Trump threatens to kill Khamenei if Americans targeted
by Naharnet Newsdesk 8 hours
U.S. President Donald Trump dramatically stepped up his rhetoric against Iran's supreme leader Tuesday, saying on social media that the United States knows where Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is located but will not kill him "for now."
In another post, Trump also appeared to demand Iran's "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!" as he fueled questions about whether the United States would join Israel's attacks on Tehran's leadership and nuclear facilities.
"We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there -- We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now," Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
"But we don't want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" said Trump.
Minutes later the U.S. president followed up with another message simply saying: "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!"
Trump flew back early from the G7 summit in Canada late Monday as the conflict between Iran and key U.S. ally Israel escalated, and was set to meet top officials in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday.
The U.S. president has so far stressed that his country is not getting involved in the conflict, and has said that Iran could still take a deal to end its nuclear program that he had proposed before Israel's attacks.
But Trump has given mounting signals that Washington's intervention in some form may now be imminent.
Trump said Tuesday that "we" have "complete and total control of the skies over Iran," hailing the use of U.S.-made weaponry without explicitly mentioning Israel.
Israel, the closest U.S. ally in the Middle East, had recently made a similar claim.
Earlier, Trump told reporters on Air Force One while returning from Canada that he wanted "a real end, not a ceasefire" to the Iran-Israel conflict, and warning that "I'm not in too much of a mood to negotiate."

Trump 'seriously considering' strike on Iran nuclear facilities
by Naharnet Newsdesk 17 June 2025, 23:06 U.S. President Donald Trump met with his national security team in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday to make decisions about U.S. policy towards the war between Israel and Iran, three U.S. officials told U.S. news portal Axios. The U.S. officials said Trump is seriously considering joining the war and launching a U.S. strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, especially its underground uranium enrichment facility in Fordow. Trump had returned early from the G7 summit to focus on Iran, telling reporters on Air Force One overnight that he wasn't interested in a "ceasefire" but a "real end" to the war and to Iran's nuclear program. The White House has discussed the idea of meeting directly with the Iranians this week, but Trump said that would "depend what happens when I get back" to Washington. Two Israeli officials told Axios that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli defense establishment continue to believe the Trump is likely to enter the war in the coming days to bomb Iran's underground enrichment facility. So far the U.S. has helped Israel defend itself from incoming missiles, but declined to take part in offensive operations. Amid growing signs that the U.S. could strike Iran, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance pushed back against criticism from prominent MAGA voices about Trump getting involved in the war. "The president has shown remarkable restraint in keeping our military's focus on protecting our troops and protecting our citizens," Vance wrote in a lengthy X post stressing Trump's consistency on the Iran nuclear issue. "He may decide he needs to take further action to end Iranian enrichment." Trump himself signaled his thinking in a series of belligerent posts on Truth Social ahead of the Situation Room meeting. "We now have complete and total control of the skies over Iran. Iran had good sky trackers and other defensive equipment, and plenty of it, but it doesn't compare to American made," Trump wrote. A few minutes later he warned Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei against targeting U.S. forces in the Middle East. "We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there - We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don't want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin," Trump wrote. In a third post in less than an hour Trump wrote: "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!"
