the new coach's system, the Blue Tigers' old stripes have begun to blend in with the new. There are four first-timers in Jamil's camp of 25 players – defenders Alex Saji, Sunil Benchamin, Muhammed Uvais, and forward Manvir Singh. While he continues to train the current 25 players, the India head coach has kept a keen eye on the ongoing Durand Cup, frequently calling up players as and when they are made available by their respective clubs, as the Blue Tigers prepare for the CAFA Nations Cup 2025. 'My doors are always open to every player,' Jamil said. 'The CAFA Nations Cup will be an excellent opportunity for us to test our players against quality teams. Some players may not be in the squad right now because I want to try a few other less-tested ones, but rest assured, we will bring our best available squad for the Asian Cup qualifiers.' Manvir Singh, the 24-year-old forward, who has been called up for the first time, has been waiting for this moment for quite some time. 'I've waited six years to put on this jersey once again,' he said, pointing to the India badge on his chest. The last time he was a part of the national team setup was back in 2019, when he represented the India U19s in the AFC U19 Championship (now Asian Cup) Qualifiers. However, as a traditional centre-forward, Manvir has more points to prove than most. 'As a striker in India, I know how difficult it is to get a chance. I got that during the Durand Cup and gave my best,' said Manvir, who got four starts in the tournament, netting once against Tribhuvan Army from Nepal. 'Now I feel like I have another chance, and I cannot afford to miss it. I have played under the coach (Khalid Jamil), and he knows my capabilities. I've just promised myself that if he gives me a chance, I have to take it, I must repay his trust.' Army man Sunil Benchamin got his maiden national camp call-up at the age of 32. While the Indian Army has a longstanding tradition of having its very own represent the country at the international level, the last player from the Army to don the Blue Tigers jersey was forward Subir Sarkar exactly four decades ago. 'I know it's difficult for those of us in the Army to get to this level these days. Football has changed. But now the Army is also helping us develop and play professionally, which has paved the way for me to get here,' said Sunil. 'I just want to do my best and leave the rest to the coach.' Full-back Muhammed Uvais may have been dreaming of a call-up, but was not expecting it, not in this camp at least – not after his name did not appear in the original list of 35 probables. However, his performance during the 2025 Durand Cup was enough to convince head coach Jamil. 'I think my performances with Punjab FC played a big role (in the maiden national call-up). I gave my best there, and I'm glad it helped me earn this opportunity,' said Uvais. 'It's surreal to be called up to the national camp. Back home, everyone is proud.' Goalkeeper Albino Gomes has experienced the national camp in the past. However, it has been nine years since the 31-year-old was last called up to report for national colours. During this time, he suffered three major injuries, coming back each time to perform for his club. 'Just to see my name on the list of campers is a big achievement for me. I have suffered a lot with injuries,' said Gomes, who had his last injury almost three years ago. 'Of course, I will try everything possible to make it back and get my debut, but whether that happens or not, I am happy to be making such progress one step at a time.' With the Durand Cup reaching its final stages, more players are expected to join the Blue Tigers' camp before the final squad leaves for Hisor, where they will face hosts Tajikistan (August 29), IR Iran (September 1), and Afghanistan (September 4) in Group B of the CAFA Nations Cup 2025. The third-place match and the final will be held on September 8, in Hisor, Tajikistan, and Tashkent, Uzbekistan, respectively.
