Watsons Malaysia launches Exclusive 45+ Members Club to promote healthy ageing
IN a move to support Malaysia's ageing population and encourage active ageing, Watsons Malaysia has launched the Watsons 45+ Members Club, a specialised programme offering exclusive health and lifestyle benefits for individuals aged 45 and above.
With Malaysia officially classified as an ageing nation, the number of citizens aged 60 and above is expected to reach 15.3% by 2030.
Data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) projects that the percentage of Malaysians aged 65 and above will increase from 8.1% in 2024 to 14.5% by 2040.
Recognising this demographic shift, Watsons Malaysia aims to provide accessible wellness resources and preventive healthcare solutions tailored to the needs of mature adults.

The Watsons 45+ Members Club offers a range of benefits designed to support members on their wellness journey.
Customers will automatically be upgraded to the Watsons 45+ Member Club upon reaching their 45th birthday.
Members will receive a welcome pack containing discount vouchers worth RM130, a 5% discount on select vitamins and supplements, and two complementary health checks each year to monitor their well-being.
Danny Hoh, Chief Operating Officer of Watsons Malaysia, highlighted additional perks available to members, including monthly health promotions via the Watsons Community on WhatsApp, an exclusive e-stamp programme offering premium gift redemptions, and special partner deals tailored to the needs of the 45+ community.
Members will also be invited to wellness workshops and events throughout the year.
To commemorate the launch, Watsons Malaysia hosted a Pickleball session—an increasingly popular sport among active adults—allowing members to stay physically engaged and connect with fellow participants.

Queen Visits Hospis Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (Bernama) -- Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, today visited Hospis Malaysia, a charitable organisation that provides palliative care to patients suffering from chronic illnesses, such as cancer and kidney problems. The visit was a specially arranged event in conjunction with the official birthday of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. During the visit, Raja Zarith Sofiah spent more than two hours meeting patients receiving treatment at the centre, in addition to donating RM30,000 to Hospis Malaysia. Meanwhile, in her speech, Raja Zarith Sofiah said that she decided to visit Hospis Malaysia because she felt that there were still many Malaysians not aware of the importance of palliative care for family members. 'Hospis Malaysia can help provide palliative care, which is supportive care for patients with chronic illnesses. 'The responsibility of doctors and nurses at Hospis Malaysia is to provide advice and support to patients and their families, such as visiting and treating patients at home and to ease the patient's pain with effective medications,' said Her Majesty. Raja Zarith Sofiah said she became aware of palliative care since the late 1990s when the Johor Bahru Rotary Club often organised visits to homes of chronic patients, prompting Her Majesty to also become a volunteer and visit the patients at their homes. "Whenever there are seminars on palliative care, I will attend those seminars, and that was when I met Dr Ednin and palliative specialists from other countries," said Her Majesty.

Tackling avoidable blindness

Held at Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital (Thoneh), the event featured free eye screenings too. There were also public education activities to promote early detection and improve access to eyecare for underprivileged communities. The carnival was launched by Health (research and technical support) Ministry deputy director-general Datuk Dr Nor Fariza Ngah, Thoneh chairman Tengku Tan Sri Azlan Sultan Abu Bakar and chief executive officer Datuk Michael Goh. Dr Nor Fariza said early intervention was important to address avoidable blindness and reduce long-term health burden. 'Good vision is more than a health issue, it is a gateway to opportunity and independence,' she said. 'Early detection and timely treatment can reduce the risk of irreversible vision loss. The event was held at the Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital. 'This is why screening is so important as many patients do not realise they are losing sight until it is too late,' she added. The event was held in collaboration with Hospital Ampang, Hospital Serdang and Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Klang. Tengku Azlan said the effort symbolised what could be achieved through strong public-private collaboration. 'Our commitment to outreach and preventive care is ongoing as this is more than a one-off initiative. 'We believe eyecare should not be a luxury, but a basic right. 'Our work continues through long-term outreach efforts,' he added. Tengku Azlan said the public and private sectors came together at this event with a common purpose. Anwar shares royal compliment on Malaysia's medical expertise
PETALING JAYA: Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah praised the quality and expertise of doctors at the National Heart Institute (IJN) after receiving treatment there. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed this during the Higher Education Ministry's Ilmuan Malaysia Madani forum titled "Transport for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality and Sustainability of Public Transport." "His Majesty told me that, as someone with exposure to and experience with some of the world's best medical centres, he was very satisfied with the quality of service, excellence, and expertise of our doctors at IJN," he said. Anwar added that while the government welcomes criticism, Malaysians should also recognise national achievements, especially in healthcare. "So while we allow criticism, which is not a problem, we must also recognise the strengths we have, and there must be the drive to push ourselves to do better," he said. The Sultan of Brunei was in Kuala Lumpur for the 46th Asean Summit with other regional leaders. On May 27, he was reportedly feeling fatigued and was advised by health experts to rest at IJN. Anwar also spoke about his conversation with President of Guinea-Bissau General Umaro Sissoco Embaló, during which he asked why Malaysia was chosen despite limited bilateral trade. "His answer was that he follows developments here and sees Malaysia as a country on the rise, with significant potential. That's why he chose to come," he said. Embaló arrived today for a three-day visit—his first since taking office as president in February 2020. Malaysia and Guinea-Bissau established diplomatic relations in November 1974. In 2024, Malaysia's total trade with Guinea-Bissau reached RM4.1 million, with Malaysian exports amounting to RM4.04 million and imports standing at RM0.06 million.
